Bewick Tractor units through the years

There was a theory many years ago that a vehicle’s income could be broken into three parts- 1/3 for fuel, 1/3 for the driver & 1/3 for the lorry. The Lorry’s third included standing costs, replacement cost and profit for the operator. And of course the driver himself didn’t get the whole of “his” portion; there were holidays, National Insurance, etc to take into consideration as well.

I used to have great difficulty at times explaining to our various shop stewards that there was a “cake” and it was sliced up to account for all the operational costs,of which a fairly large slice went to paying our drivers and their related costs,Wages,NHI,holiday pay,a substantial accident benefit and subsistance and if one slice was allowed to grow larger in comparison to the other slices something else would suffer which would cause us no end of problems as the cake was only so big.Did they understand this explanation, did they hellers like but they had to accept it as the alternative was to “■■■■ off” and get a job with another local haulier and be forced to accept lower wages and a lot worse working practices.Happy days, now where did I put my lump hammer :unamused: Cheers Dennis.

Truck show to-night,somewhere ? I dont know who the big ugly ■■■■■■■ is third from left, probably some wally wanabe cab happy youth  Cheers Dennis.

Picture keeps coming up small Dennis, but can make out you must have bought a job lot of cheap blue jeans

Obviously the Bewick company uniform, before they had saved up enough for the matching jackets

Strictly “off duty” weekend garb,on Monday morning you wouldn’t have recognised them all “■■■■ and span” in blue two piece uniform,no ties though like the “fast ones mob” a tie was ■■■■■■■ dangerous when unloading reels  Cheers Dennis.

This is a shot of a Rochdale based ERF coupled to one of a batch TASK tandem axles I had built at ■■■■■■■■■■■■■■■ only difference between these and a Tri axle was the absence of a fron’t axle, although they were built with a cross beam ready for the addition of a third axle at a future date, plus the cost of the trailer was circa £1250 less than a Tri.These trailers mainly operated out of Devon Valley Mill at Hele,Cullompton, but eventually I did return them all to ■■■■■■■■■■■ to be fitted with a 3rd axle as our demand for 38ton on the fleet increased.

Very much doubt it by now as the last new Scania I bought at Bewick Transport was in 1995,but never say never, who knows one of the Atky Borderers from the early '70’s may pop up at an old truck show, but the chances are,I would think, slim and none, and Slim has just left town   Cheers Bewick.

Quiet night on the site this evening so here is something completley different,an Iveco we had on long term demo for 6 months IIRC,well it was better than a “punch in the ear”

Here it is again Dennis.

Iveco night to-night,but do not worry I havent run out of shots of good motors, yet, :open_mouth: This is a Sunday mid-day shot of another, later,Iveco we had on long term demo ready to head south with 24 ton of Libby Orange “C”.The driver is one of the younger “star” men at Bewick Transport at that time, went by the nick name of “Skippy” and he would end up driving a near new R 450 6x2 Scania prior to joining WRM.

Genral depot shot to-night,a line up of Red & Whites, how did that poxy DAF get in on the shot
