the nodding donkey:
I weep. This backstabbing, lying, self serving, egotistical away with the faeries piece of bovine excrement who jumps onto any popular bandwagon for as long as itcallows him to bask in the warm glow of approval, says something true about trucks, and he’s the [zb] messiah.
That obviously describes all the anti fossil fuel pro nuclear and bio mass zealots from Bozo to Starmer and Ed Davey.
Not to mention Al Gore basking in the warm glow of his retirement funds from his investment returns in Octopus’ planned all electric captive market.
As for trucks he and his party are at the forefront of the policy of let’s get freight off the road just like all the rest of them.

The tories have had by far the most time in office over the last 100 years - but everything positive - like the NHS - was created by (old) Labour.
The NHS was a Socialist solution to low wages that didn’t meet the costs of health care.
The result was Callagahan’s wage controls and the debt ridden rationed basket case that such a solution predictably resulted in.
Good luck anyone of that generation now asking the friendly NHS for vascular micro surgery to save them from dying of gangrene.Or an intensive care bed on demand.
Liverpool Pathways then being the default choice.
Old Labour/real labour, as opposed to a self serving far left institution, would have concentrated on wages within the Capitalist system, at levels which could sustain decent health care just like Germany.
Instead of which we got Callaghan’s social contract and jobs exported to Euroland.
Who needs Tories with friends like that.
Whats wrong with socialist? The tories wouldnt give anyone health care. Before the NHS if you had no money you simply had to watch your loved ones suffer and die.
Callaghan was under the bootheel of the IMF at the time - Thatchers buddies - they were the ones who demanded wage cuts.
Hilarious watching Boris saying “pay more” while removing the poxy 20 quid universal credit raise - subsidising all his tory boss mates miserable pay. 40% of universal credit people are already in work.

Typically it will take someone working about 9hrs to gain back that lost 20 quid.
.
Benefits are taken away as pay increase, but not in a simple way…
…
“More Or Less” covered this in depth a few weeks ago. I’ll look later to give a link unless some else can do so sooner.

Agreed.
Also known as socialism for the rich, capitalism for the poor.
whisperingsmith: > adam277: > Personally, I am not even against immigration but it should be us who choose who comes here not some “Free-movement” system that allows anyone who manages to get into the EU to come across. > Like NHS workers for example or Teachers. We don’t have to rely on just EU workers for this now. For example one of Cuba’s biggest exports is healthcare workers.
The ending of Free Movement impacts us more than the EU - we have lost our rights of movement.
WE are now in a similar position to those of the Soviet Block pre-Freedom.
Those of us of a certain age remember exiting Soviet Block Countries and the strict cab & truck searches. They were carried out to find anyone trying to leave the Soviet wonderland.
We are not quite as bad as that here yet, but I for one am seriously p1$$ed off with my loss of free movement - I tell a lie "I am realy, really, 4king Angry about it"
I agree with just about everything posted by adam277 in his post you edited and as for likening our current situation to that of the old soviet block - don’t be daft.
However I am also very dissapointed with the loss of freedom of movement for UK citizens within the EU and really angry with the EU government that it had to come to it.
The problem I see with freedom of movement the way it was, is that it’s only a real freedom if you’re equally as free not to move (as you and I were). What I mean is that for an average working class Romanian - if he is as free to work and earn a living for himself and his family in his home country, as he is to do the same on some distant offshore island then he has freedom of choice in the matter. If on the other hand the only work on offer involves him making that journey then it’s not “freedom” of movement - it’s forced economic migration. Most people now seem to acknowledge that this has also had the effect of keeping down wages here in the UK, this has made me angry for some time.
I regret very much the loss of my own freedom of movement that leaving the EU has caused - I had plans to retire to somewhere much warmer and sunnier than the UK - that has now changed and it will probably be a few years before some kind of stability is achieved, meanwhile many ex-pats are selling up on the costas. So I believe I take a very balanced view of brexit and having considered this and other associated issues voted to leave - so far it appears to have been the best choice on offer. A better one would have been to change the EU while still remaining a member, that didn’t seem to be available but I’m certain that change is needed.
So the free market will sort everything out right enough. Shortages of labour cause higher pay! Hooray for us!
Price rises don’t matter so long as we are paid more. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-58800329
With public sector workers including nurses, doctors and care workers on pay freezes, can we expect them too, to get on their bikes and look elsewhere for better paid jobs?
.
But it’s nice to see that the Johnson speech of 6 years ago saying all lorry drivers were under paid and under appreciated is now being repeated.
It wouldn’t be seemly to accuse him of leaping onto a passing bandwagon, so here is a link. www.opportunistic.id.iot.

