Carryfast

was one o the Scottish-■■■■■■■ night men not called "big ben"got a lift home back to Lockerbie one night when I jacked a job in (used to speak to him on nights on the 74).

A little true story re Carryfast/Haulfast?UPS…call em what you will.
In my later yearsI had a little (2 Transits) light haulage business. my sister in law drove one of them, she lives at Shaw Cross (opposite the industrial park) and late one dark winter evening, foggy as hell, she was coming out of Newport (Sth Wales) to come up home empty. Through the fog she spied a Carryfast motor. She stuck on his tail lights every mile of the way from Newport to Shaw Cross, pure luck that he was coming to Dewsbury. That Carryfast driver got a lady in distress home that night. I told her the following day she should pop across to the depot and have a word and pass her thanks on.

I always thought Carryfast were taken over by UPS ? in fact even over here you can still see Carryfast trailers being pulled by UPS

Can also remember the time when a trailer winding handle fell off in his hands. The zber blamed me for it because he thought that I was the last one who used the trailer and then decided that he’d take my head off with it.But he could’nt run as fast as me and he could’nt drive as fast as me either.

What a pity!!! If he’d caught you CF he’d have done us all a favour!! Bewick.

Mr Berwick, I read all your thread and had the utmost respect for your achievements, however what I don’t understand why you can never be civil to Carryfast, luckily he has thick skin and ignores most of your snide comments. I noticed also when he did respond you are not as good as taking it as you are at dishing it out!
I did work for Carryfast, then went onto UPS, I started as a driver and ended up as a Manager, I never met Carryfast as far as I know, so have no allegiance to him, my mum taught me, if you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything!!

You my friend have obviously got a “sense of humour blockage” and I would assure that not “if” but “when” I and “CF” do come across each other (and CF buys the first pint of course !) our conversation will be most amicable and further more I can take as much stick as “CF” or a US Army Mule, the problem being is some of the thin skinned ■■■■■■■ on TNUK can’t and they (and you) can’t understand our “crack” and “banter” which is most unfortunate from your point of view ! I would add that you aren’t the first to raise the same question and ,of course, get the same answer which I’m sure “CF” will concur ! If he doesn’t --well he can also “go forth and multiply” which I am sure he would with “gusto” !! Dear oh dear the PC brigade are creeping in every where :frowning: :frowning: :open_mouth:      Bewick. PS Oh and it’s spelt B-E-W-I-C-K

Hi Dennis, I agree with you my friend, Crack & Banter is what its all about, If anyone on TNUK Gets upset about what you & I say plus many others who reply to our comments, Must realise That everyone has their own oppinions of what they think & have experienced in the Haulage game over the years gone past & present, Im a old man now but still feel good Im just enjoying a MONKEY SHOULDER Three Malt Blended whiskey, Very nice too, Its the first time Ive savoured the flavour, So Im off to Morrisons the Morn to get some more, Regards Larry.

Hi Dennis, I agree with you my friend, Crack & Banter is what its all about,

To be fair he did say that he went into the office and trust me working in Carryfast’s offices was enough to make anyone lose their sense of humour. Our office at Feltham had a reputation for telephones getting chucked out of the window without warning still attached to their cables.Said office being on the top floor of a two story building. :open_mouth:

Sorry I clearly misunderstood! As for the spelling mistook, that was just Stoopid! It’s a first for me at nearly 60 to be ever have been labelled PC! That tickled me

I did some trunks from Feltham to Lewes it was one of the Carswells depots.

I’ve forgot many of the names but I do remember Tony I think it was Kersey who was known for the John Cleese type act of chucking the phones around. :open_mouth:   Although he might have died :frowning: before the Carswells takeover so you probably didn’t know him when you were at Feltham.AIthough I didn’t hear anything about any dodgy goings on. :open_mouth:

I thought you meant you were going to answer an invite down here in which case I was only going by the ESB or Youngs Special usual. But now I know that we’re only drinking that weak norvern stuff, you’re going to have to pay up for a change which will obviously be a bit of a shock to you lot. :smiling_imp:

Youngs special is a fine brew. I normally havery it with a bottle of ram rod. Makes a rather potent light and bitter

The dodgy goings on were after UPS had taken over, quite a few of the night shift were “at it” I only remember one name cos his dad was a famous Chelsea footballer, obviously not going to say it on here tho!
