i would nt drive a hgv for that. you pay me minimum wage i will do a job that involved minimum responsibility, minimum danger. not driving 40+ tonnes of metel round the country
macka packer you are right, why not do something else or there is the dole. i dont get people in this country. its either be on benefits all your life state parasite, or “im proud im never signed on” crew
newsflash!, did you know why the welfare state was created? its so you are out of work for a bit you can get some money in until you find another job. so use it as such no need to get expoited thru desparation
Just be gratefull we have minimum wage.
By the looks of some of these post
some would probably do it for £5.00 p/h
Thinking they are great men,
but in fact they are dragging everyone else down with them.
and their argument would be. If i worked 60 hrs at £5 p/h Washed and toileted at service stations, Used the heater in my cab to dry my clothes, used the cigarette lighter plug to watch t.v I would save lots of money

Joshh not having a go mate but something is better than nothing is not always true, the individual advertising this job is trying to be funny in that case ha, ha,ha, or he is being serious, if he is he is taking the ■■■■ big time.
When I started doing this job in1989 I worked for Archbold Distribution driving a 17 ton Ford Iveco on the Magnet joinery contract and my wage with a Sunday runout was £315 a week.
He is playing on the fear of younger men with kids/mortgage that they would be better of with this than nothing, or kids like you desperate to get that first start, he will turn up in his new bmw or four wheel drive, and watch you climb into a ten year old shed with minimum maintenance, do 5 nights out while hes down the pub with his mates, hell tell them about you over his large whisky, AND LAUGH HIS OFF.
I have seen and heard them.

No i am not having a laugh, I have just started up and set my sights at max 5 trucks i have 2 on the go at the moment and will be putting another one on Jan 09.

Its the old saying learn to walk before you try to run .
£5.73 ph average hours 48 = £275 .04 then there’s POA /work it out for yourself FRIDGE WORK.

No i wont be in the pub to busy earning dosh and yes i have had a lot of reply’s
Good luck with it…as for why is he paying that much read the news especially
the industry magazines you will see businesses going under left right and centre
give the man a break…have you ever run a business in this cliamate and made a profit paying £8 an hour,or worse paying agencies a few quid an hour on top of that too,if so your advice would be welcomed by many a company who is about to go under.
there may be the odd exception but customers screwing rates to the floor, fuel prices etc etc has changed hings.its sad but the bubble has finally burst as the customers themselves are going down like flies leaving less work about.
Gumbo, I am just curious as to know what area you are from? Is that about the same as what others are paying or are you hoping to get some people thru the door, that are willing to give you the benefit of the doubt.
Are you going to backdate the pay-rise■■?
Good on you if you make it work, but that wage really is diabolical!!!
Also just curious as to the trucks you operate, is it bling bling hope the guys prefer big shiny ones to a nice healthy wallet?
All flash no cash my thoughts as well but surely not if he just started out as that defeat the purpose…
You say theres a min wage + POA etc but I dont understand this?? Surely the driver will get paid for the time his card is in? Wether its driving, other work POA or in the toilet doing a crap?
As for free meals at services? Arent they just reduced from £15 to £7 when you pay £20 to park?
People are right, you will get someone, prob some rough jakie or someone whose just by there test looking for expernce, or maybe you’ll be lucky to get an old timer whose looking for sweetie money?? But in this day/age min wage wont pay inflating mortgages, council taxes, insurances, cars, xmas’s etc etc…

Blunder Man: I did work it out, you are taking the ■■■■.
What did you quote for the job 20p per mile? it will soon be 2009 mate not 1969.
And saying it’s fridge work, I,e, easy makes no difference.
here here bob that rate is dire, if you get someone to do it make sure they leave some oats for their horse and take of their spurs before they get in the cab.
its not even all flash and no cash… its just no cash.
what we all need to remember is what goes around comes around and when we coe out of this recession (cos lets face it thats what it is not a blooming credit crunch!) these companies will want decent drivers like us and we can all say up yours!! so bide your time boys…
What the problem I feel as if i am being ganged up on here have i done something wrong by creating a job for someone
There is nothing wrong with my attitude its you lot MOAN MOAN MOAN you all think the world owes you a living .