NHS workers are not on a pay freeze 3% could be better but not a freeze. Plus the majority of public sector workers are on annual incremental pay increases my wife’s pay has increased every year she has worked in the public service and that includes from 2008 when private workers were taking pay cuts

I stand corrected.
3% currently offered, after the initial 1% offer to the NHS.
Other public sector workers pay is however “paused”, I believe?
There is however a 7% reduction in real terms for health workers since 2010. nuffieldtrust.org.uk/resour … 10-to-2020
.
My question stands though, do we want health and other workers to be subject to “free market forces”? Or should they get better in a civilised* society?
*not a place where the bullies and those who will let the weak go hang, get most reward.

Hard to stay the same tho - from '79 the tories closed heavy industry hoping to turn us into a cheap labour paradise. It worked for 40 years - then it went wrong. Most old labour voters could depend on getting a house, a good well-paid job. After Thatcher - that all died.
I think you will find it was that nice smiley Tony Blair that made this Country a cheap labour paradise, (no pun intended) during his stewardship.

Blair was just typical UK PM material it doesn’t matter what flag they are under useless waste of space is the qualification for the job.
That was the year I that had to leave the Brit automotive industry.
Then things got worse. The road transport industry needed a gross weight increase to 48t it didn’t even get 38t at that point in time.It needed a reduction in road fuel taxation. So what did the Tories do.Ironically I didn’t even know that Labour were opposing planned road fuel taxation increases at that time.At least Foot was better than Blair.
As for race to the bottom Tebitt.

having traveled to france since the mid 80’s for holidays and to spain italy germany switzland portugal etc i have never ever once had an issue at customs. more often then not we could barly get out passports out the window before they were waving us on.
European borders were never a big deal even before we’d joined the ‘EEC’.
It only got more difficult crossing into the old eastern bloc like Yugoslavia where the queues trying to get from Austria or Italy were usually epic in mid Summer. Not so many Brit tourists ventured there by car though.Usually German and Dutch.

David Davis is more Labour than Blair.IDS is better than Starmer.
Boris is a LibDem which just means champagne socialist…like Davey and Blair.
All three no hoper Party leaders are doing what’s good for ‘developing countries’ not us.
They are bringing this country to its knees which will be clear when we’re totally dependent on unaffordable dangerous nuclear energy and we no longer have the defence budget to defend the place.

Which is exactly what is wrong. The taxpayer subsidising skinflint companies whose business model only supports the director’s salaries.

The NHS has morped into a moneypit politically-correct monster over the past couple of decades though…
You can thank a Labour PM for that as well.
“Free at point of sale” - stops working the moment you have unfettered immigration. Blair’s doing as well.
“Constantly expanding budget required for NON medical staff” - Also at Blair’s initiation.
To fix the NHS I’d argue we need to return to the roots of it post WWII:-
Bring back Matron.
Get rid of “Nursing Officers”.
Pay Doctors and nurses a whole lot more, and put them back in charge of cleanliness in hospitals.
Get rid of Non-medical staff except porters. “Triage Admin”, “Cleaners” who leave the place dirtier than when they started - all can be got rid of. You’d also get rid of that nasty bunch of far left types who sit around on motorways, develop, spread, and maintain MRSA, and expect to be paid full pay whilst forever off sick… Strange how so few of them are “Medical” people that actually need to be working in a hospital at all!
(It wasn’t that long ago when Nurses could buff up a ward good enough that you could eat your dinner off the floor without getting grit in your teeth, let alone “poisoned”…)
It was always the Tories who got accused of “returning Britain to Victorian Values” - when in fact that old adage “Poor people get ill, go into Hospital, and end up dying there” was something Labour did to their own NHS since the turn of the century, and thus cannot be blamed on “Tory Cuts” especially with the wicked witch already dead, and entrenched Labour boroughs/MPs doing little to improve the lot of the once-great NHS hospitals in their constituencies…
No matter how “bad” the nhs is - at least you dont have to die if you get ill and have no money. Thats the reality without it. Nye bevin started it after watching his father die cos he didnt have the money to tempt a doctor to visit.
Sorry but just a little while ago the big nobs in the NHS said they would have to choose who to save during big covid pantomime I at 72 not been chosen to save …started work 15 ret at 68 still do a bit now . While looking after rest of the world some who come then run up huge bills then clear off ,some come just for quick treatment and clear off…I pay for dentist ,I pay for glasses I pay for LGV sorry HGV licence and all the other stuff. Both LABOUR and the CONS have shafted the WORKERS at the bottom,LABOUR are not for the working man ,They say nothing about the unfettered illegal immigration AND even more to be let in …the CONS steeling pensions ,putting retirement age up…both let house inflation rip stopping young ones getting a home…forget the two main parties LIB DIMS are they still going or have they taken my advice and called themselves the PIE in the SKY party …ha feel a lot better now
