Agency vs regular

The agencies do try and punish you. I’d done a hard week one time and told them I wanted 2 days off to recover. The reply I got was since your so tired well give you 4 days off instead. Drivers Direct bunch of arse

Not unless he has developed a pathological hatred of everyone with a full time job… :open_mouth:

The only reason agencies exist, is because those companies that use them, want to avoid commitment.

Just been reading about this thread on the Feedback forum.
Am I the only one that thinks that Conor was a bit Ott for throwing a strop and announcing his (assuming permanent) departure.
I don’t think any posts were aimed personally or directly to him were they? Or have some posts been removed by mods?

Really when I think about it agency isn’t something I’d ever look to keep me in work full-time, its just another income stream. The agency I’m with understand that and haven’t, to my knowledge, taken the huff with me yet. They know that through the summer the chance of me doing anything other than a last minute shift are remote and then only if its hissing down and I’m bored out of my skull. I’m really not suited to doing the ‘same old’ day in, day out year after year, it’d me my idea of Hell, fair play to those it does suit though, we’re all different thank ■■■■.

robroy its either time of the month, or hes got the tax man hanging off him for fiddling his income to make his rate look better than it actually is

My history highlights
Started out 16 years ago with a year on class 2 and in that year I worked for 40 different companies with different agencies. Some good some bad.
Passed class 1 went into parcelforce for 9 months full time agency really settled me in to driving bigger stuff.
Only left for more money. Cue a few years working agency for highest payer.
Went into Somerfield St. Helens on agency for next 7 years was highly regarded but never offered proper position. It was here that I earned upto £16.50 an but started to noticed strange surnames and accents coming in. One day I stopped getting booked turned out I’d been banned. No one would tell me why or even admit I was banned I was just shooed out the door.
Next sent to my current job on agency. Good job but hours up and down. Final straw I got suspended cos one of their trucks corrupted my digi card so had to send for a replacement. Got told don’t come back till you have one we don’t want the paperwork. This was only cos of a disgruntled supervisor.
I’d then had enough of other people playing with my life so went all out for a ‘proper’ job. Got one with Hermes just opening in Appleton. Funny thing was old form found out they were losing a good agency driver and offered me full time job. I was at Hermes 3 weeks before returning back to old place.
Been in my proper job for big blue chip company not stobarts and I got good conditions and good pay.
In summing up agency suited me at one time but some of them really did try to run my life. And these days what I see of them is just mainly foreigners. At one time I didn’t mind them but they have brought wages down. The shift that 10 years ago used to pay £16.50 now pays £14 go figure.

i get near 11 an hour working full time, suits me and my bank manger and the tax man, maybe one day when my wife leaves me and i lose the will to bath or shave and cheap steel top caps force me walk a wobble, i might join the ranks of agency, i ■■■■ well near did once, until i was told how much they were taking from me and id have to be ready at thedrop of a hat for shifts, wasnt for me, parasites the lot of them

Coming from Liverpool I suppose for you allowances are in order, but you might like to point out to me where I said I was an agency driver, or even an employee driver?, from April to August and October to December I’m in England and will be found driving only my own truck in association with my own garden, grounds and property upkeep business [lorn trakta=lawn tractor, corny I know], a business that I built up simultaneously to doing night trunk driving for thirty years, quitting all year round truck driving in Feb 2011, I live in Gibraltar all other times, you just carry on ‘living the dream’ pal, if I were from Liverpool I guess any form of escape is acceptable.

Was that the Foreigners fault? Surely they were just pawns in the game, unless of course they voluntarily went in and cut the rate which I doubt.
More like the unscrupulous agency cashing in on them and at the same time charging their client companys the same same rate as when the Brit drivers were doing the job. As I said ■■■■■■ parasites the lot of them and not the answer to the problems of the British Haulage industry as some appear to believe on here.

