Chillidoritos:
Does this happen often??I agreed to work Saturday and Monday with Sunday as my reduced weekly rest. Day off.
Bit of background, previous to this weekend I’ve only done one shift with this agency. They offered me a job full time job straight after… which I had to turn down as my employer upped his pay and I don’t trust agencies. They call me Friday gagging for me to work for them.
Still waiting on a reply… They don’t seem to have the balls to continue…
First OP, hopefully the picture loaded.

That’s just OTT Mate… You used your Rest time to reply to them… You broke the law there buddy…
Conor:
One wonders whether the OP is as fastidious about all the rules if they’re complaining about receiving a text on their weekly rest. One wonders if they strap every load down to the standards VOSA expect, do a proper walk around and don’t take out a truck if its got a marker light out or one bulb out of a pair on a rear sidelight. One wonders whether the OP has their tacho on break or Other Work/PoA when tipping on a bay. One wonders whether they brake to the new lower speed limit before they pass the sign, whether they make sure they don’t accelerate to the higher one until they’ve passed the sign, whether they park on double yellows waiting to get into a place to unload…I would be probably safe in saying the OP interprets the rules to their benefit when they see fit rather than following them to the letter, especially on a Friday.
One wonders why you wouldn’t stick to the rules and cover your own arse… Or stick to speed limits in your 44 ton wagon? Unless you like running the risk of fines and losing your vocational licence, on top of harming the public.
Our mechanic will change lights, lenses, mudguards etc before we head out… why work with damaged tools?
I also strap my loads…I run flatbeds, things like to wander about it they aren’t stepped.
I’ll stick to doing my job properly. Ta

This is a great thread. Illustrates the difference in age/experience/expectation etc, of people. I’m enjoying it!
I hold my hands up, I am a bad employer. I rung one of my drivers up today. On his long weekend off.
Even worse, it wasn’t his job, I was looking for a customer’s shipping guy’s personal phone number, ( know they are mates out of work), so I could sort out another drivers problem at customs in germany.
I apologised for ringing, he said absolutely no problem and neither of us can remember who owes who in the big favour merry go round.
I’d hate to work for a them and us firm.

I hope you’ve given him an additional 45hrs off
Removed as I don’t want to cut of an easy source of cash for a minor annoyance.

Nah, just reminded him how lucky he is to work here
Big fuss over nothing.
Say he wasn’t offered work . He was having his weekly rest over the weekend.
Then the agency found him some work for the Monday. And txt/phoned him. Would he ignore them until the Monday? I think not.
Now if they were txt him.like 6 7 pm for a 3am start following day I’d tell em where to go not enough notice.

You know I work for a boss just like that- I help him , he helps me . We don’t keep scores - the wheels go round , the work gets done , and when it is we all play hard together (rally cars , a speed boat , need the lend of a van - "no problem ". In nearly 20 years of driving I’ve never been happier - a great boss and a great bunch of lads that all pull together . I honestly couldn’t imagine how twisted some can be - but then I see things like this and realise how good I actually have it . I supposse its why we never need to advertise for drivers and very few ever leave .

Yeah… I did fall out with my agency over something similar. I had a 4am start, so went to bed at 9pm. Sometime later they texted to change the start time to 6am. I didn’t switch my phone on until I got to the job and they did the “Didn’t anyone tell you” routine. They paid me for the two hours and no - I didn’t record it as other work.
Puts tin hat on.
Speaking as an agency veteran. This is far from being messed around by an agency. It looks like bad communication between themselves and they got the time wrong. This has happened various times with me. It’s always good to confirm. Also when they give you an address, ask for a number for the Transport Manager. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate calling them directly to ask about job details, the employer have similar issues with agencies and they appreciate that they’re getting a Driver who’s switched on, specially as some depots / yards, have special arrangements to get keys and paperwork.
Also working agency you’ll get all sorts of messages and calls all times of the day. My favourite was a company calling me 5 hours after my night shift has finished and I’d left (no one in the office), asking where I was? …at home, the unit is right outside you window.

Thanks for the genuine insight without the bashing lol.
Only work I accept from the agency is for a place round the corner couldn’t get lost even without my sat nav… it’s cushty weekend work. The times and pay were confirmed Friday.
I don’t trust agencies as it is, didn’t want them changing things last minute. Even if it does seem minor… An extra hour with my kids is priceless.
