 I thought the ad was funny too when it says nationwide (excluding Scotland, Wales and Ireland) - So they mean England then

Does the Army care about your DVLA Points?
They could send you to Middle East till DVLA clears your License

Hang on a minute. They want,

a number of experienced ex-military (Royal Navy, Royal Air Force (RAF) or British Army) HGV 1 Drivers

but you must have

civilian commercial HGV1 articulated driving experience.

Is just having military driving experience not good enough for the military?

Is being a former SAS member a requirement, they should probably advertise with Eurotunnel

So are you working for the army or a civilian company awful lot of bull[zb] to get through in the advert.

There is a lot of bullcrap in the advert because, and a well known phrase-Bullcrap baffles brains.

Looking at it and considering you will be taking a bounty and all other TA perks, you are pretty much becoming a TA bod.
Which is why they can “uplift” you to operational duty.Which would probably be to somewhere hot and dusty full of people that want to kill you.Not worth going back to a life like that imho.

This is for Fasttrax (KBR), driving the Oshkosh HET (Tank Transporter). Great postings available: Bulford or Fallingbostel (Germany)… :-/

I thought the TA had an upper age limit? 37 or was it 42, anyways, I’m too much of a blob for doing that kind of bollox again.

Something the military has always been short of, HGV drivers and C+E drivers especially, the last campaign (excuse the pun) that advertised like this was when the new Tank Transporters came out and it pretty much meant being similar to a member of the TA, civvie firms have been doing a lot of the movements of heavier armoured vehicles and maybe the MOD wants to reduce this. Now if the ad says nationwide (apart from the countries already removed) then its basically in England and you won’t go anywhere else, otherwise you could presumably sue if they tried to send you off to anywhere less agreeable, mind you England isn’t that serine at the moment!

I used to be a Reservist along with many other ex squaddies and got called once a year (voluntarily)to go on excercise with other regular units, this was stopped during the early Ninties for a re-vamp but it seemed to die a death and we never heard any more about it. If the MOD had screwed their loaf they could have had many ex squaddies that would be willing to be on a HGV voluntary call up when the requirement came about for use in this country as well as others without having to rely on over stretched TA and Regular units. Maybe someone might know what the real intention of this advert is. Franky.

Ahh, just read the advert fully, scrub what I said about being sent anywhere, its like being asked after training what unit you want to go to then sending you off to the one that’s up to its neck in muck n bullets and which you purposely left off the list!

They are not going to offer £46k on target earnings for running around Dagenham now are they :unamused:

In november i got a call from an agency asking me did i want full time hgv work with the mod working out or notholt cant rememeber what money was offered but it was good.

When i asked what exactly i would be doing they were nt sure and said they couldnt give out any more info but if i wanted it start monday and would be told all then.

Thought it a bit strange so refused.

Same week another agency offered me full time with some other company but i had to go through an umbrella company asked what they charged a week i was told phone them.

Phoned the umbrella company and asked what they would charge me every week they said it depends on your wages i say ok my wages are 600 a week now how much they reply we cant give out that information and hung up!!!
Phone back agency told them what happened they say sorry u have to go through umbrella company so i decline that job as well.

When they say comprehensive medical and physically fit…exactly how fit?

I’m overweight, have high blood pressure (although very well controlled by tablets for yrs now), occasional IBS and an under-active thyroid. But i still manage to referee 2 or more football matches a week, often 2 in the same day! And i do actually get outside of the centre circle…pretty much get all over the pitch, but do struggle keeping up with the U18’s…i’m 42!

But to look at me, you wouldn’t immediately think “fit” .

i`m just fat around the middle…nowhere else, just the middle

‘On target earnings…’!! ■■

Think about it…
