Fair play Lucy it maybe ok for a new driver to gain experience, we all been there and i agree learn a lot better in some small outfits than you do with a lot of bigger outfits. Well unless that small company is teaching you how to run bent lol
But then again a lot of these small companies are barely making a profit because of the competition and higher UK diesel prices.
But in reality your working for as you say one of the best payers in the north east, if your job went pear shaped tomorow would you be happy to go work for someone paying £5.73 an hour minimum wage ?
Whats worse that same person on here bragging about how much money he is earning. A lot of it sounds BS to me to be honest, its prob a couple of corgie trucks he has.
Do you really think you would be a valued employee or just an exploited worker.
If experienced drivers go out and work for minimum wage doing class 1 work they will get the industry they deserve and only have themselves to blame. If this is a true offer of work leave it to the newbies to trash his trucks for him and ramp up his insurance premiums.
I wouldnt drive a HGV for minimum wage rather drive a transit van for £6.50 p/h or as i said before deliver pizza for £6 p/h making £3-£4 an hour in tips.
It been said by a select few, but I will echo it gumbo, well done for actively recruiting someone, admittedly everyone is moaning about the minimum wage, but they’re not applying so why does it matter, and as you said once the rough gets going you’d be looking to increase the wage structure, good luck with it all and make a success of it so you can come back and gloat in a few months time haha! Merry Xmas
Thank you Macka Packa, I thought I was the only one, you got it in a nutshell, I can’t believe there are so many on here who are willing to sell themselves short, whinging"it’s better than the dole" well it might be , but it just brings the job down even lower, blokes have stood on picket lines and the like to get a decent wage, who had mortgages too!! just for this generation to throw it all away, well that’s my rant.
its a discrace to be paid that sort of money. but at the end of the day if you got people that are prepared to work for that amount of money then you have to blame them. they are the ones that are pushing the price down there is no way on the face of this earth that i will drive for that.
sorry to say and this is going to offend a lot of people on here, why are you working for that sort of money with that sort of responsabilty, a lot on here has been out of work for ages chasing jobs that pay crap WHY DO IT?
why dont you go get a job as a cleaner that pays more ! no responsabilties !
anyone can be a cleaner !
sorry to offend but thats my opinion. no jobs in driving… do something else for a short while untill it picks up. you cant live on social for long.especialy if you got kids a morgage, car to run, the list goes on.
but to drive a truck for a living for £5 odd per hour you must be mad and you got no one else to blame, no one is forcing you to drive for that sort of money
I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who applied for the job.to name a few, the position has now been filled new employee starts on the 6/1/09
Why did you feel that it was necessary to make public the list of people who applied? What happened to confidentiality? You have acted like a complete ■■■■ at other people’s expence, no doubt you are charming in real life , best of luck to your new driver, got a feeling they r gonna need it!

What he said ! Very professional gumbo. If you’re not on the level and this is some elaborate wind up then you are a sick puppy.
If you are on the level then you’ve just humiliated these other users on a public forum, so you’re still a sick puppy.

IS there abit of green monster here or wot
Why would there be, i earn a lot more than £5.73 p/h
I used get a better rate per mile running a motorbike in the 1990’s when fuel was cheaper than it is now than a lot of people get these days running a HGV.
I can honestly say ive no jeolously of anyone running their own truck, maybe once upon a time owning my own truck would have been an ambition but its certainly not these days, i prefer the easy life.
gumbo talks ■■■■■■■■ i asked because as i said i thought it might be all flash no cash the relised that he posted a picture of his truck as for the others i have no idea if they asked him for a job the way he acts on here i dont think it will be to long till his new driver gives him a slap

It does seem more than a little insensitive to post such details on an open forum. I guess it does at least show that there are people who are willing to work out of a sense of pride, even if the rate for the job is disgraceful for the UK in the 21st century.
It is about time we had a separate minimum wage for a profession such as HGV driving. After all, the legislators are quick to burden us with all kinds of restrictions and requirements. If this minimum were applied all over Europe, it might help to cure cabotage to some degree.
I must be doing something wrong here if thanking people and wishing them a merry Xmas is looked down upon as talking ■■■■■■■■ then i apologize.
I didn’t realize it was top secret to PM someone
What I don’t understand is why you aren’t offering an hourly rate more in line with industry norms. Are you not anticipating getting a typical rate for the work you will be doing? I’m inclined to think you will end up getting the types of bloke who have been sacked by everybody else in the area because they are no good.
