Carryfast

cheers for that Carryfast.there were at least 14 depot’s in their hey-day,went to them all bar Dundee.

I did’nt know much about the Scottish depots when I started but Dundee depot was probably moved to the Glasgow area and it’s that one which we did a direct trunk with a bit later and I often did a changeover with their wagon between Haydock to Killington Lake depending how far they decided to run down the M6.I ran to a lot of the depots during my time starting with the 2 runs to Kilworth, also did two runs per shift to Bristol,Southampton and Bury St Edmunds,Dewsbury, few runs to Droitwich before it closed,Harrietsham, think there was one at Collumpton which was then moved to Heathfield, and some of those Carswells depots and then it was just mostly the modern ideas of running into the Nuneaton hub spend hours there and run back.Ironically, but luckily,I finished my time with the new firm doing the old Dewsbury run via Luton with a six wheeler rigid/drawbar outfit.

Did you know/remember any of the old Feltham drivers and shunter Ron,Eddy,Bob etc  .

Bewick:
Excellent!! the two “carryfasts” (with a bit o’luck) will keep running round in ever decreasing circles until they disappear up each others------ oops the mods are watching me very closely Stumm! Bewick.

I thought that was a fate only reserved for the Stobart lot. :open_mouth:

No I’m not you cretin! for your info Bewick Transport employed one of the finest workforces in the industry and there was never any need to be a “creeper”.Everyone was treated fairly by me and the management, who had all “done the job” prior to entering the Traffic office, unlike,by all accounts, modern day “traffic planners” who don’t know their "bums from their elbows"Anyway CF haven’t the Mods given you your own site yet? Bewick.

Blimey Bewick if they did’nt work at Bewick’s then they’re all ‘‘cretins’’ and ‘‘creepers’’ if you take that to it’s logical conclusion. :open_mouth: :laughing:But we did’nt generally need traffic planners on night trunking and did’nt often see many guvnors at that time because it was usually just a case of get on with it,get back, clock off,go home.

the only Feltham driver i remember is Sonny, the black lad,he was doing nights then.there was also a Cullompton night trunker who had to move upto Feltham because they reversed his run,and he was getting on a bit and was worried he wouldn’t get another job,his name was Bob i think.we used to do a Glasgow change-over at Tebay services,Glasgow and Dundee depot’s were the only Scottish ones.i remember Bristol was a tight little yard!

carryfast-yeti:
Carryfast, wasn’t that F7 red for some reason? if i remember rightly,on nights with the Gardners we would do a Dewsbury or Feltham run then one to Droitwich.we didn’t have any 2800’s based at Kilworth, but did borrow them off Haulfast on occasion.

It was Blue if you go onto the link transportphotos.com/road/photo and type in Carryfast there are some more photos of this truck on there in colour.

Sonny and Ron were both running to Dewsbury when I was doing the Kilworth runs.Sonny’s fate ended up in a long story that has to remain untold. :open_mouth: .The Cullompton driver was Eddy and he was using that old Volvo F7 on that job for a while. When he moved up to Feltham I had to be laid off and was then offered my job back a few months later when another driver left.We all later decided to put all the runs on a rota.Eddy died some years ago shortly after retiring.Bob was the shunter he retired a few years before I went. But if you think Bristol was tight you should have seen Luton when it was a case of reversing off the road through the gates onto the dock not enough room to turn in the yard even for artics let alone the drawbar outfit.

When Carryfast closed down and were later bought out, they became known as Context Express

thanks John.there was definitley a red unit at Feltham, and i think it was an auto.must have been a Daf,i’ll see if my mate can remember later.
Carryfast, sure you can’t tell me what happened to Sonny■■?

Bewick:
Excellent!! the two “carryfasts” (with a bit o’luck) will keep running round in ever decreasing circles until they disappear up each others------ oops the mods are watching me very closely Stumm! Bewick.

Hi Bewick,

It’s perfectly ok for somebody to write that they disappear up each others arses if they like.
:bulb: The auto censor is only set by the TN website owners to catch banned words, the rest are left alone.

The Mod/Admin team only edit posts from those posters who dodge the auto censor, whilst those other posters who type whatever they like without doctoring it with stars have not broken any rules.

General advice is that posters who take the ■■■■ and fail to follow that simple rule will probably end up on pre-moderation as per forum rule #3 on bad language, and because it creates extra work for the Mod/Admin team.

As can be seen above, the words ‘arse’ and ‘■■■■’ are not “caught” by the auto censor, but if I wrote that I don’t give a ■■■■ about something, then that word IS caught and it gets the ZB automatically.
I didn’t use stars or any other dodge, so I haven’t broken Rule #3.

:bulb: Using the ‘preview’ button is helpful.

so are you saying that its ok to swear as long as we spell it correctly and LET the auto censor catch it ?

i’m going to give it a try … ■■■■… ohh it works …

Absolutely no way can Sonny’s story be told here. :open_mouth:

I think the red unit that you’re referrring to might have been an old DAF shunter which was then got rid of and replaced by the old ERF.It was’nt an auto but it did have an automatic fifth wheel coupling release on it.

Yes it could just type zb instead of anything that might be considered by the public at large as in any way offenceive. :bulb:

Carryfast, your idea falls down because… it requires posters to make assumptions about which words may or may not be to the liking of the owners of the TN forums, whereas the forum rule doesn’t need any thought at all. :grimacing:

:bulb: You do have a way of complicating something which is really quite easy in the first place.

Type whatever word you like, then leave it… how difficult can that be?

simples…
