Bewick Tractor units through the years

Retired Old ■■■■:
At least we’re getting some decent ERF pics out of all this!

The LV could have no foot step/well cab above axle, or a foot step/well cab in front of the axle both with the round
tow eye.
The A-series had foot step/well and that was it and the towing crossmember if fitted or not.
the A-series was not avalible with the cab above the axle :open_mouth: , i think, could be wrong though.

Telekonsteve:

They were on about this on the erf page on Facebook the other week, the way they explained it, that post above that I copied was only a bit of the discussion, but if they’re right hardly any of what I took to be A series are in fact a series but in the end they said the easiest way to tell is the towing pin :unamused:  :unamused: :unamused:

Hi 8LXBV8BRIAN,
The LV 4 wheel rigids we had the step well to the front of axle.
The LV 6 wheel rigid had the step above the front axle.
The LV tractor unit UWT 666L had step above front axle.
" " " " SFL 99G " " " " "
The LV tractor unit OBD ■■? F had step well in front of axle.

Cheers Malc.

Dennis, i’m not sure all your driver mastered this roping & sheeting lark.

That swine’s pinched my load!

All this “is it, was it an ‘A’ Series or an ‘LV’” confusion.   The AEC / Leyland method of naming was much better. Stick a name badge on 'em. Unless of course someone switched a Mandator badge onto a Mercury, then you found out the difference when you drove it.

Now to me that looks like a late 50’s shot of either “H”'s or Larry’s motor standing on Tower Hill waiting for a re-load back up the way.Anon 1,

Now then Malc,on the the third shot from the top,who sheeted that dropped trailer ? You or Buttons ? what a state, just look at how the sheet is twisted around the headboard !!Terrible just terrible  If I’d bought the firm off the two Lads I’d have had to send our Foreman down to Ingleton to give some intensive training on how to sheet and rope proper like, might even have come down my-self eh! :unamused:  Cheers Dennis.

Hi Dennis,
No idea who done it but nobody would go near that
single axle (Boden) trailer to be bothered.
It’s a good job you didn’t take over after i left you
lads couldn’t have managed all the multidrops and
hard graft !!!

Cheers Malc

Now then Malc, wheres the graft in loading 18 pallets of butter in a van, then when your tipped reloading at Van den Burghs with anoter 18 pallets, closing the back doors and off back up North, our lads reckoned it was a doddle,“those Howarth lads don’t know they are born” I’ve heard them comment :open_mouth:  Cheers Dennis.

Here you are Malc,a 26ft Boden single axle on it’s side at Ambleside, and it wasn’t even moving eh!Cheers Dennis.

Don’t let’s go down that “Overweight managing director” road again! :unamused:

Might try and dig out some more shots, if anyone is interested but got a new computer and scanner so it may take a while  Bewick.

As my Granddaughter used to say a few years ago " " your 'puter isn’t working Dadad " seems to be on the ■■■■■■■ blink to-night, maybe it will clear its-self overnight ! Cheers Bewick

50th Birthday of one of our top drivers Duncan McMinn at The ■■■■ and Dolphin pub in Kendal ( now Apartments) mid 80’s Dunc now lives in retirement in Aberdeen and occasionally visits Kendal to visit family and friends. The iced cake was supposed to be an ERF but Duncan was a Scania driver at the time, the party was hilarious and a great craic ! Cheers Bewick.
