A shot of the oldest of the Big J’s we ran at Bewick Transport the one that had the 8LXB engine
The photo’s a wee bit blurred, Dennis. I can’t quite make out the numbers following the word, “Gardner” on the grille badge.

Hiya ROF, I must ask if you have a Specsavers near to where you live ! Anyone with half decent eyesight can see the numbers next to the word Gardner are quite clearly 2-----4----0 and pronounced “TWO FORTY” Cheers Dennis.
Dennis.
I’m in dock at the mo with a bout of 'flu and have been reading through your thread from day one.
Fascinating stuff with a brilliant archive of pictures. All presented with a great deal of humour.
Like many on Trucknet that inhabit ( or is it haunt ) these threads , I started my career on Atkis and ERFs roping and sheeting , badly at first but I did get better under tuition of the " oldies " . Looking at your pics has caused long forgotten memories to surface…
I’ll be a regular " window licker " on here now…
Keep up,the good work .
Best wishes .
Baldrick.

The Big J at the back of the rank mate ! Cheers Bewick.
I have just come across this thread and noticed the ribbing about twisting a sheet around the headboard. Certainly the picture in question does show a mess, but I just wonder about sheeting the Atkinson four wheeler. I can’t really see much alternative to wrapping the sheet back under the headboard side rave. If and it was a big if, you could throw the sheet rope through the miniscule gap between the headboard and the cab successfully and then thread the sheet through in the accustomed manner, then there was a more than even chance that the Percy’s exhaust manifold would set the whole lorry alight.
AND THAT WAS THE BEST THING THAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED TO IT!!!
NOOOOO. A few tried to destroy this one, but I liked it.

Nice c series of Iddons behind the French Bedford .
