Can I just say the reason I asked jack knife if he ever worked at mcdowells to know the rates claimed. He hasn’t, just going off of gospel. A bit like me saying stobarts pay midget drivers £4.50 an hour, cause theyre half the size theyre only allowed half the rates or like saying prestons of potto are now paying drivers £18 p/h ! Never worked there though…but cause someone told me once up town or at an rdc it must be true 
I’ve not been offered a full time gig yet, just hearing bits and bats from folk telling me from the office but I’ll believe it when the contracts on the table for me to sign. So until then I’m not worrying, I’m enjoying my job, the money in my opinion is some of the best I’ve earnt ever, and its a job I’ve wanted to do since I was a kid regarding the driving gig. And its not like there isn’t work out there should something not work out, but until then I’m content. My chips as someone put it aren’t being ■■■■■■ on because to be honest I’m not all that bothered. When you’ve come from having ■■■■ all to now earning decent money in grateful of the chance. More than incan say for a good majority of the lazy ■■■■■ my age sat at home wasting away their miserable existences.

Mcdowells are renowned for paying NMW as the x driver wouldn’t tell us the pay rate for fear of ridicule on here tell us it’s ■■■■ poor.

Johnny you sleep better in the merc or daf?
Well when I’m done doing an Olympic try out to get the bed down (ever seen a fat bloke do gymnastics? Not fun! 
) I slept better in the daf. Id go as far to say if the cf and xf bunks are of the same comfort and if the autos are as good as this id say daf are on a winner!
When I had an incline I was going to get it immediately I hated it and wrote it off, but its winning me over! It was the same with the stralis though Managed to get 80% on the ‘eco performance’ gadget on this thing. For my first trip id say that’s good going. Its handy in this as well having a reversing camera like the stralis, reversing is somewhat easier in city centres and not to mention the lives it saves 
The amount of people who walk behind the truck is unbelievable, and the public wonder how the hell accidents happen like the dray driver that ran over the old woman if I remember correctly. Only takes a split second for someone to walk by and you not see them into the mirror! I’ll go into details on the truck later though.
But first impressions is, its a ‘grow on me’ truck. Didn’t like it to start but certainly on the way to being one of the best wagons I’ve driven!

Hope they offer you a full time job jtf you seem to enjoy it.
Also it’s nice to see someone been positive about the job.
I was like you full of enthusiasm at the start for a few years,then a couple of bad employers knocked my enjoyment and passion for the industry out of the job but I got a job at a small local haulier run by nice people and I’m happy again.
Money is important but £8 an hour and been happy is better than £10 an hour and hating going to work in my opinion.
It’s not for fear of ridicule, I was happy with the job, the conditions, and the pay! Maybe those you speak to aren’t. So why instead of telling u all about it why don’t they do something about it??
Joe your not fooling anyone if you want real drivers pay the going rate £8-£10PH and rising.
It might also be your attitude towards them if you don’t like it leave.

Thats transport jtf,i will have been some crafty gets run who has come up with the excuse that a kids halloween party has cropped and his kid has been crying down the phone for him to go with him,thus resulting in last minute choppin and changing with dropping for the short straw,dont fret its happened to us all,call treat yourself to a few cans of beer and a chinky[its friday]steady run in tmrw morning on overtime ,bobs your uncle fannys your aunt
I’ve been caught out a few Friday nights thank you contraflow! Two of those being stitch ups but I see it as, if they want to pay me for a few more hours who am I to complain 
As I said Seth, that’s how the job goes sometimes. To be fair, its done me a favor and saved me at least £100 not going to said party But I get my ‘reward’ Monday breaking in a brand spanking new wagon, not sure what make yet although I have the reg so I may just search it on the data base

Dont worry Johnny your not on your own I always end up with the friday nights out.
Just make sure you have next Saturday off! youve got your excuse because you worked this Saturday so need next saturday off. Cant work 2 in a row that’s what I use anyway.
Easy money guaranteed 8 hours at time and half for running in Saturday morning.
Jobs a goodun.
That’s what I always say when they ask my availability, Monday to Saturday if I don’t run in this week. So finishing Friday next week easy job!
