That’s another CV sent off
Give me an SLR or an AK47
the m16 is good, only 7.5 kilos. the SA80 mark 2 actually works now, but it’s 15 kilos.
soon we will get some chinese weapons, they are plastic, and fire ■■■■■■.
'kin ell! - I can’t say I fancy hefting a TV set at the enemy, even if the next war is against South rather than North Korea

I think you will find that the SA80 weighs about 5 kilo’s and the M16 about 4. Weapon of choice at the moment for the troops is the 7.62 sharpshooter

They do issue them to reservist drivers when on ops.
I’ll take your word for it. They don’t give 'em to the guys hauling around Afghan and Iraq though, just when they’re on ops? Plenty of great vids about KBR and the whole set up on you tube, i’d suggest anyone interested go watch them. Personally i’m not sure which is safest, driving past a load of yanks with guns or the Taliban !!!
I can definately tell you that you will get a gun and you will be trained to use it, as part of the contract is to be a member of the reserve forces then to qualify for your tax free bounty every year you must be able to pass 2 weapon handling tests (WHT) and an annual personal weapons test (APWT).
I knew of 1 lad who worked for fastrack and when he wasn’t down in catterick with them, then he was waiting for a call from an agency up here that he was farmed out to and i can tell you that he didn’t get many phone calls from them.

Reservists and kbr are 2 tottally different things. when a reservist goes to afghan etc they are then a part of the regular army and are treated as such. KBR are civilian contractors who MAY have been ex military.

But was he still getting paid whilst waiting for the phone call?

Yes but to be on that KBR contract youhave to become a ‘sponsored reservist’, it says so in the advert.
But KBR tell you that too…ftxlog.com/ftx-logistics-ltd/
The only time them drivers will carry a gun is when they are sent into a ‘combat zone’. I don’t think we’ve got any of them now? But yes, they’ll be trained how to use them.
Basically then…you get trained up on the tank transporters, if there is no work available driving them you will be driving for an agency ‘The Best Connection’…knowing what agency work is like at the moment…I’m out!
The sponsored reservist is different to a kbr employee. The sponsored reservist is as said before, a reservist, TA, proper army, albeit sponsored by a civilian company. KBR also employ many other people (including drivers) who have no link to the military. They are civilian employees who may be (and probably are) ex military.

I’m sure we had a member on here who was on this job.
There’s two i can remember, Neil46 i think and another one called Stuh, although whether they where on that same contract i’m not sure. But Stuh did post recently and say the Iraqi police where arresting some putting them in prison and taking their vehicles, so i’ll guess no gun !! Luckily (or not) they were real police, i don;t think that old trick we do of putting a card up in the window saying “i’ll follow you to the nearest police station i have a valuable cargo” holds much sway out there !!
I came across these lads in Iraq in 2004.
Then they were serving alongside regulars in RLC Units.
As I understood it by talking to them you effectivly join the T.A. for the duration.
You pass your annual tests like any other soldier (T.A. and Reg)
When it comes to deployment you’re called up like any other T.A. soldier.
You report and complte pre deployment training (fitness tests, medicals, firing ranges etc)
You then slot into a regular unit which is deploying.
You complete pre tour training,The tour and post operational tour leave (POTL) this from call up to leave ending is normally about 12 months.
You will be entitled to the tour bonus’ and the medal like everyother soldier(IIRC you are actually sworn into the Regs at Chillwell)
I’m not sure about the agency bit as these lads actually served on tank transporter Sqns.
The lads posting about KBR in Iraq are on a different contract and aren’t serving in the U.S. Army just subbying for it.
KBR form the convoys and the miltary ■■■■■■ them - however as youtube show once the shooting starts the Army have enough to do without chasing after drivers
The way they are doing it here is better at least you get a weapon and are in proper Army convoys so you can protect yourself.
Two Last points.
There was a good programme on ITV a while back showing the RLC in Afghanistan there were reservists on that - worth a watch.
This situation was created in the late 90’s
I was demobbed under options for change.
It decimated the transport Sqns as some bright spark came up with the idea that anyone could drive HGV’s.
For instance my brother worked on Chinooks they made a number of drivers redundent and gave him a HGV license.
He was fine pottering about camp and short runs to keep his hand in.
But his job required him to be in the Chinook when it deployed.
So when the went anywhere the four tonner sat there and he sat with his feet up in the helicopter.
Meanwhile back at camp they’re desperatly trying to find drivers.
Like wise when I deployed in 2004 we barely had enough drivers to cover.
We would litteraly out all day running between vehicles to cover.

The title of this post is misleading…British Army Looking for drivers…
They’re not, a civilian contractor is. Halliburton or KBR. They require you to be a sponsored reservist, here’s the best bit for everyone who thinks they’re getting a gun…
In accordance with the law of armed conflict and to maintain non-combatant status, Halliburton does not arm its truck drivers.

Correct, Halliburton does not arm its truck drivers. They are Civilians in civilian clothes driving civilian (sometimes military) vehicles. A sponsored reservist is as has just been stated and will be armed!
I heard the other day that Halliburton don’t even exist anymore, I may be wrong though.

Jesus christ !!! Haliburton doesn’t exist? Go way!! Even google will tell you it does, anyway, they sold their logistics arm (KBR). Just believe me, them drivers do not carry guns. I know this and i havn’t been to Afghan /Iraq, nor have i been in the Army. They are sponsored reservists working for private companies as HGV drivers, i’m not sure which part of that is hard to understand.

I understand perfectly how it works as I know and have served with enough of them! I think it is you who is struggling to understand! You are right in 1 thing though in that halliburton does indeed exist and sold off that part off KBR who have since gone on to lose the contract.
