Blinged up trucks

id be lieing if said i wouldnt want a blinged up motor, ive always had fairly standard fleet motors, and i must admit whenever i see ,hear a v8 scania i think id love to drive one on a regular basis.
pay for it , well ive not thought twice over the years on tarting up cars motorbikes, i know youll say i own them , but sometimes id only use the bike once a week for a blast on a sunday, car a hour or two a day, wouldnt my money be better spent on doing something up i spend 15 hrs a day in, 5/6 days a week

A round of applause for honesty!!! Can’t fault yr thoughts at all. When i was an employed driver, I only polished when payed to do so and under protest. I never bolted on anything, not even a wheel trim!!! Neverfelt it was for me. Now, i do agree with Ady’s thoughts. If yr spending a full week with yr employers truck, why not make yr mark? Some drivers think its spot on to go into a pub or bar of an evening and blow 20 quid a night? I don’t hear anyone slagging them off, even thou they could possibly be over the limit the next day. But you’ll all defend them and say well its their entitlement after booking off. I’ve no problem with it at all, just trying to flip this on its head. Thousands of families in the uk rent council houses, a vast majority of them do so with pride and it shows when they spend their hard earned on the garden ect. So whats different with a truck driver? Live and let live. As for giving up holiday entitlement? Who cares!!! Its none of our business.

And just so you know, I own my truck, I’ve worked bloody hard for the privilage, and i will dress it anyway i please. I’ve gained a reasonable reputation by having a clean and tidy truck. No customer has ever complained nor criticised.

I’ll apologise now if this seems like a rant, it wasn’t what i intended. I just got thinking about this post and felt that sometimes there are more important issues to debate. I go now!!! scuttles off

ill agree with you there,
if i had my own motor and say i was touring i probably would spend money on my motor, mayby a lightbar and a few bits for the interior, tartan curtains, floor mats etc. but thats as far as i would go tbh.
with fleet motors ill just give it a wash once a week or something.

i would love to have owned my own motor and i would have blinged it up with out doubt i think there are some cracking looking trucks on the road real head turners in my opinion, and now well we only have a couple of artics and about 8 eight wheelers my boss dont mind me putting bling on it but the money holds me back otherwise i would,i got the curtains, polished wheels and front leds but thats it and i keep it as clean as i can considering we do tipper work some tell me it looks smart but i never think so, mr vain i love your motor just enough.i still dont understand why people that drive say fleet trucks ie argos, tesco, asda, feel the need to moan about us that like a nice truck do we tell them how to go on of course we dont will you see them at truck shows having a good laugh and enjoying the trucks we drive no you wont.if i see a decent truck aboout i do admire them because i know what work goes into getting the truck up to that sort of standard.
and to those that dont like a blinged truck its truckfest time and all the pics and tales from the shows will be on here so perhaps you shouldnt look on here for a while, polish is out and wheels are getting shiny,£14 a bottle the polish cost me and before they have a moan about that a bottle last ages if you go staedy.see you all at peterboro well may be not all of you.

Your motor is very smart hanson. I remember talking to you at the ambergate fund raiser event last year and your truck was gleaming, credit to you as the work you do aint exactly the cleanest.

thank you grasshopper

if the pay doesn’t suffer then i don’t see a problem with the guys with all the lights and polished bits, i’d rather see a clean polished truck than a dirty heap more pride in the job maybe??

bling’s fine if you have the time to keep it clean, unfortunately due to the work they do our motors can look very old very quickly, we have a 54 plate 8 wheeler thats hanging, even got alloy wheels somewhere under the mud & brake dust, trouble is it’s bought as a tool to do a job & it gets the job done . on the other hand we have a basic FM Xreg 8 wheeler thats been driven by the same driver since new & it look in fairly good nick.

ooh canundrum newer lorry that looks cr@p or older lorry thats well presented ?

Unfortunately the condition of the truck is a reflection on you the driver & that goes for every truck on the fleet my fleet No. is BT07 but it’s refered to as my truck just like GZS is pauls truck etc.etc.
As long as i can get near the pressure washer a couple of times a week i’m happy , i’ll even polish the fuel tank a couple of times a year but thats me done i’m afraid, if you saw some of the places i go the first thought to polish would be why bother .

i wouldn’t throw in a job just for a better motor as stated before the bills need paying & shiney wheels & fuel tanks won’t impress my bank manager much

Have to agree with you about the places that we go, I reguarly go onsite, off road whatever you wanna call it, BUT I always manage to keep it somewhat clean, also the thing that gets me is when people dont clean the cab interior   Have seen a fair few motors that are sleeper cabs on this work and the interior is DISGUSTING! How can people sleep in a motor that is filthy and covered in dust
I always try to wash it properly at least once a week and give it a polish couple of times a month, the wheels get a polish once a month too. I get called a saddo and other stuff, but my boss is reguarly phoned up by customers and complimented on my truck.   makes it worthwhile when they say nice to see a truck thats looked after.
If you are out and about keep your eyes peeled for my truck…KR57 LUW and XVO2VOX our 8 wheelers and see if you can spot which is mine

No I wouldn’t and in fact not that long ago, maybe 3 years ago, I turned down a job because the vehicle I would have been driving was blinged up, spotlights, light bars, tasselled curtains and the rest. It would have been too embarrassing to drive it so I went elsewhere.

I`ve got a customer who lets his drivers bling up their chariots, I ■■■■■■■ dread certain registrations, nothing more than “pimp mobiles”, it takes an hour to shift all the crap out of the windscreen, and reposition the curtains :open_mouth:

Mind, the drivers he employs are an ugly bunch, so, the forward slanted curtains hide the quasi look a likes

The best bit though, is the “pimp” drivers are an idle bunch who spend more time polishing their chariots than actually getting the work done.

like i said the actros ones are really thick and the ones i paid for out of my own money which i earned and can do with it as i feel are thinner
WTF to you too  no need to swear they’re only curtains FFS   not as if its the end of the world is it? live and let live

wb i do symperthise with you, but for me as a profesional trucker, i have three standards, 1 drivers with standard truck curtains commoners or working class, 2 drivers with tassled curtains middle class, and there,s drivers like me with venesian blinds, which i would call upper class.    ps i,ve heard that blueboy drives a day cab wagon and has no need for curtains        jelousey is a dangerous thing

I’m not a fan of the “mobile car boot sale” myself, even more I think those that run around with maps, paperwork and lunchboxes on the
dash are just sloppy.

Idle and polishing? Yeah right. Come to truckfest and see all the idle drivers there, you can’t move for them!!!

I was told and I had no reason to doubt the information that one of Punchards young drivers did not claim night out money because his boss allowed him to bling up his truck and do the continent.

I know there are some photos of Punchard around the site but not sure if the driver is a member on here.

Carl normally knows the score about the local firms who allow customising.

Punchard pays for the light bar & spots & beacons on our trucks. We need the spots for when We load Logs in the forest, need the beacons for when we go on to building sites. Both Ben & Fat Lad got paid more than us as they did weekends away, Fat Lad has left now.
