Avoiding supermarket work?

Radar19:
OP, do you give a zb about how that goods in person is being treated? I certainly wouldn’t be bright eyed and bushy tailed if I had to put up with miserable drivers like you.

Mate his attitude is why he’s most likely spending 4h waiting to get 3 pallets took off. I’m out of Tesco in 40 mins most nights and I don’t mind their waiting rooms at all. I’ve a chair, tv and a toilet and free drinks at one depot if I want one.

Really don’t get the issue with some people.

did i make a huge blunder getting into this game ? … :open_mouth:

Yes

+1. :grimacing: For profit transport in most cases is merd.

My mate who worked on tippers for years got a job on Asda first few months was great. Easy and clean now he hates it.
Days drag and shift pattern ■■■■■ life up he is realy looking to go back tipping now

I love it when people insist “I have other skills & trades”. If you do & you hate driving so much, ■■■■ off and do them instead and stop saddling us all with your miserable presence in every waiting room we have the misfortune of spending time in. :unamused:

I would if I did I’m stuck in the rut of bills and family to opt out now

I would if I could I’m stuck in the rut of bills and family to opt out now

Rough day Rob?

I used to go quite regular to Tesco’s rdc Thurrock, never had any problems there, drivers waiting room was big and had comfortable chairs, television, drink and food machines, used to enjoy it particularly if it was the one drop,i was quite happy to sit there during the day,and saunter back to the yard afterwards.

I emailed the transport minister today.

I hope your spelling & grammar were of a better standard than they are on here, the poor fella’s probably still trying to decipher your ramblings.
It’s a shame these ‘other skills’ of yours don’t include the ability to string a sentence together. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I too work for Asda and yes it’s a 24/7 operation but I’ve been doing shift work for about 13 yrs now so I’m used to it, the 40+ days leave a year cushion the blow some what though.

Feel free to point them out.

WTF happens at these places now where “speaking at least one EE language” is a job requirement?

There might be 10 forkies to a bay - but you cannot ask them anything, because they don’t speak English well, and you definitely don’t speak Polish/Lithuanian/Czech/Magya/Whatever.

The clerical staff in the waiting room, however, are EE too, speaking very good English - just not the “English” you want to be hearing:-

You must not stay in your cab!
“You must put the keys zeer on my magnetik prong I am holding out to you now”.
“It will take 30 mins to tip. Take a seat. Yes, that broken one has been used by everyone else today without complaint.”
I want to make a complaint.
“Take zis form off my magnetic prong I am holding out to you now, and return it to me in the next 30 minutes which is the time you have” just not this 30 minutes.

I want to speak to the manager here!

Manager comes in flanked by a deputy. 6’6" and built like a brick $hithouse - and that’s just Olga. Boris is about 6’6" around

“Wot seems to be za problehm here?” says Boris, Olga advances upon your position, stopping about 18 inches out from your face, within reach of her popeye-armed strike, but out of reach of your todger, not that you can muster more than an inch anyhow, for the frightful sight before you…

When you walk out into the sunshine, many hours later - you are glad to still be alive. The air is fresh, the birds are singing. It’s a shame you’re on nights, and it’s now bloody midday though.

To get back to the point, there are many different facets of truck driving. Just about everything needs to be shifted on a lorry, so if you dont like retail theres plenty of other avenues to explore.
Ive been doing steel haulage for the last 4 yrs. Its basically a start-in-the-morning-and-go-home-at-teatime job. It might not suit everyone though. Ive done my share of 02.30 deliveries to high street shops and Ive had many years doing RDCs and I know where Id rather be…Ill leave it to someone else to do ta very much. But beyond that, theres tippers, tanks, agricultural car trans…ect ect I dont know why people think supermarkets are the only game in town. I did work for Tesco in the eighties mind.....now that was very different. Eddie Stobart had few ERFs in Carlisle and he didnt bother anyone. We were very well paid and looked after. That was then of course. This is now. Theres so much about, despite what some might say. So if you don`t like it move on it really is that simple.

The only reason people do supermarket work is they don’t have the guts to do real driving and delivering to places they don’t know, it says a lot when the company have to give there drivers a map to where they are going and you must go this route to it what a joke.
I call them A to B drivers they sometimes get lost going home in there car and even then they would have the sat nav on, its a joke of a job and it don’t represent what the real driver has to do for a living, they are treated like a puppet on a string and they never have to face any challenges they also must love being board out of there head doing the same thing day in day out.
The biggest moan is there was a few cars in the yard or there was loads of cages in my way, now that’s sad.
As I said A to B Drivers

Haha what a load of pish. Real driving PMSL.

It’s that kind of arrogance as to why drivers don’t stick together and never will.

The man has a point though. Trolly dollies only drive set routes, to the same shops every day . Back on the loading dock, and wait… the most difficult problem a trolly dolly will ever meet,is an awkwardly parked car.

Wish that was the case for me because I’d be happy with that as I’d most likely could determine what time I finish and how many hours I can get in for the week however I’m here there and everywhere with who I am currently and some of them are not has easy as to do as some people make out and I thought Palmer and Harvey’s did some daft deliveries.

Holy ■■■■. What a load of pish. Nightline is correct here. All these hard places you go to will have addresses and postcodes. Your mega 20 inch sat nav will lead you by the hand. Do you have an automatic gearbox too? About as technical as driving a dodgem car.

Rdc work. I’ve done odd loads and detested it. The best thing about tesco Rdc work is the walk to and from the wagon/goods in.

With regards to the op, why not try artic tippers. Generally its a varied job. I did it years ago. Covered everywhere from central London to the Highlands and islands.
