.there has been a handfull of people prosecuted for this in the past.
Resulting In a fine of.upto £1000 .
I remember watching one of those reality police shows not so long back( can’t think why tbh think I was waiting to watch something after it finished) and there was some plod going on about the safety camera and people flashing warnings and I recall him saying it didn’t bother him or any of his colleagues as it makes people slow down so job done as he was concerned.
So I’d think it was unlucky for the handful who have been done for it!

there was a successful case where the driver proved that by flashing warnings about the van that he was helping to stop speeding cars which was upheld with a not guilty,then at that point,plod then changed and made up a charge to cover the aspect of getting their noses rubbed in it to obstructing a police orificer in his duty or some waffle like that.
if you admit to flashing cars specifically about a camera van then you deserve to get done.
I always flash when people overtake me, if they haven’t already cut in before I do, and I always thank people who flash me back in.
I’ve recently started playing a game trying to obtain flashes from non-flashers though. Once I overtake them and am ahead by 10-15 feet (a pretty safe distance to cut back in, but definitely ahead), if I’ve not had a flash I’ll stick my indicator on and just match their speed. If this doesn’t get them to flash then just keep gently veering towards the line separating the lanes byt not crossing it. Managed to get a few flashes from people.
