HI .Carryfast just reading that you were looking for your old ATKI YRP /// S we bought one Y R P 7 0 S dont know were it came from but have a photo of it .COULD it be from the same batch. REGARDS .Barry WADDY
Hello Barry.i have drove YRP 70S .just found a photo when i was at a drop somewhere in Cheshire,if i remember rightly.will post the photo later.do you know where the truck ended up?
HI .Carryfast .We ran Y R P 70 S on genral haulage ,we used to run limestone dust down to South Wales for the N C B then over to Avonmouth and load pulp back up to North West .After the miners strike that ran into two years we lost seventy % of our work out pluss our return traffic .Alas we went under so all went to auction so think Y R P 70 S went to that big carpark in the SKY we uprated her to 32 tons and fitted a sleeper to her .Regards Barry Waddy
thanks for the info.on YRP 70S Barry.seems like none of the old Carryfast motors have survived unless anyone knows any different?

were they drivers Patrick? the Haulfast trampers used to overnight at our depot (North Kilworth),and i’d go for a drink with them up the local boozer, but struggling to remember any names at the mo.,apart from Old Jack
hi
yes, they were both trampers, both now retired, the last time i saw Dallas on the road, early 1990s, was at Argos RDC, Welling garden city driving an FL10, he wasn’t that impressed with it!! never had the pleasure myself, i always seemed to work for companies who ran DAFs
He did go into the transport/traffic side, not sure if it was at Haulfast or at UPS after the takeover and move from Dewsbury to Shaw cross…
I cant for the life in me remember Dallas’ brothers name but he did emigrate to Australia.
he came back a few years later and they started a drivers agency called ‘Brothers’ not very imaginative i know. don’t remember it lasting that long though.

I remember Dallas from Haulfast.
CF Yeti, you posted in a previous post that you didn’t remember Carryfast having white trucks. Don’t you remember the 3 Bedford tk’s & the ERF yard shunter that were painted white at North Kilworth depot ■■ Myself, Ian Morrisey & another chap (who’s name i can’t remember) drove the 3 white tk’s.

The change from blue to white took place relatively late and not long before the UPS takeover.I think Yeti said he might have left the firm before that point.

CF, I think the livery change started in the first part of '85. Nuneaton depot opened up for business in April '86 & all the new vehicles after that date were white with the green logo.
CF Yeti, I don’t have any picture’s of the white ERF (referred to as the White Elephant). Sadly i don’t have any pictures of the Carryfast vehicles i drove due to me mainly moving from one address to another. I’ve mislaid them over time, shame really
Could have been Donny. Defo a Scottish bloke that drove the other white TK.

From memory late 80’s would be about right. The first I saw of the change being our new 2800 ATI’s which I think were D reg then the new 7.5 tonners then trailers which took place over a gradual period. But I don’t remember any change in 1985 or early 86.But that White and Green did look impressive under the motorway lights.

CF, A couple of months after being transferred form North Kilworth to Nuneaton (middle to late '86) the new vehicles started to arrive. They were all rented from Fraiken rentals & were all white with the green logo. 4 Volvo FL7’s (C487 FKP-C491 FKP), 16 Leyland Roadrunners (C701 HUD-C716 HUD) & 4 13ton Leylands (C717 HUD-C720 HUD (if my memory serves me correct)). I know Dewsbury depot were still running Blue & Grey liveries untill late '88. Feltham Depot had a few Blue units as late on as '89.
I left Carryfast in April 1990.
the white vans have obviously slipped my mind,as i was at NK depot right up to the final, sad day March 1986.i was so unhappy,i parked my Daf unit up,dropped the keys in the garage, got in my car and drove off, without saying goodbye to anyone.
i think the Scots lad was Donny Cox…he was from Corby his mate was there with him, forgot his name! hey Geoffo…can you remember my mate,Cliff Barley? he was on the artic’s.

I was there also right upto the last day, but i lived in Nuneaton so obviously transferred. I still remember transferring the vehicles over to Nuneaton on the Saturday.

That might explain what I saw of the change.I was running to Bristol and sometimes Dewsbury from Feltham during 86 and 87 and you’re right we still had one or two of the old 2300 and 2500’s still running with the new 2800 ATI’s.We also had an F7 in blue that was transferred from Collumpton when it closed which luckily ended its days on the M25 in a cloud of steam and a blown engine. Unfortunately the old 1978 ex Haulfast 2800 which I’d been using before that running to Kilworth and sometimes Dewsbury was sold off at that point.
I hated driving those small DAF’s let alone the F7 compared to the 2800’s.Cheap and nasty heaps.
We also had a selection of a few long term hire wagons to finally replace the,by then knackered 2300/2500’s,which almost had as much oil in the water as in the sump
in the form of a Merc 1628 and then a Scania 112 from Ryder and then an MAN from Fraiken to go with the ATI’s.On that note it sounds like we were lucky compared to what they lumbered you with.

Yes the Bedford was miles better than the Roadrunner with it’s ‘blow-up’ seats & that’s saying something…
The FL7’s had the 240hp engine. We also had an MAN from Fraiken from time to time. The drivers used to beg to get a drive of it…
i remember we had one Ford Cargo unit at NK…dreadful motor IMO,but one driver loved it
