Do any of you flash oncoming traffic let them know there’s a copper/speed camera ahead?
Me personally I don’t far as im.concerned if your speeding and mobile camera gets you tough luck
Nope. If someone wants to speed above the threshold where you’d get done then let em get caught not my problem, shouldn’t be speeding.
Nice to see there’s still a lot of empathy and camaraderie around us drivers eh?

Are you a fully paid up member of the ‘Perfect Holier than thou’ club?
No but it’s not hard to just stick to a speed limit is it rob. And where you consider the 10% + 2 or 3 mph that most forces use as leeway if your going over 36 in a 30 or over 58 in a 50 and so on then I’m not bothered if you get done for it. Plain and simple.

You’re right it ain’t hard, but I don’t know how long you’ve been in the job, but can you honestly say you’ve NEVER had a lapse of concentration, maybe early morning or late at night say, and looked at the speedo and thought ‘‘Oh ■■■■, I’ m doing ■■ mph in a ■■ limit’ …in fact maybe even after me or somebody like me has flashed you to warn you.
There are enough people amongst the public who hate us on the roads making the job a pain sometimes, without us getting all arsey and self righteous with each other.

Allegedly lorries buses vans (alleged thumbs down confirmation), cars it depends on what it is how fast its going and likelihood of it being driven by some jobsworth.
A flash and an old school slowing down signal if there’s a blockage or maybe a slow moving bicycle just around the corner you’ve just passed, so gives the oncoming vehicle an early warning that he might have to brake just around the next bend.
Getting rare now to have these warnings from other lorries, i get more warning flashes from cars these days, which just goes to show how bad the anti social feelings between vocational drivers has become, suspect many in the cars that flash you are ex lorryists from the days when driver camaraderie was part of the job.
Best place i go for receiving flashes is rural Wales, almost every single vehicle will warn of a camera van ahead.
Fizzifish:
I’m definitely a flasher. I’m always flashing lorries to change lanes, pull out, pull back in again. I regard myself as a courteous driver, frequently flashing all manner of vehicles in and out of side roads, also waving pedestrians across too. There’s nothing worse than being courteous and flashing someone out and then not even being acknowledged. You end up cursing and wishing you hadn’t let them out but by then it’s too late. If it wasn’t for us truckers letting other vehicles in and out the whole road network would grind to a halt!
Fizzfish, drivers like yourself always worry me. It’s nice to be courteous and all that but you need to be very careful flashing drivers out (or even worse, waving them out) because as I am sure you know if they go and have an accident then you are involved. Just be wary.
That’s rubbish. Flashing your lights is simply the visual equivalent of sounding your horn and used simply to alert others to your presence.
There was an article in the local rag a while ago where someone had tried to blame the other driver for flashing their lights before pulling out in front of them. It didn’t wash, if you’re pulling a manoeuvre, it’s up to you to make sure it’s safe.
It’s not rubbish by the way. It’s a very salient point and one that some drivers need to be aware of.
jakethesnake:
…Can I ask if you understand why I said what I said and if you realise that other drivers have ended up in serious bother with being what they regard as being courteous.
And it’s still the drivers responsibility to check it’s safe to do whatever move they’re intending regardless of being flashed or not.
If some one flashes me out I don’t just blindly go, I’ll still check it’s safe to do so. If I have an accident I’m not one to turn round and say it must be their fault for flashing - it’s solely mine for not proceeding with caution. Responsibilities don’t move just because of a flash!

You do right but a lot of car drivers and pedestrians if flashed or waved will go regardless and that’s where problems can and do arise.
However, if I ever need any ‘Helpful info’ from you to improve my driving, I’ll get back to you.
robroy you will never need help, you are the perfect driver after all these years just like the experienced drivers I used to assess many years ago.
They all thought they were perfect as well.

I’ll endeavour to strive to be as perfect as you Jake.

I am far from perfect but I don’t have years of bad habits like a lot of experienced drivers.

obviously the highway code is wrong in the lala land of jts superior driving then.
if i was you, then id be getting in contact with the relative authorities and informing them of their error to amend the highway code immediately to enable mere mortals such as us can change the habits of lifetimes past and present.
" FLASHING HEADLIGHTS HIGHWAY CODE
The Highway Code states: ‘Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there. Do not flash your headlights to convey any other message or intimidate other road users.’ "
by flashing a truck that overtakes you, then that is what can be implied hence safe for him to pull back in.
is there no end to the condescending pish you spout?
jakethesnake:
Oh dear DD if you took time to read the thread you would find I am not talking about flashing when overtaking.
Try to keep up eh.
^^^^^^^^^
topic of post, flashing when overtaking.as usual your condescending drivvle vaguely relates to the o/p for no other reason to try and post relating to other poor standard drivers,so once again, will there never be any end to the pish you post,or do you just swap shifts with dozy?
do us both a favour and for once dont bother with the last word as although mildly irritating, its just boring and predictable.
the idea of trolling is not to be obvious.
Highway Code under rule 110 it states that drivers should “Only flash your headlights to let other road users know that you are there.”
And also it is.illegal.to flash warn of a mobile speed camera.
.there has been a handfull of people prosecuted for this in the past.
Resulting In a fine of.upto £1000 .

This is the bit that I dont get, these so called “safety cameras” are there to get drivers to reduce their speed. Yet we get drivers being prosecuted for warning other drivers to slow down and members of the public being told to remove their fake ones because they’re dangerous. Surely, if the intention is to improve safety and get drivers to slow down, it doesnt matter what methods are used.
It almost makes me think they’re simply an additional revenue stream.

I wasn’t flashing him to get him to slow down yer 'onor. I flashed him 'cos I thought it was my mate from years back who was driving for that company, to let him know I was there. It wasn’t him
We’re all in this together. Drivers should help each other out, because no bugger else will.
Whether that’s flashing someone in, acknowledging being flashed in, passing a warning of a mobile speed camera or slow mover just round the next bend. How difficult is it?
(50 on single track A roads in England, but it’s STILL flamin’ 40 on single track A roads in Scotland , apart from a couple of ‘trial’ roads)
I don’t understand why some truckers flash in every car that passes them on a dual/motorway though.

Exactly, and that is just how it was once.
I think the rot started to set in around 98ish for some reason, why is that, is it just the type of wastes of skin amongst us that has infested the job today or what?
I remember a few years ago a mate telling me could not get over it when some 2 hat speeded up as he was overtaking him after he let him out of the services, …it’s a daily occurrence nowadays.
So let’s say every truck driver and.aome car driver decide to be courteous flash us all In.
Can you imagine driving the m6 when it’s dark be like a diso lights flashing all over the place.
And.can .gurantee be some.idiot driver sees lights flash and will presume it’s for them.and.just pull over before checking there mirros
As for mobile speed cameras if people use google.maps it shows them. People.click to report them. Which I personally think is dangerous encouraging drivers to tap use there mobile.phone while driving.

Don’t recall it being as bad as that, but at least you never got a bell ender cutting in on you, as he knew he was almost guaranteed a flash, so he would wait.
So then the smart arses rocked up, saying ‘‘I don’t NEED flashed in me’’ , and ■■■■ ed it up, …it was totally lost on them that most of us didn’t t actually NEED it, so the result was the present not sure if you’re going to lose your mirror or get ditched situation as it is now.
