I have no children I’m usually too busy strapping a load, late home from work and then no chance of any baby making with the mrs

This is possibly the scariest sight I have seen on the road in my entire life. It certainly is the most unprofessional…
Probably drives a curtainsider
I cannot see why they would waste their time putting one strap over it, probably the reason why they have to have securing policies in the steelworks
thats a good point about curtainsider as its only a major issue if you can see it!!
has the driver had a drop a short distance away and thought he would save a bit of time by nipping down the road to the next drop?
I’m out,
Don’t want to hang around this too long I think it’s catching

If it loaded and secured basically on its own weight and you’re aware of this and drive it accordingly its never gonna come off.“No mate, it’ll never move. It weighs 70 tonnes, nothing is going to shift that!”
I’m sure you’re trying to give me a message i’ll understand, but i’m not getting it? How is what appears to be a top heavy loco loaded on a trailer comparable to some flat plates of steel ?
Actually, you’re a good example of the ■■■■ physics and go with the law brigade. Steel plate cannot fall, a loco can, get a grip !!!

2 accidents is reason enough for me to take every precaution possible, I will not get into a banter over it though, I believe it’s unsafe, you believe what you want

Hang on a minute, you google for some stats, post them and say you don’t want to get into a banter over it?
Well while you’re believing what you want, you can believe that if you over load a tipper/bulker and its top heavy and it falls over and kills someone when you take a bend to fast not only will you not be done for it but there is no legislation in place to prevent it happening. Same with double deckers, many are dangerously top heavy and very prone to fall over (as they do) yet still no legislation to protect ‘you and your loved ones’. Shocking eh? Infact they’re more accident prone than that flat trailer of steel plate we’re debating !!
There’s a lot of injustices in the world ,
point is and always was you said that load was fine, there’s 2 examples of STEEL that fell off,
■■■■ happens, even when you take every precaution but why tempt fate and take the ■■■■ by deliberately trying to take on physics or are you one of these keyboard warriors that has simply disagreed for an evenings entertainment.
The more straps, the less careful they drive
People drive at each others bumper because they have ABS
They drive fast in the snow because they have a 4x4
They drive as an idiot because they have strapped or chained it and it will be alright.
People who have worked in Carara Italy probaly remember the trucks coming down out the mountains with 15 ton blocks of marble on a flatbed (1 or 2) never a ■■■■■■■■ them, they have been doing that for 40 years. Never a problem.
Drove many stuff in a tilt lose 7 ton granit blocks without as a piece of string on it.
But there is something in the driving, emergency stops are made because you did not look ahead, didn’t keep enough distance, drove to fast etc.
A little defensive driving is quickly learnt when you have a load thet can move, the boys who drive tankers and hanging meat probaly can tell you a thing or 2 about that.
That load doesn’t scare me one second, but the person who wasn’t taking attention to the traffic but instead to this load, scares the hell out of me.

You’re in the discussion or out of it. Don’t go off on a tangent and ask me if i’m a keyboard warrior. I am, but thats by the by. You don’t seem to clued up to me, but thats by the by too.
I’m saying i don’t see the drama in the load shown. It certainley does not seem as dangerous as some other ‘legal’ loads to me.

You’ve said what i was trying to say in a lot less words and a bit more prescise too !!

Good post and I agree. That’s basically what the point I was trying to get across in my replies in the ‘do you straps your loads’ thread.

Probably very true BUT as proffessional drivers shouldn’t we do it right. strap it right and drive accordingly in case there’s a good photo op
This driver is crazy! he is a menace and if caught should have had licences suspended at least

Are you on drugs?
No, I’m not with the ‘law brigade’.
“Steel plate cannot fall”; if ever there was a justification for the DCPC then this statement is it.
Have you ever had to hold a drivers mouth open so that he could breath while tons of steel plate crushed his neck against the windscreen of his cab? Junc Crawford Street and Baker Street, London W1 1978. The driver had driven all of 100yds from a building site, braked for traffic lights and had the whole load shift, take out the trailer headboard and come into the cab. He ■■■■■■ and ■■■■ himself and asked for his mum. Getting a grip? Yeah, I think I was.
Living near Sheffield I’ve seen how the real drivers chain their load of steel. Nothing to do with ‘the law’. Basic common sense.
Shhh…Don’t argue with a moderator. You’ll get silly PM’s sent to you.

Your right I may not be very clued up and fresh into the industry but I know when common sense should be used, and on a load like that someone who felts on gravity and gods good will should deal with a rope and gravity and deal with there god wether they was right or not
Ok… As a professional driver, I wouldn’t dream of taking a picture with anything other than a hands free device…Therefore I have committed no offence.
Straps on steel are fine to use, in fact the British Steel load security regulations specify straps, Chains are only to be used when specified… Chains can damage the product.
Whether chains or straps should have been used on this load is immaterial…The point is this muppet has taken a load of 4 independent stacks of 4 packs per stack onto a public highway without securing this load. Illegal, Dangerous and irresponsible beyond comprehension. I don’t claim to be perfect, but I sure aint that stupid.
I move somewhere in the region of 300 tonnes of steel per week, as part of my job for the biggest steel haulier in the midlands, and one of the biggest in the country ( as claimed on the company website ) I aint used a chain for over 2 years now, and - touch wood- I aint lost a load yet. - ever .
This picture had been seen by somebody with a bigger mouth than mine,. and will be brought to the attention of those who need to know on monday. Personally I don’t give a monkeys if anybody thinks I’m a bad person for grassing on another driver… That could be my kids he kills if I were daft enough to keep my mouth shut.
"This was precisely why Regulation 100 (section 2) of the Construction & Use Regulations 1986 was amended in 1988 to say that ’ All loads must be physically secured, more than by their own weight’

Common sense has gone out of the window on this thread
I carried a fair bit of steel in my time, all kinds, rsj,s plate, coil, and were ever possible i always used chains.straps unless well protected were no use for obvious reasons.
regards dave.
What kind of handsfree camera takes pictures handsfree? Do you have to say something to make it work? is it mounted on the dash? What with/how etc? I wouldn’t mind one but can’t understand how it would work handsfree?
