bridge strikes

Most bridge strikes would be avoided if vehicles were no more than 4.0m high on UK roads…!

why cant the driver just 1.read the signs and 2.know the height of their trailer for [zb] sake, common sense springs to mind here :unamused:

It could be anything, poor road signs, stress of the job, momentary lapse of concentration, you know how it is. I just think if you can limit length of the vehicle then you should limit the height too…

Height is limited, hence motorway bridges are a set height.

Limit should be lowered, avoid striking bridges off the motorway, simples

Their used to be a waste paper/plastic place near belvedere east London. The road leading up to it had no warning signs, just before you got to the plant there it was a 10’ bridge. I stopped walked up to the plant and asked for a safe route in, the guy said that’s the only way in mate! What had happened the local council had dug under the bridge to get high siders under, which must have cost thousands, but forgot to correct the sign!

What?, you mean actually be a lorry driver, sod me that’ll never do.

No, instead we should lower the heights of the trucks so the idiots can’t hit bridges, then halve that height again so they can’t tip 'em over, then put heaters in the road so the little darlings won’t slide into each other in the wet and ice.

Then we’ll pay 'em £15 an hour plus overtime for the true professionals they are…Jesus wept its above the sods to measure the bloody truck and look where they’re going.

Christ on a bike i wouldn’t pay 'em in bloody shirt buttons, useless.

Just like the bridges in grantham they have painted luminous green with big letters saying .LOW BRIDGE AHEAD - MUPPET!!!

they even have big neon arrow signs pointing at the bridge saying LOW BRIDGE yet they still hit it!

@ ‘juddian’ err I’ll have £20/hr+overtime for being such a plum…lol

Fallmonk:
With all they hits (plus probably more not photoed) would it not be worth tha RAILWAYS putting a hight bar before they got to the bridge ? so all they do is hit that and set of lights maybe raise bollards / railway style gates close over ■■?
A lot cheaper than bridge repairs / roads clossed ?

You mean like this one?

We’d certainly have far better looking trucks if that were the case instead of the many hideous ungainly looking efforts on the road now!

True, there’s a lot if ugly looking kit out there, we could learn a lot from continental motors…

I’m sure the stalkers one was a couple of years back, apparently they had re layed the road and forgot to change height.

I’d best not ask Karen or Hughie what happened then ■■?

i went under it yesterday and it flashed me up. im 13.3.

and another 15’ 11’’ wont go under 15’ dohhttp://www.southwalesargus.co.uk/new … ay_bridge/

try this: southwalesargus.co.uk/news/g … ay_bridge/

From the local rag - its says the bridge is 13ft high.

Why don’t they string those dangly line things just before the bridge, but must admit i would love to know how he hit the tree.

It has gone the opposite when the council has resuraced under a bridge and built it up to much… and not changed the sign… crunch

Why dose going at 30 mph make the trailer lower than going at 40 mph.Signs should be made bigger :bulb: .

Double dockers going under some m1 motorway bridges, very close they mets just know what they r at.

i remember following a car transporter full of minis down the a34 and the aerials on the cars brushed one of the bridges near sutton scotney

They weren’t following a Sat Nav■■?
