Cheers for the photos carryfast-yeti. Brings back memories as my best friend as a 6 year old lived in the cottages just up from the yard, must have been about the time the place packed up. Always referred to it as Carryfast years after. My only photo is of the yard under a covering of snow a couple of years back

I used to drive for Carryfast in Dewsbury before they sold out to UPS. If i remember right Carryfast was the parcel side Green & White lorrys, Haulfast was the contracts & haulage side Blue & White lorrys. Martin Oldroyd only sold Carryfast to UPS at first it wasnt until a good few years later they bought Haulfast if memory serves me well! My dad worked there for nearly 20years on both sides i only did a few. If anyone remembers my dad “Chillo” or Pete Chilcott was his name.as far as i know Carryfast were always blue and white.i remember Mr.Kelly,who was foreman at Dewsbury.you could hear him shouting from the top of the hill at night!
Would that be Brian Kelly? I remember him from long long ago.
If it was, he started with Harrisons of Dewsbury, they were swallowed up by Carryfast (I think), still in the same )much expanded depot on Mill Street. I walk past most days.
I passed my driving test when I was a van lad at Harrisons, a little 1 ton Austin van it was (about 1957/8). Icy February day it was, passed my test, on the way back from the driving test centre I modified the front of the van, skidded and ran it into a wall. Hmn, that’s a good start.

Iv’e just had a butchers on that site Dave,see what you mean!!! CF could have a Nun swearing at him within a minute or two,no danger!! The bloke’s a one man war zone!
