with all the slating of agency drivers on here by so called professional drivers like seth 70, james the cat, contraflow, and other anti agency saddos, how about somebody giving a television company an idea,we have had a number of programmes about truck driving so how about a series on agency vs regular drivers, settle the argument once and for all,my guess is agency drivers would come out on top, lets face it regulars probably make the same mistakes as agency but would never admit it cos they would not like to lose face to an agency driver, but a programme would bring all that out in the open, one example would be when a regular has an accident and blames the agency because they don’t have the bottle to admit to it,end of the day half the workload in this country would never be done without the help of agency drivers,as an agency myself I have actually met quite a few muppet agency drivers but also the same amount in regular drivers, wether you like it or not we are all as bad as each other
Just have a show with agency drivers battling against each other and the winner gets a full time job.
Nice bite btw.

Whats the point of a silly tv programme ,for a start the agency man would turn up late [[if at all]]for filming and need too long in make up to make him presentable for tele

+1
Problem is agency man wouldn’t be able to see himself on TV is shown on Saturday/Sunday night. I’m being considerate here.

Bet Conor would beg to disagree
The TV budget would have to be pretty big as well to cover the damage caused, the massive hourly rates the drivers expect as they don’t need the money and the time to get enough footage as they don’t work 5 days a week.
As someone posted on here a bit back…The Agency driver, the whipping boy for the incompetent full timer… thought that was a good quote.
I’m trying to work out how I became included in the “anti agency saddo” club. I’ve only made one comment to my memory re agency which was actually a joke comment. Can be one of 2 reasons. Mmm, allow me to expand my thoughts:-
1/ I’ve taken issue with the agency high priest, Conor. It maybe like Scientology. Insult their high priest, be threatened with alien abduction.
2/ I was included in the “anti agency saddo” club because of my comment on the “it came off in my hand” thread, in which I actually was joking, playing on the slating of agency drivers on here.
Now I’ve been included in this club I might get to like it now I’ve been vilified.

Except the agency man is more conspicuous by having his hi viz and handsfree ear piece permanently attached to himself.
Well ive been a regular driver for 26years and agency driving for 4years and agency wins hands down. You can have as much time off as you want and not have to answer to anyone.Saying that just had six weeks off getting to like it but money starts to drain away so better get back behind the wheel again.
How about a mention of us old ■■■■■ who for reasons of age or medical problems no longer want or are able to drive full time or at all. We all like Gardners with proper range change boxes and two speed axles and no bed to sleep on .
In a lifetime when the agency was not even swimming in his dad’s Y fronts !
We need the ■■■■ taking too !!!

If you compare like for like, then the kind of mistake that agency drivers make most often is a “procedural” one rather than a driving mistake.
Eg. mistakes with a different kind of paperwork at a new yard, a different H&S structure in a new yard etc etc.
The full timer might make mistakes based on their familiarity being broken by something unusual happening - which could be as little as “getting not their regular tractor” or “being wound up by someone you’ve got to put up with every day”. In other words, “forced errors”.
Out on the road though - I’d like to think all drivers are equal, given experience & qualifaction matched. Two 53 year old “Joe Average” drivers with a clean licence of umpteen years standing but one full time and one agency - I would expect to be very closely matched indeed.
Would be interesting…
Agency Driver: Moaning about the regular driver’s selection of in-cab biscuits
Regular Driver: Polishing diesel tank and brushing down the velvet peek a boo curtains before leaving
I don’t care what people say about Agency Drivers, at the end of the day, we do the same sort of thing, we get paid to drive a truck. Admittedly some agency drivers get paid more than the regulars who get the hump on and moan on here that agency drivers are ■■■■.
The problem is, there are some good agency drivers who get the job done and cause no damage, and there are some ■■■■ agency drivers who will wreck a truck/■■■■ a bridge. Sadly it is the latter that get mentioned more than the good ones.
Hey! Now come on! I’m sure there are some very very good agency drivers out there.
I just haven’t met Conor yet…

I’m a bit gutted to have been left out myself TBH.
Not sure he’s real agency anyway as he hasn’t mentioned how it really suits his lifestyle.

I heard someone describe agency drivers the other day as “those instant drivers… you just add water… a bit like custard”.
I think that quote is better.
