Avoiding supermarket work?

Flat work keeps you out of Rdc!
Steel, concrete, construction, railways, engineering etc.
Same again. Not everyone’s cup of tea.
Securing loads in bad weather can be a pain but then its steady away on a nice day! Plenty of job variation and a bit of exercise while your at it.
Tends to be Monday to fri work.
In general people’s attitudes seem better towards you but there’s always a numpty here and there!
Not every job suits every one but I’ve found mine and it’s not at a supermarket.

The only reason people do supermarket work is they don’t have the guts to do real driving and delivering to places they don’t know, it says a lot when the company have to give there drivers a map to where they are going and you must go this route to it what a joke.
I call them A to B drivers they sometimes get lost going home in there car and even then they would have the sat nav on, its a joke of a job and it don’t represent what the real driver has to do for a living, they are treated like a puppet on a string and they never have to face any challenges they also must love being board out of there head doing the same thing day in day out.
The biggest moan is there was a few cars in the yard or there was loads of cages in my way, now that’s sad.
As I said A to B Drivers

And here we have it, the latest gibbering half-wit…These maps are known as risk assessments & are handy for new drivers (or ‘real’ drivers when 3rd party hauliers are brought in at peak times) because there can be times where, for instance, you need to approach a store from a different route if you’re driving a decker due to low bridges etc.

As for not having the guts to do what you term as real driving, I’v driven trucks for 28 yrs & would happily put my skills up against yours anytime, do you really expect us to believe you never look at maps/sat navs in your job to find places?? What’s the difference then??

You probably couldn’t drive a nail into a loaf of bread, never mind facing these ‘challenges’ of yours.

We may only drive to stores & backhauls, but the T’s & C’s are good, & that makes it all worthwhile. Certainly beats ‘real driving’ any day, lol.

cheekymonkey:
To get back to the point, there are many different facets of truck driving. Just about everything needs to be shifted on a lorry, so if you dont like retail theres plenty of other avenues to explore.
Ive been doing steel haulage for the last 4 yrs. Its basically a start-in-the-morning-and-go-home-at-teatime job. It might not suit everyone though. Ive done my share of 02.30 deliveries to high street shops and Ive had many years doing RDCs and I know where Id rather be…Ill leave it to someone else to do ta very much. But beyond that, theres tippers, tanks, agricultural car trans…ect ect I dont know why people think supermarkets are the only game in town. I did work for Tesco in the eighties mind.....now that was very different. Eddie Stobart had few ERFs in Carlisle and he didnt bother anyone. We were very well paid and looked after. That was then of course. This is now. Theres so much about, despite what some might say. So if you don`t like it move on it really is that simple.

I did move on .After being sat in the thurrock traffic
For 3 hours going over time and,Then having to deal with those idiots in there .i drove off …enough was enough

Winseer thats class pal thanks

Evil8Beezle:

Nah that jax guys shadow sparring .Do you not have any decent input in what next ,or are you just here posting for some kind of record , for the number of useless crap posts .

Heard alot of RDC crap in my time, but Nightline and Happysack even put it on TN Forum
Close to 50 years on the road and the last 20 was on Retail shop delivery for a well know high retailer with at the time 700 shops, not all had the same type of delivery access.
Some easy some difficult, some could take any sized trailer others restricted as to size.
All stores old and new where assessed and maps drawn, and any notes regarding trailer size, access points with turning capabilities etc etc
Anybody doing a store for the 1st time did not need to ask other drivers, how or what to do it was on the map.
Post Codes put into a Sat Nav invariably only take you to the front of a store not the delivery area, which could make a vast difference.

I love it when people insist “I have other skills & trades”. If you do & you hate driving so much, ■■■■ off and do them instead and stop saddling us all with your miserable presence in every waiting room we have the misfortune of spending time in. :unamused:

Ran my own car sales business for many years fella, in fact you would be amazed at the diversity in my life. However, the point made was regarding your attitude to folk on here. I have met some of these ’ morons ’ you speak of, and I have worked with a couple of them.

You never know who you are speaking to on here, and it shows a very naïve mindset in my opinion. Calm yourself down, and always remember that glass has germs on it, so it’s unwise to continue licking windows. Cheerio love.

Two things come to mind here.

Number one is that, as seems most likely, you are a typical RDC waiting room ■■■■■■■■■■■ of the type that has done everything and seen everything, including spending a period dangling over a balcony at the Iranian Embassy with your leg on fire in the early 1980s, and is now driving a truck ‘for a rest’.

Number two is that you have such a major attitude problem and the above long list is accurate because you are unable to hold down a job for more than a short while. You’re as good as unemployable, in other words.

Which is it, Clever Cloggs?

Wow! …I’ve just seen this thread, and what I’ve missed
Cov mate :open_mouth: seriously!
I was with you all the way on your o/p , and agreed with you (to a point) when the other guy came back with ‘‘We are only drivers, why do we need entitlement’’ (or words to that effect)

But what’s with all the hostility, bile and beligerence mate :open_mouth:
A bad attitude anywhere makes no friends, maybe your bad rdc experience was partly down to this, who knows. :bulb:
Don’t be going off on one with me either, I’m just trying to put across a bit of friendly constructive criticism here. :bulb:

Anyway, still agree with some of your points, I ■■■■ hate rdc.s, I don’t do them that often tbf, but I would hate to be in them regular.

I also would get bored being an A to B driver everyday, but somebody has to, and good luck to them, but not for me.
I prefer a job with a bit of variety, a challenge, and where I have to use initiative.
Why don’t you try and get something along those lines if you are ■■■■■■ with your present job. :bulb:

Strange how you’d pick driving if you’ve got carpal tunnel syndrome. The vibrations alone from the steering wheel would not be pleasant.
