Car insurance for trampers

£11 a month seems quite steep to only cover while the car is parked up (with significantly more to pay if you actually want to drive the thing). But then again, as an Olde Farte motor insurance is pretty cheap for me anyway.

Good grief, I thought we’d finally got over the ‘It’s not for everyone’ back at page 1! :unamused:

It would be easier to upload part 2 of the new vlog ,than deal with this lot brother Luke :grimacing:

I’m just gonna…

Disagree with it because I don’t like the colour scheme on the app.

Sort that out Luke baby!

Maybe my point was missed (or poorly made, more like). If your car is simply parked up while you are away in the truck the risk is broadly the same whether you are a 17 year old with an atrocious driving/conviction history living in a ■■■■■■ city centre or a 70 year old who has never had an accident and lives out in the sticks. Either way, £11 a month just to cover the small chance of the thing being nicked, crashed into, vandalised or spontaneously bursting into flames seems a bit steep to me when the significant risks only arise when the car is actually driven.

Then again, the whole insurance market (be it motor or home/contents) seems to operate in a parallel universe anyway, where new customers are “won” from the competition with costs being paid for by the unwitting loyal customer base. I daresay this scheme is just a different way of distributing these costs.

Calling £11 ‘a bit steep’ is slightly hilarious.

Its 11 per 4 weeks, not a month. So 13 payments not 12.

I sent an email asking about leaving it at another location and that is “not ok” it is “required that it spends most days at your residential address”

I would suggest you look into it Luke as if you are leaving your car at work I would say that it is uninsured.

For what its worth, to borrow a friends car or a second summer car in the garage most of the year its probably ideal but for the use Luke has described useless

Just like any other insurance then. How many of you trampers tell your insurance company where your car is parked 80/90% of time? I never have and I’ve had jobs where my car has been left on the street while I’m away. I did try once when I was a coach driver for a London company but the insurance cost went up about three times the original cost, after being refused by most companies

I’m with Cornmarket Luke and informed them from day one that my car is parked in the works car park 4/5 nights a week, the other times it is on my drive. No difference to my premium tbh.

Given you have admitted earlier that you have a patch record of car ownership you are also as likely to have limited dealings with insurance.

Most companies ask where is parked when not in use and some may ask where parked in the day. Mine asks where parked when “not in use” at home. When its in the work car park its there because its “in use” namely driven me to work and waiting to drive me home.

However the whole idea of this insurance is you only pay when you wish to “use” the vehicle means its falls down when its not at home and its not insured for that day. They are viewing it that if its not at home its “in use” and should be paying the extra day rate.

To be clear Luke I don’t know you and have no issue’s with you personally. However I do not think its right that you make a post recommending a product to others that may leave them exposed to being uninsured/out of pocket if something happens to their vehicle while it is at work. I think thats the point the others have been trying to raise as well

As it happens Currva will insure you for car being parked at work most of time but it has to be in same postal area as home. Which isn’t the case for me. I’ve not worked close to home since I was 21!

Currva? That’s a word a lot of our Polish drivers use

Yeah I didn’t bank on so many trucknet users having such dull lives theyll spend time off at weekends emailing insurance companies they never intend to use trying to shoot down someone posts. So many of you lads waste so much time on threads and posts that don’t concern them & then moan about how much you work. Is this really how you relax? Have you ever thought of applying for a job on BBCs Watchdog? I’m recommending something to grown adults, this isn’t a child’s site, they can make their own judgements on what works for them without your input generally  Have a lovely Sunday

Who said I never intended to use it?

I have an uninsured second car sat on my drive (sorn) because it doesn’t get used so was looking at this as a possibility for a bit of use. Seeing as my girlfriend was out with her friends and I was home watching the snooker I decided to spend 5 minutes sending an email as looking at their website it wasn’t clear.

I asked you twice for details as I believed you were misrepresenting it (including stating you had no involvement but you could get paid for code being used).

I don’t disagree this isn’t child safe and we are all adults but you are a well regarded and senior member on here and recommending a product that doesn’t do as described by yourself is pretty poor.

Lets also remember that a large number of us on here drive for a living and if found to be using a vehicle without valid insurance could put people’s jobs at risk I’ll say something.

Edit, nice Sunday to you also

Now out comes the mock courtroom language! Yup, I could have made all of £10 with that code, so close to becoming Trucknets resident billionaire but it wasn’t to be. In the interests of fair representation anyone who’s used the app once can send a discount code and make a £10.

Also ‘senior member’ is nonsense. It just means you’ve made 25 posts. No one is going to go and spend money on something just because I said so

Not me. At work it’s in a camera covered, secured yard where there will be someone around probably 20 hours of the day, its not going to get stolen and any bashes will be sorted without bringing insurance in to it. As far as the insurance is concerned it lives in my garage in my ‘good’ area.

For what it’s worth this type of insurance you’ve brought up isn’t for me but thanks for bringing it to my attention as my current loony machine is planned to be a second/summer car soon so this could be something I’ll use in future.

Whats mock courtroom about that? I think its quite clear you have.

I don’t care if you get paid or not. I just don’t think its right people are not clear about things like this. You recommend product on your YouTube page but are very clear about what you are doing.

I didn’t mean senior member in post count. I meant people like you, harry monk, tacograph, juddian, robroy and loads of others that I have missed who dispense good advice and knowledge based on their experience. Not that it says senior under your name

Get a grip, he’s let people know about a different way of insuring their cars, not signed them up for a 5 year deal they didn’t want. :unamused:
