hello Geoffo.certainly remember Kev Preston,he was ops.manager, still got my reference from him! Steve Clarke rings a bell, but can’t remember the others.do you remember Bob Allen who was foreman at Kilworth? i was talking to him at his home up the road from the depot a couple of years ago.also remember Malc Richardson transport manager and drinking partner!
Yes I remember Bob Allen & Defo remember Malcolm Richardson.Malc also transfered to Nuneaton In '86 after NK closed down. Steve Clarke was NK sales rep that went on too become Nuneaton depot manager (■■!!). What about Steve Lee, remember him? He was from Bristol.
Carryfast, wasn’t that F7 red for some reason? if i remember rightly,on nights with the Gardners we would do a Dewsbury or Feltham run then one to Droitwich.we didn’t have any 2800’s based at Kilworth, but did borrow them off Haulfast on occasion.

can’t remember Steve Lee,Geoffo.Peter Graham was top man at Kilworth early on,then an Irish lad,Pat ? can’t remember his surname at present.
Every photo or mention of registrations I have seen are from Northampton. All our United Carriers vehicles had the same registrations, our main offices were in Irthlingborough / Wellingborough.
Carryfast had offices at Corby,Wheel Nut.i thought YRP was a Bristol reg.though? talking of United Carriers,i know a bloke who drove for them at Leicester until they packed up.

According to the photo it was used from 1982 but I only started in 1985 so I would’nt have known how it was painted before then but when I knew it it was in the usual blue.It was absolutely gutless if it’s that one I knew and it was a case of good riddance when it blew up .I’d stopped it and told the breakdown service it was overheating (probably head gasket gone). The night manager told them to tell me to get it back to the depot as long as it’ll run. Which is exactly what I did but it did’nt run long enough to make it back.
That’s where Feltham got it’s 2800 from.FNH 958 T was the one Feltham had and that really was like driving a Rolls compared to the 2300’s/2500’s there at the time until they got the 2800 ATI’s.

Where was Carryfast based at, head office I mean?

NV
RP
etc
I think most of them were registered in Dewsbury NH or JX (unless that’s Northampton reg but did’nt know of any office in Northampton ) until Feltham,at least, went over to outside leased wagons.

I think we should give carryfast yeti a chance I mean 24 hours in and we stil havnt heard a peep about two stroke Bedfords or kenworth road trains
No TM 3800’s or 4400’s there unfortunately. But you would’nt have had many complaints from anyone doing double runs on job and finish if they’d been given a 4400 to pull two trailers at once.

Carryfast & Haulfast (sister company) had an office In Nuneaton from '82 onwards, a good 4 years before the depot was opened there. This was the head office although the company owner came from the Dewsbury area…

Think we had a BJX 472Y and another one which I can’t remember also had 2300’S VJX 530/1X if I remember right.
After the 2800 ATI’s went we then went on to a mixture of different types ranging from Scania 93’s to Volvo FL10’S amongst others.

The name Peter Graham rings a bell & yes there was an Irish guy in charge when NK was shut down. At least you remembered his first name,i couldn’t remember his name at all…

Before it was called carryfast i think it was Harrisons of Dewsbury.
yes, that’s right.Martin Oldroyd (who married Mr.Harrison’s daughter) + 3 others,if i remember correctly, bought Carryfast out of the Lever Bros.group to become independant.Martin at that time had the registration GMO 1 (his initials) on his car.

I can fill in some of the rest of what came after. After the closure of some of the old Carryfast depots like Kilworth and Droitwich they then bought out Carswells which created more depots like Gloucester,North Rode, and East Hoathly in Sussex and then gradually changed to a more hub based trunking system rather than direct depot to depot links. Then Carryfast was sold by the owners to UPS shortly after Seabourne Express was bought by them which formed the foundations of the UPS ground based network in the UK and Europe although there were still a few direct inter depot trunks left after that time.
Excellent!! the two “carryfasts” (with a bit o’luck) will keep running round in ever decreasing circles until they disappear up each others------ oops the mods are watching me very closely Stumm! Bewick.
