35quid an hour, pffft, I was on that when I came out of the SAS, right through too, even waiting for a boat in Belgium or at the Chinese border.

We pay our drivers thus:Sadly no parking paid.
.I’m assuming when you say ‘‘We’’ that you are in some management position…so.
How can you justify expecting your drivers to pay to park your vehicles out of their own money without any reimbursement.
I personally would not pay on principle…, nor would I be too fussy where I parked tbh.No company would expect a driver to pay out of his own money to park the truck - “Sadly no parking paid” = Laybys, industrial estates, town centre car parks etc.
I do have a small degree of sympathy for companies maybe encouraging drivers to use some imagination when parking up for the night, quite often you can do a lot better than forking out £20 on a truck stop/MSA for free. However, a blanket “no parking paid” policy to me just stinks of an employer not having very much regard for their employees welfare. Not having the option of paid parking will often land a driver stuck against his will in some crappy layby/industrial estate miles from anywhere with no facilties. Not sure i’d be too comfortable knowing i’d inflicted such poor conditions on a member of staff by being cheap, as i’m driving home to a warm bed. May as well say “bring an empty Lenor bottle drive”.
My gaffer only pays when valuable, other than that I am given 2 hours to find something with no pressure from him if I don’t max out hours to get closer to where we my next job will be.
Occasionally frustrating not because I want to use services or even truck stops, but yes the principal of not paying out is a bit tight fisted when the same boss is driving home in a 60 grand car every night

If someone offered me a job shovelling crap for £20 an hour - I’d be reaching for that bucket and spade already - and I ain’t talking about “a trip to the beach”.!
If someone offered me a job eating proverbial crap though - There isn’t an hourly rate high enough to make it worth my while.
How much do you get an hour for posting it?
"No parking paid"policy means I’m parked up for teatime everyday.
I only use about 12 places in the country…so I work my day out to coincide with one of these.
dozy:
I get £15 m/ a + £22.50 night out money and my tea cost me apx £3.75 from wait rose .
You know drinking that won’t turn you in to a tang, don’t you

you can work it all out anyway that suits you.
your take home pay is the number of queens faces you see in your mitt at the end of the week.
you can dissect it in numerous ways and subtract what it cost you to live out, minus what it would have cost you if you stayed home, but apart from that, you have to allow for doing the type of work that suits you for some sort of job satisfaction.
id rather do a week work in 2 or 3 days then batter on and get another weeks wages on the top for the last 3 days than be taking time off hanging around for a luxurious 11 hours somewhere.
if i was that fond of the pub, cinema or a walk and such, theres no reason to want to tramp,id do dayshift and be home every night unless i had reasons to stay away from my misses.
the only way i could handle 11 hours off all the time would be if i was on a regular trip and had a tart or two tucked away somewhere handy.
braindead tosco/stobart work will be well enough paid, though your only paid from the neck down,it all depends on your own outlook and personal likes and dislikes.
argue all you want, break it down all you want, take home pay is what you get at the end of the week.
if it all adds up to suit you, then happy days, and dont be bothering about whatever someone else gets for a job that suits them better, and if your not happy, then jump ship to a better job.

The customer will pay for parking if it is a valuable load, and yes, I know what you are going to say, that the driver is a valuable load, and I would agree, but I don’t make the rules, but I am trying to change the way it is done, but it is a slow process and not something that can happen overnight.
However, I do know that 2 of our drivers prefer to park where THEY want, and are probably not alone in this thinking. I do know that we are not the only company in the UK that don’t pay for parking, and my former employer was the same, but as were were only on day runs anyhow 99.9% of the time, it wasn’t relevant, but at least we knew from the outset.
Ken.
I used to work for a Recovery firm driving 12T trucks.
6 on 2 off shifts
12 hours per shift… anything over is time and half.
I used to get 500-600 take home every week and go home to my wife every night. But your doing 60+ hours every week
Left it because I fancied a change and learn something new.

Agreed, so many pay schemes with various bonues, meal payments, extra for early starts, etc
None of these are any more guaranteed than night out money and confuse the issue when comparing it between other jobs.
Well now for a first post it has to be this after reading this post replys
I never realised there was so many thick working at driving trucks and on top of that they work for a pittance then you have the guy who tramps so he can spend his 20 quid in a pub or fish and chip shop and
Yet he still earns a pittance for working 24 hours a day
What a tramper is and i dont hold back on this is a lap dog there is no other way to describe it
Who or what kind of human being would put that much time into working and get a pittance for it
I do support you if you’re hard up but there is a limit
Absolutely. Some are even so thick that they have no concept of punctuation.

Yep, from one ‘‘thick tramper’’ to another
, I would agree that is an epic fail there mate.
If people are going to accuse other people on here of being thick, they really need to avoid the ironic situation of coming across as thick themselves.
Our friend Noeleen has failed to achieve that it seems.
A mere 2 out of 10 I would reckon…even if it is just for spelling his/her name correctly.
Need to go I’m in the middle of spending my 20.quid in the pub.

You don’t need that to be street smart
You are agreeing that most on this post work for a pittance it is in your reply

I appreciate that at this time of year you don’t have any homework to do, I also realise that you’ve probably completed all the levels of assassins creed and are consequently bored, but is that really the best you can come up with?

Its by the replys on this post that i am talking about
And yours is that you live to spend your 20 quid a night rather than spend its with your family i think someone needs to get a life or is life that bad at home? If 20 quid means that much no wonder you work for 24 hours a day for a pittance
