A religion question for Robroy, but will he give me a straigh

Winseer:
Think of how many people must have laughed their sandals off when Noah built his ark miles inland

Especially the fishermen who knew how to build boats and used them nearly every day except in bad storms.

You chose some of the most contraversial passages from the Bible and I can look at each one on the merits, some of them before the new covenant and the others ,I would have to look at the context in which they were written .
But before I do that,I wondered what your aim was because either believe it is the inspired word of God or you dont.If you dont believe it is the inspired word of God,you can simply cast the book away, never read it again,no one is forcing you to ever talk to a Christian again or step foot in a church. You live in a completley free country where you can choose any religion or none at all.
Maybe you want to punish Christians for the pain you went through but as much Im sorry to hear what pain it has caused you ,its not my fault personally and I dont run my family under oppresion. They are free to do what they want within reason and I dont drag anyone to church, its voluntary choice

But the Bible for Christians is good news if you want a personal relationship with God through His son Jesus Christ who is the only mediator between God and man.
The old testament verses were the law but Jesus came to call sinners because we cant keep the law.We cant abide by those hard rules so Jesus established the New Covenant.
Now,from a man point of view, not seeking God isnt considered a big deal, but we arent the centre of creation. It doesnt revolve around us.God is at the centre of everything and the world and universe is created for His glory, not ours.

But if you pick up the Bible and only search for faults and contraversial passages ,you arent getting any benefit. It reminds me when the Doctor told me I had cancer.I asked him how long I had and he said 5 years, thats it,youre done, but by the way ,there is a new tteatment that might cure it but it is still relativley new. So,I opted for this but there other doctors who expressed an opinion that this tteatment wasnt effective and the treatment was so invasive,it might be worse than the disease, but I didnt want to know.I wanted hope so I ignored the negatives and told them to crack on with it.I wanted it cuted and lucky enough ,it worked.I wasnt going to look too closley at the negative side to it.And so the same with you looking at the Bible. Is it just a completley bad thing or is it a book of hope for you.But only you can decide this.If you want to be a Christian, you have to weigh up the cost first.

Winseer.
Very intresting what you wrote. Its funny,I used to wonder if we were in the last days, but now,in our church,it’s considered a given,we are there without much doubt

Not particularly bothered. But I hope the democrats lose.

No surprises there seeing that Stephen Lee, one of your Pastors, is tied to the intimidation of election workers and one of the “criminal enterprise” crew charged in Georgia for trying to overturn the 2020 US presidential election.

I dont know this pastor but it looks like he is a lutheran. My opinion on lutherans. It was a step in the right direction but it didnt take things far enough away from the roman traditions.
So,I wouldnt join a lutheran church but Im not knocking them though

If you’re killed, it is usually 100% fatal.

And the 2023 TN quote of the year in the ‘‘No sh Sherlock’’ category, goes to…

So in spite of everything you have said so far, you actually pick & choose the parts of the Bible that suit you ■■

And whilst, as you say, every word in the Bible is the word of God, you can ignore the parts that don’t suit your agenda.

So you’re dead, and now a floating spirit in the sky… You can go anywhere you like, just by imaginging yourself going towards that object in the distance…

So… Wheredya go?

A whole lot of you out there, I’d suggest couldn’t navigate around a dozen named stars in the night sky.
Does that mean you’d get lost as surely as a trucker who has no sat nav nor low bridge roadmap?

Now imagine I fancied going towards the light, instead of the darkness…

I’m likely to find myself at some star system with no idea what I’ll find there, but more likely to find something there than if I went to some blackened burned out cinder of a planet in a dead and dark system…

It’s one thing to “See the Light”. Quite another to have the instinct to move towards it.

There’s not much that can be done for people left behind, because the proof that the saved were right all along - would BE being left behind.

Don’t scoff at the concept: It is possible to be brought back well beyond the usual 4 minutes it usually takes the brain to die off after heart and respiration ceases…

“Cold” lenghthens the time, meaning that acute hypothermia can make bringing someone back a lot easier as well, as depicted in the film “The Abyss”…

These two clips are from the same powerful scene, that also demonstrates the sheer power of “Faith” even if it is in Science and Medical know-how rather than God.

It isn’t correct to say “being killed is always 100% fatal” then, and i rest my case M’lud… “Usually” does quite nicely. There are no guarantees in death as well as life. :grimacing:

Some other people’s experiences of that ■■■■■■ of Death between heart stopping, and being revived…

Once you establish a relationship with God it becomes easier to deal with sin.

So how do you “establish a relationship” with a fictional character?

Please let me know, I could seriously go for a relationship with Barbarella, or Natasha Romanoff

No,absolultley not.The Bible is all in agreement with itself, even though it was written over hundreds of years. But compare that any subject you would discuss today. If you asked 10 experts, you willl get different points of view.Jesus was predicted to be born 600 years before in the book of Isaiah. How do you explain that?

As an example, how would 10 experts have different points of view regarding these texts ■■

Luke 19:27
But as for these enemies of mine, who did not want me to reign over them, bring them here and slaughter them before me.

Leviticus 20:10 ESV /
If a man commits adultery with the wife of his neighbor, both the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

There is considerable doubt about the translation(s) which led to ‘Virgin’ being used as opposed to ‘Young Woman or Girl’

(Isaiah 7:14) “Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel”

Now, Monty Python could be correct and in fact, Immanuel is another name for Brian rather than Jesus H.

Why exactly are we continuing to indulge our demented fellow TN member?

Are any of us going to succumb to this nonsense? Pretty sure we aren’t.

Are we performing a service to the wider world by concentrating all his evangelical twistedness in cyberspace, so that innocent members of the general public can be saved from the unwanted attentions of a maniacal preacher?

I can’t help thinking that by giving Sploomy something to fight against we are actually encouraging him in his self-appointed mission to “save all the sinners of the world”.

He isn’t going to stop this one man crusade of his own accord.

Maybe he’s on a percentage of all ‘gullibles’’ lured in.Dont forget a percentage of the so called ‘‘donations’’ goes to fund the '‘lifestyle’'of the elders.
