£5.73 an Hour Fridges! Is it April already!

Macka Packa:
There are hundreds of cleaning jobs at the jobcentre,
and they offer £6.50 PLUS,

Any reason why you wont take one ?

Instead of playing the martyr here, phone 10 cleaning
companies and you,ll be working next week.

i,m sick of hearing people moaning saying i,ve phoned all the transport companies etc…
If theres no work in this sector, change sector till opportunities improve,
or are all driver full of hot air, :unamused:

I have class 1 , but currently drive sprinter van and if driving fails,
i,ll hoover carpets at night for £6.75p/h

If I have to I’ll work for whatever

£5.73 x 40 = 4 times job seekers from the uab.
overtime ■■ £5.73 x 60 = 6 times job seekers

ok its poor but if its a way of paying the bills then so be it,if this is all companies
can afford to pay in future its something that must be gotten used to if we aint happy with it get hoovering!

don’t forget to take your tax off those figures. You people who would work for that need a good chat with yourselves. If employers read this forum then god help us. Pass the Hoover.

If it puts food in your belly and keeps the wolfs from the door…don’t knock it!!

Christ, how can you say that wage will keep the wolves away■■?

Seriously do you think that wage would pay ALL your bills, put food in your belly and beer in yours!!!■■?

I REALLY do hope it is a wind-up, cos if it ain’t then I fear that there will be some companies that will try to bring their wages down…BUT I would think the Majority of firms understand that Drivers will not stand for it…

You lot must have got this jobs & low wages thing all wrong because Fugu has had this recent E-mail from Pathway LGV training :unamused: -

Fugu:
Latest email from Pathway…

Dear Friend

In these difficult economic times doesn’t it make sense to finally recession proof your career and give yourself the peace of mind you deserve?
Today with a serious skills shortage still plaguing the Road Haulage industry, the demand for HGV drivers has never been greater despite the deep recession now upon us. If anything the demand today is even more acute.
Qualified HGV drivers with a Class C+E license can now earn upwards of £31,000 a year. And all it takes just 5 days of training.

Moreover if you further boost your HGV qualifications with additional skills such as ADR, Forklift, HIAB etc, through Pathway, you’ll make even more. Everyone knows, for example, that experienced Tanker drivers can earn up to £45,000. In some cases £50,000. So why not you?

You’ll be lucky mate. Trying to get a cleaning job with no experience - particularly for a bloke - is a lot harder than getting a class 1 job with no experience. Your chances are slim and none. And slim just left town.

Clarky, it was only a couple of weeks ago you had us all feeling sorry for you because you couldn’t get a driving job, I dare say you would have taken a job for £5.73/hr if circumstances had turned out differently  thankfully you appear to have come out smelling of roses, well done.

Tiger.

I agree.

I drive a transit for £6 p/h now

I would clean offices for £5.75 p/h

But theres no way i,ll drive 44 tonners , for £5.75

Its like doctors , lawyers , bankers etc…
whilst training or out of work ,
some may take bar jobs etc …
to help pay bills.

But they would never work in their profession for minimum wage.
That would bring the whole profession down,
and they would have nothing to aspire too.

But truckers will do it,
thinking they are real men , because they drive 44 tonners.
Not the fact they are idiots working for £5.75 ,
whilst the Afghan who tips you at the warehouse ,
is on more money , knows when he will get home.

If you want to work for £5.75p/h
Drive a van,

But not 44 tonners , use a bit of common sense :unamused:

You got the wrong Clarky!!

Thankfully I have always had a job, never had to sign on for 12 years, yes I am Lucky, I know that.
When I started doing my class 2, in fact before I started my self funded training, I had a job lined up.

And I would have to be mad to take £5.73 an hour as it would not pay my bills, so would end up in more trouble than having to change career.

Wonder if because of the economic downturn ,
Will pilots start flying for minimum wage
so they can keep experience

Or do they have more sense ,
and realise if it comes down to that ,
they,ll change profession. :unamused:

Maybe we should have a poll ,
to see
How many will drive 44 tonners for £6 p/h ?

And if a large percentage will,
I will give up and become a night security man for the same money,
and open the door for you to unload
whilst i go back and watch tv.

Sorry Clarky, the other Clarky must has disappeared, what happened to him?

Although i personally would not work for that kind of money, and i think its an insult to even offer it, and the advertiser is either getting a very low rate for the job, or hes making a good profit but wants to keep most of that for himself.
There are plenty of people out there who would take it, depending on their circumstances, including foreigners.
I know a lot of people who are foreign to this country, and are willing to work any job in order to make a living.
I know a very good heart specialist nurse, who cannot get a job in our hospital system, but has to make ends meet working in a care home.
I met a ward nurse yesterday, who is also working in a care home.
Both have very good qualifications, and years of experience in their home countries.
I also know of solicitors/lawyers who work as labourers on building sites, i know of truck drivers working as cleaners, so if these people are working beneath themselves in order to survive, then why dont the brits.
The low wage being offered is dependent on someone elses misery or circumstances, and i suppose it goes with the current climate we are in, but at the same time, a situation that should have not happened.
We often hear of very low wages in this industry, and i wonder why we have allowed this to happen, for when i got my first HGV licence, albeit through grandfather rights, i, along with all the others, thought it would change our lives, and our status, but ijn fact it has done the opposite, we are still treated like a low class moron, and until we group together as a whole unit, then it will still be the same in another 20 years, but thank god i`ll be out of it by then.

My point exactly.

They take a lower less skilled job to make a living till
they can find work in their sector.

You dont see a lawyer - working as a lawyer for minimum wage
etc…
Or a surgeon preforming surgery for minimum wage.

they work a less skilled job till they can return to their sector and earn big bucks

So why are hgv drivers scared to leave driving and work in another sector till things improve.

Instead of undercutting each other and
setting us back 10 years

hiya,
well done packa macka you do know what your’e talking about, proud of you son thanks harry long retired.

Lawyer, surgeon, doctor, pilot etc etc they really do compare to a driver
who has comleted 20 hours training mmm not.
nobody is forcing anyone to work for that sort of money but let those who
cannot afford to be choosy make there choice…its ok to say " i would not "
how many of you are unemployed?? not getting all kinds of social security benefits ? threats of reposession ■■
if someone is prepared to get out of the gutter and use as a stepping stone then i for one have a lot of respect for him/her.

I know of a company that pays its drivers £250 per week for six days.
That’s the bit that’s taxed.
But you come out with £550 to £750 per week.
So it’s always worth a chat with the boss.

as drivers if the rate is 5.73 then as long as you get paid all hour worked then this can’t be all that bad as most driver would work around 60 per week that would make the pay 348.80 plus nights out some container drivers only get 65 a day regards hours worked 325 per week if you on a day rate or hour rate you take the job on that

basic as all ways been low in transport and most drivers make up there money with bonuses and nights out and working sat mornings

and if you looking for a job and that’s all that’s out there then if offered take it as work is better than no work at all

Del

omg thats less than half what i earn

i would nt drive a hgv for that. you pay me minimum wage i will do a job that involved minimum responsibility, minimum danger. not driving 40+ tonnes of metel round the country

macka packer you are right, why not do something else or there is the dole. i dont get people in this country. its either be on benefits all your life state parasite, or “im proud im never signed on” crew

newsflash!, did you know why the welfare state was created? its so you are out of work for a bit you can get some money in until you find another job. so use it as such :sunglasses: no need to get expoited thru desparation
