The-Snowman:
Replying “ok” to a text message is hardly the end of the world.
Things change, including start times. Its why companies use agencies in the first place. Its hardly life or death and to be honest, moaning about it interrupting your weekly rest is pathetic IMO.
It’s barely covered under “being messed about” either.
My start times (and sometimes even the company im going to work for) can change during my days off but rather than be awkward I simply reply “ok”. Its why I have never been without a shift on any day ive been available for the last 4 years, including January to April, while I listen to other drivers complain they only get 1 or 2 shifts a week, and sometimes none.
In short, man up or get a full time gig that has a dedicated start time because it doesnt sound like agency work is for you
Said it before and I say it again …DON’T USE AGENCIES !!!
Agencies are just there to make money out of you, they are owned by greedy, lazy ■■■■■■■■ who charge their customers huge fees per hour as the owners sit on their fat asses and pay the drivers the lowest possible wage with very little benefits of holiday pay and bank huge profits which they use to buy villas on the med and Jaguar cars or similar.
DO NO USE AN AGENCY, if you really want, get together with some others and go free lance or set up your own group, offer the companies drivers for lower fees and take a bigger wage for yourselves. It will work and will really annoy the greedy agency owners.

So avoid agencies by setting up your own?
To be fair Pat I do t like the idea of an agency as I like the certainty of a full time job especially with bills, children etc to pay for because unfortunately those things never seem to have a quiet period of the year.
But…
An agency serves a purpose for all concerned. Sone drivers like the variation, companies like the flexibility and obviously an agency will charge a company more just in the same way that you or I would most likely expect to pay more for an item last minute at short notice. They have to pay holiday and where I am most agencies seem to pay a bit more than what the full timers get. Certainly they do in my place.

Pat you can’t generally say that, there’s good agencies what do fit for the indiviual who works there/for them and there’s really bad ones.
Same as in Haulage > crap jobs and best super HGV jobs.
As normal in life people will talk more about the bad ones. Good news don’t sell [emoji849]

Horses for courses.
I have neither the time nor the energy to run around finding clients and creating contracts. Nor do I have either the desire or the ability to work full time - due to my personal circumstances.
I wish to work randomly as and when it fits in with my schedule. So for me agencies work very well. I’m also happy for them to deal with the admin of chasing payments, dealing with problems - and generally getting grief. I drive - ignore things I don’t like and then go home. And each friday an agreed amount of money drops into my business account.
They do some stuff I don’t want to do - they provide a top quality driver to a company. I get paid. They get paid. Company get a superstar driver. Everyone is happy.
I have been working Class 2 in rhe South East for various agencies for the last 2 years, i have done short term work, nights, trunking, multidrop.
I only work PAYE and i get paid a reasonable rate, in most cases the same as the employees, sometimes more, if an agency jerks me around or their office is full of idiots or i dont like a job or an employer i simply find another job starting the following Monday and move on…
Agencies pay weekly, pay holiday and i can take time off anytime i want to with a few days notice, i worked all thru Xmas and January, there are no gaps in shifts if you want to work all year round…
I worked fully employed before that and there were no advantages, ■■■■ poor outside pension, the agency can do that, not been allowed a day off for a wedding cos 2 others were off already, so what? get 3 agency in instead of 2, free boots and tshirts, the cheapest ill fitting footwear on the market, 10 year old trucks, “we are getting new ones next year”…
We see agencies messing with drivers. What happens when agencies are messed about by hauliers.? EVery one wants the cheapest but they also want the best. Some thing has to give.