Should I be amazed that Trucknet’s so called professional full-time drivers are happy to portray themselves as losers-in-life, you’re effectively confirming on a public forum you cannot make your own way in life or stand on your own two feet without a paternalist employer or a contract of employment to keep you propped up lifelong, so your servile dependence upon another is something to boast about is it?, along with portraying yourselves as such dullards you cannot grasp the concept of people acquiring incomes simultaneously through more than one source, do what?, in upwardly mobile Britain 2015?, just how deep is that rut of unenterprising uninspiring predictability that your lives are stuck in, you do realize that you are a LONG TIME DEAD.

Your employers know they’re going to be a long time dead, that’s why they live their lives with the most resolute of plans never to be amongst the ranks of the losers-in-life, that’s you their servile full-time employees, things in life like a seven figure sum primary residence, a six figure sum secondary residence, bespoke holidays, bespoke automobiles; I’m sure you get the picture, are the things in life that are of far greater importance to them than signing a contract of lifelong low waged servitude, to spend their ONE-AND-ONLY life repeatedly for days/weeks-on-end in a tiny tin box.

For many to be cooped-up overnight in ‘sleeper cabs’ of such laughable dimensions their EU masters who dictate the size of them wouldn’t accept them as a toilet cubicle, I doubt your employers would laugh off having to crap at the roadside here in the ‘first world’ with the indignity of refugees in the ‘third world’ to satisfy the fanatical enforcement of their EU masters tachograph regulations, so the things in life that aren’t remotely good enough for your employers are plenty good enough for you, that I can truly believe, but if you believe I’ve got it wrong tell me why your employers wouldn’t be seen dead in your shoes, if I had ever existed as you do I would have done my level best to conceal that even from my children, some of you full-time drivers are some right chimps, the more you say the more you qualify for the Foot in Mouth award.

And before anyone tells me to get off my ‘high horse’ by claiming this thread is mere banter or togue-in-cheek, the Trucknet neanderthals contributing to agency-slating; when and wherever possible, might care to proffer an explanation to the more advanced in society how any person with any degree of bodily infirmity is at all an acceptable subject for public ridicule, based upon their bodily ailment?, what next a thread that overlooks the ridiculing of those with only one eye, or judging by your entourages desperation for cheap laughs someone totally blind, they would be easy pushover, right up Trucknet’s ethical back alley, having had at one time five pins in a leg and three till I die if you Trucknet dumbasses attempted to ridicule me face-to-face for my limp you would pay a price such that the devil would weep for you, oh and congratulations trucknet neanderthals on maintaining your standard of threads and posts that ensure Trucknet remains to the world of professional drivers what a Star-trek convention is to the world of professional astronauts.

So you spent 30 years building up a business mowing people’s grass, you could accomplish that in 6 months.
Seems like your a bitter old guy who keeps telling himself that he has “made it” because after 30 years of driving trucks you have “escaped” it.

why on earth would i want to escape liverpool, all my family and friends are from here, granted if i got a bit of money and could afford a better house id probably move from were i live now, but id stay in liverpool, thing is ive found something i enjoy in a place that i enjoy it, ok ill never be a millionaire on £11 an hour but im living a good life and so are my family, ill never ne more than what i am and no one will ever be lesser than me, ok ive took the ■■■■ out of a few people on here but isnt that what banters all about, if you heard me and mates down you wouldnt think we liked each other because of the amount of ripping that goes on, but underneath were all good mates, sort of what goes on on here just some people take it a bit more personal than others, i mean you traded 30 years of night trunking in your ex wifes underwear for an ingenious plan to start cutting grass, anyway with a few grand can buy a ride on mower and knock on a few doors and get lucky, just like anyone can drive a truck these days, moto is just coz youve got a few bob now doesnt make you any better than the rest of us, you were once a knuckle dragging truck driver just like us, just now your heads that far up your arse you can see it no more, o mighty lord of the manor

I don’t drive trucks at the moment. so am exempt from the pathos.

However I did cut my front and rear lawns on Sunday and put the cuttings in the recycling bin. Was real easy, didn’t even have to sit through 35 hours of classroom training - great.

Now if the lawn tractor man was simply meaning to say don’t criticise the agency guys as the employed drivers aren’t exactly high flyers themselves, I could understand that, but why the need for paragraphs of rant. Am I right in presuming if only here for part of the year they use agency or seasonal workers themselves perhaps?
