i did the granite worktops and its only good money if you put the hours in or own the company. However a lad trained up in fitting them went self employed as a fitter and charges around £300 a job now. Some days he doing 2 jobs a day. Has a nice motor and house now anyway

When i left school i got a job as a Panel Beater and did it for 6 years but i knew i didnt want to do it the rest of my life so i quit and got my HGV licence…im glad i did !! :open_mouth:

Hated every day of my schooling, and the last day was one of the happiest of my life. Served a 4yr apprenticeship as a “light vehicle technician” (car mechanic). Worked in the trade for ten years for Volvo and Mazda dealerships.
Became a dad, then put myself through technical college and got my city and guilds in carpentry/joinery. Went self-employed and worked on new build projects, then shopfitting/pub refurbs etc. That swallowed up another 24yrs.
Fancied a change after kids had grown up (kind of) and split with the missus. Recently put myself through class2 and now class1.
All jobs have days that ■■■■, but largely enjoying my latest direction. Like a lot of us, it seems, have never really found my perfect job, but mustn`t grumble, all things considered!
Had the usual sprinkling of ■■■■■ “infill” temporary jobs not worth mentioning.

I did indeed but I left not to long after to ‘persue other avenues’ :unamused:

With a handle like booty could some assume your ex RM by any chance?

Loads of education and degree.
Sales Management roles selling to the Big Supermarkets.
Redundency.
Financial Advisor - Didn’t last long.
Director of own business - pubs and hotels.

Driving trucks 7.5t to C and now the holy grail of C+E. All agency through Ltd company. 2.5 years in. Not all a bed of roses some good some bad but no worse than anything else i’ve done and a lot lower stress. Only thing that consistantly winds me up is agents, struggling to accept them as a necessary evil… But don’t want to pay more tax to be tied to fixed shifts so just have to put up with them.

Having read on a previous post, that someone was going back to being a paramedic & I used to be a mental health nurse, was just wondering what careers people had before becoming truck drivers ?& do you any regrets leaving that career for truck driving.

Personally I have zero regrets about leaving nursing as I always wanted to be a truck driver, clearly wired up wrong ! (Self diagnosis)

You are in the right Job where you can use your previous gained knowledge.
on the other hand,i worked a few dekades as HGV Mechanic and not allowed to swap a Bulb

18 years running supermarkets. 6 years running an ice cream factory. Redundancy, so I chucked a couple of grand at doing the job I wanted to do since I was about 8.

Might make that 2k back one day
