Caught on phone

what makes me laugh about the driver awareness course is the way the coppers try to make you feel grateful,i got caught doing 55 in a 50 mph limit, when I opted for the course I got a reply from then that they would offer me the course as they thought I could learn from it,up until I got caught I had [and still have thanks to the course]a clean licence, the last endorsement I had was when I was 19 yrs old [52 now]33 yrs on and they word it so I am supposed to be grateful to them, fair enough I got caught fair and square, but at the end of the day it costs a lot more for the course than accepting the fine and 3 points, loss of earnings for the day,the cost of the course and the fuel to get there, have to admit though it was enjoyable with tea and biccies thrown in and treated with respect, some people could not believe it when I told them hgv drivers can work up to 15 hrs a day on spreadover,a majority were suits at the course,it cost me but as I say an enjoyable day

well were you, I mean it could have cost you more and points not forgetting your insurance and the fact you could get pulled for something silly and pick u another 3 that would put you up to 6. don’t know if your S/E or what your works are like but when push comes to shove none is better than 1 let alone 3 or 6

See you did learn something …You educated others that we can work a 15hr day and it don’t have to be a spreadover
just saying

Think really depends on where you were caught as to their policy, up here in Scotland i dont believe they do awareness courses and the TC has stated or has done in the past would be a 10 day ban for being caught. Areas of England believe it depends on their chief constables on wither they offer you are course or points. Think depends as well if you already have points.

I got caught about 3 years ago was in the car though not the truck i got three points £60 fine, but nothing from the TC.

Bought yourself a £10 bluetooth headset yet?

I still cant understand why people risk the points and fine when the headsets are so cheap.

Same here mate. Specially if they drive a 60k car with all the extras included. So many cars and trucks got bluetooth and yet you see people with phones in hand.

Not sure what response your looking for, but try this :

and this :

That cinema thing is really good isn’t it!

The points given for a CU80 (As it’s worded now by the DVLA - Breach of requirements as to control of the vehicle, I.E.Mobile Phone etc) is 3 points. This can rise to 6 points if the Police officer thinks you were not also in proper control of the vehicle and reports you for driving without due care. The course may be offered to you but the Police officer can suggest to the review board that he thinks further education on the offence would be beneficial. They will tell you that prosecuting people all of the time does not solve the problem of people doing it and that is why they offer the course now before the points. I personally think you will be offered the course unless you have had this problem before within the last 5 years.

As for Bluetooth devices, you need to all be aware that this can also be deemed an offence under the above code. Just like drinking a drink, eating or doing your make up (obvioiusly the latter is a big problem amongst us truck drivers !)… The answer ? Get your companies to have factory fitted Bluetooth to your vehicle !

Unfortunately for you, you’ve posted on an open forum where anyone can voice their opinion and it’s not for you to say who can write what.
