Bye bye stupid speed limits

I feel sad for those that like to hang the job out by sitting at 39 mph, they’re going to need some new excuses for taking their time now. Although I do find it odd that, while those drivers that don’t want to break the 40 mph speed limit on SC, don’t mind giving it a full gas 56 mph when they get on a DC.

I see this every day on the A17, Turners of Soham and Roger Warnes and Moy Park are 3 of the biggest culprits, amongst many many others, 39mph Kings Lynn to Sleaford, then onto the bypass, straight up to 56mph. Over the ■■■■■, back down to 39.

Turners and Roger Warnes hanging the job out? :open_mouth:

I always thought Turners were flat to the mat day rate cabbages?

…and I’ve seen a Roger Warnes driver get banned for doing 56mph inside Drax power station.

So many muppets in one place you could make a show…
Not sure who would be the star but it has to be a close call between “Chester- break the law only at my convenience or you must be new to the job-1” or “Burnley-I have been running bent for 25 years aren’t I the best steering wheel attendant in the world-Si”…
Yeah yeah, jump to the defense kids, nothing big or clever about your hero driving, a bit boring to be fair. I am sure that you save plenty of time up to the point where you hit the traffics jam.
I expect the usual response, but here’s the thing… No one cares if you drive at 56 on 40, you might, but others just think you’re a bit special, as in “short bus” special because you don’t get how to drive, not steer, drive…
I do 40, I get no pressure about deadlines, no grief if a drop doesn’t get done, I never get stuck on a night out, take home a very good salary and never get stressed. So carry on with your 56 lads and look on the bright side… As I will be doing 50 you will only be held up for a little less time until you get to your delayed 4 hours RDC drop or the motorway closure…think about it as an extra few minutes for that great big penny to drop…
This thread is almost as entertaining as Northern Ireland one that went down to religion and some idiot who googled an entire military career to prove a point, I’ve been on here for many years but only recently has the level of muppetry made it worthwhile.
Keep it up chaps and give it your best shot…blah blah blah…

Looks like the thought have having to drive a bit faster without the fallback of ‘40 is the limit’ is causing a bit of stress and anxiety for some.

When I drove for Tesco I got load of crap from others because I would drive down the A420 at 39 mph, I get just as much crap now driving up VT 22A with a tanker full of liquid, unlike most American truck drivers I don’t get paid by the mile and don’t have to break the paw to make a good living.

OFFICIAL … Tosco drivers have been advised not to travel in excess of 39mph, as the air will be sucked out of their lungs if travelling at speeds over 40mph.

Well I for one will be pleased to see the end of the 39mph rolling roadblocks on many A roads, that ultimately cause endless frustration for other road users.

Problem is, with that attitude it still won’t be fast enough.

I think the fact that some of these slow drivers look in their mirrors, see a vast swathe of cars behind them and don’t have the common courtesy to pull over and let folks pass is the REAL problem. That doesn’t JUST apply to truck drivers of course, but unfortunately it is trucks that have had the low legal limit applied to them all these years, even though trucks have actually been travelling at higher speeds for years of course.

It’s more the Turners depots based up the A17, and there are quite a few of those.
Something must have happened with Warnes, as they seemed to slow down overnight on the A17.
On the A47 Kings Lynn to Norwich they seem to go faster.
Moy Park have got something along the lines of “Warning this vehicle is limited to 40MPH on single carriageways” written on the back of their trailers. I look forward to seeing them getting adjusted next week.

When I go down the hill on the A52 just off the A1 on Tuesday morning I wonder if I’ll set that camera off? I’ve seen little or no evidence of anyone adjusting these cameras and I can’t imagine that the operators will be paying Bank Holiday rates just to change them tommorrow. Not that it’ll matter though as it’ll not longer be an offence.

I was wondering this about the speed cameras also.
Wonder if they can all be set remotely or if some bright spark may consider doing them slowly to see how this changes happen, sure there will be times we trigger one that hasn’t been set to 50 and have to think for a moment if we are definately in a NSL section, much to the amusement of cars behind when it becomes a veritable double flash from every camera we pass.

Wonder if there will be videos on boobtube showing trucks setting of speed cameras as the car driver with the camera will be unaware we can crack on a bit more comfortably.

All that will change for me is that I no longer have to monitor my speed so closeley and will let her creep up to 50 (well 48) when its safe to do so, just like in the old days before speed cameras.
I anticipate more trucks up me chuff wanting to be on the limiter though and road speeds not so different as there will still be some drivers unaware of the changes. I was at DHL the other day and having a nosey at the notice board saw a memo about the speed increase on SC’s & DC’s.

One concern i have is that your average nimby joining from the side road onto a single NSL carriageway will not be able to judge the speed of the approaching truck so well as all the times they have in the past hasn’t been an issue to tootle along at 45, but now with a hero approaching rapidly (knowing they can go 50ish) its a recipe for disaster.

Don’t believe the press has given any attention to this matter so we may be in for a little bit of fun on Monday.

Glad I don’t start till Tues then, firm doesnt believe in working bank hols!

Still be a normal day in, too much fuss over nothing spectacular. Nothing to see, move on( albeit a tad faster[emoji4])

Does anyone know if they have changed the STGO speed limits…hope they haven’t.

And common sense has been mantained for once.

All these fellow drivers saying thank zb we won’t have a 40 mph rolling roadblock…

If I want to do 40 on a SC there is sod all you can do about it. I can see more frustration from the flat to the mat hero’s when they are stuck behind a 48mph lorry and they want to be doing 55

The same applies to car drivers, do you jump up and down and start stamping your feet when Doris and Boris in the micra are doing 35 on a SC?

Now you KNOW it far easier to shoot past a Micra you can see around, rather than Larry Lardarse trundling along in a truck.

I welcome the new limit, but I can’t help but think in the not so distant future there will be an argument beginning “Cars are much safer now than they were in the 1960’s” and the SC car limit will be upped to 70mph. Then we will have gone full circle and will just be complaining again.

Another thing, there are many sections of A road that cannot withstand 50mph trucks, and many don’t have the common sense to knock the speed back a bit.

+1
If it goes as planned it will be a return to the old days (pre-cameras and excitable young plod) where the only speed limit was common sense, OMG what am I saying its going to be chaos.

I thought it was 70 for cars on an A road now.

I fully agree with your second point about the ‘speed target and beyond’ knob heads …of which there are many.

The only thing which concerns me is will the 40 mph brigade be able to handle the speed increase? Maybe there should have been some additional training made available because as said the increase does seem to have effected some on here quite badly

Does anyone actually know what Tescos are going to do? Something tells me 46ish (fast enough for many A roads around here) but I’ve a suspicion they’ll be all self righteous and carry on “Taking your safety seriously” at 40mph and force their drivers to do it.

It’ll be interesting to know how many get caught still pushing the boundary,

I also wonder if they’ll be as lenient the tolerance given

but that’s the current legal LIMIT so I don’t know how YOU can justify your idiotic remark :unamused:
