Bye bye stupid speed limits

I used to drive a 12 tonner (mainly) before I got my job on artics. I drove that thing everywhere on the limiter except past speed cameras. Took me a while before I realised that I wasn’t “Star Driver” and I was actually the only knob putting my licence at risk, tipping on break etc, to get the job done and get back… Only to be given an equally crap run the following day.

Yes I had the newest, biggest, bestest and fastest motor on the yard. But I was earning way less than the “Hang the job out” boys.
.

Yeh that is exactly how it is mate :bulb: , but most are to dumb assed to see it, and the boss won’t say anything as he is quids in and the driver takes all the risks so he wins both ways.

The other thing is you say about the ‘hang the job out boys’ You say it as if it is the only other option, and is used often by a lot on here to justify being a ’ tear my arse off ’ type of prick. (not including you in that)
It does not need to be an either/or situation, as there is another and better option than the other 2, that is do the job at a steady safe and legal pace, that aint hanging it out, it’s doing it properly and professionally… a concept evidently hard to grasp by a lot on here.

I freely admit that in hindsight I was “that prick”

I’m out now, thank The Lord. Don’t miss it one bit.

And some of the brain dead hauliers have cut their fleets to 52mph!!!

Limited to 53 here. Its painful.

I’m finding I’m using cruise control less now. When the limit was 40, I’d set it anywhere 40-45 depending on road conditions etc. Now I use the throttle limiter set to 50 as has been said already, many roads aren’t suitable. To the driver trainers out there, it makes no difference in mpg figures, and 56 is pretty much the same as 52 aswell.
Only lentil munching Greenpeace yoghurt knitters and their window licking special needs friends at Brake would argue.

Some folk on A17 (A52- kings lynn) still doing 40 this morning. Was gutted as wanted to try get a speed camera to flash, unless they aren’t set up for trucks down that stretch… Anybody know if the camera at bottom of the dual bit on A52 out of Grantham, towards Bingham has been changed? Seen a few flashed by that before the increase in limit.

Totally agree, except Friday afternoons, then it’s ‘Take No Prisoners Day’ lol.

Totally discrimination that is… :open_mouth:

whatif your on a rota and your last day ends on different days :grimacing:

Reasons Transport haven’t heard, I followed one along the A40 doing a generous 35mph. Then again judging from the amount of dented doors and crumpled bumpers on some of their rigids maybe 35 is all they should be allowed to do?

Ok, fair kop Nick-Friday Afternoons should read-The afternoon before your weekly rest/PUB NIGHT !

This increase was either poorly publicised, incompetent TMs who’ve not told their drivers, or the “hang the job outs” are showing themselves. I’ve seen another two 38 at a push (not supermarket wagons either) this morning.

Muckaway:
This increase was either poorly publicised,

Apart from on here I have not seen it publicised anywhere! That also includes any new legislations that come upon us, it is only people on forums and those who dredge .gov websites that let us know.

Very poor if you ask me. It should have been headline news and even mentioned on the Jeremy Vine jobby.

It seems more publicised in Scotland than England and they arent affected ! All the way down the 74 since the start of April they have been advising of the new speed limits in England and Wales on the big overhead message boards

It’s kinda weird you say that my depot is in scotland and there is a massive poster on the office wall about the change in speed limit in England, but on a trunk to Warrington yesturday no poster to be seen in their office.

Perhaps it’s not such a bad thing that it hasn’t made the headlines. With that awful crash in Bath still in the public’s mind, the last thing we want is a storm of protest being whipped up; isn’t it much better that we can just get on with our jobs now without being hassled for holding traffic up?

+1

I went to both Culina and DHL last week and both had notices up in their drivers office about the speed lomit increases. Our place has nothing. It also seems that others haven’t been told. I saw a big line of traffic following a wagon on the A15 on my home from work yesterday.

trubster:
Got off lightly compared to this clown.

What made it worse was that he did it not once, but twice, the second time just over an hour later. As you can see, there’s now a young lady in the passenger seat.

I seem to recall he did get a driving ban.

I think it is a stupid thing to have done, let me see you can now do 50 mph so I see the only result will be tighter schedules, the we can do 50 now and were going to do it brigade will be flying around like idiots and it will soon be well I was only doing 55 gov .I will bet no driver gets a fair increase in their wage for the extra productivity, and if 50 is ok on A roads why only 56 on m/way does it make sense ,I think things were ok as they were the majority went over 40 mph but most will have been extra vigilant both to avoid accidents and the law.

Racing about, shaving 30 secs off your daily drive time

vs restacking a pallet for 20 mins :stuck_out_tongue:

Apart from supermarket trucks who sits at 40mph and now it will be who sits at 50mph.
Peddle to the metal
