£327 tramping 6 days

I agree with the OP that £327 is not a lot, but its said (on this forum) that the south west pays low wages? or is it? I live in the south west but worked near Basingstoke, a distance of 88 miles from home. I did 5 nights out (every week) and took home around £400/week (well actually it was salaried and around £1,600/month). If I could find a job on my doorstep paying £327/week I would seriously consider it. Times are hard, gone are the days of walking out of one job into the next. Just my opinion for what it’s worth

Hello, I went for interview at Langdons-Transport in Plymouth today, seemed a nice bunch - run out on sunday return friday (no problem with that) I wanted the job, but £327 before tax (21.50 night out allowance)
Do you think I was wrong to say no chance ? :unamused:

Hang on, think this through. They pay £327 max per week. You can only work 48 hours per week? Ok, average. So they don’t pay anymore then you don’t work anymore. It appears you aint going to be doing any less. I’d probably do it, never use POA and only use break when legally required , do your hours and then just get off !!! Just meet any phone call of …no, you can work this or that hours…with yes but i aint paid for it. £327 equates to £6.81 per hour for 48 hours. Minimum wage is £5.93, if that is what they are offering them the hourly total of 55 hours per week might be problematic.

£107.50 of that is night out money which I doubt can be included as part of your wages? That leaves £219.50/£5.93= 37 hours to be worked in order to comply with the minimum wage. Either way it is shocking.

I don’t really have to worry about the wage as i can get family tax credits so wotever i earn is topped right up anyway   . I earn a good wage & get less tax credits, i earn crap wages but come away with the same so either way a win win

Oh, no, these low paid workers from South West are going to drain our social system!!! :grimacing: :grimacing: :grimacing: They should be banned from taking benefits! :grimacing: :grimacing:

Yeah about 4 yrs ago i was out of work for around 4 months so when i started my last job on £22.000 me & my partner put in a claim for family tax credits & we were getting over £400 per month. I think its based on previous yrs earnings which in my case were low. Anyway on top of that i got £30 working tax credit, had just under £20 paid towards the rent, Child benefit & my partner was working part time earning £183 per month so all in all we were doing alright. This yr as i was working all last yr its gone down from £400+ to around £273 & i’ve lost the working tax credit of £30 but my partner is earning slightly more now so can’t complain. Alot of people don’t know about claiming benefits or don’t realise they may be able to claim.

Bloody scroungers. I don’t buy this "there are no decent paying jobs’ crap. I clear off to Spain for three months at the start of the year every year. I can always come back and find work paying around £500 a week, no problem. I came back in april, straight away did 5 or 6 days a week on one of the big parcels companies and for the last 6 weeks i’ve been doing 5 nights a week from 10 until six, 40 hours a week for £540 a week. Too many people want a job paying a load of money on there doorstep where they don’t have to work too hard. No wonder everyone employs the taliban.

If jobs where paying better money, people would’nt have to claim tax credits and the like.
Its companies taking the ■■■■ paying ■■■■ wages knowing that the goverment will “top them up” using the tax credits system. :imp: :imp: :imp:

Its companies taking the ■■■■ paying [zb] wages knowing that the rest of the tax-paying population ie. you and me will “top them up” using the tax credits system.

Fixed that for you.

That is disgracefull :frowning:

How can they justify such low pay ? They are just trying to get young kids who recently passed their test and are cab happy or are trying to attract immigrants.
How can it be that wages are half what they were 10 years ago ?

I take home about £500 a week, and its on my door step. Still drive to work though, im just lazy like that.

I doubt immigrants can be atracted to that job. 327 per week is about 6000 zł per month, this is easily to be earned when working for Polish company on 3+1 basis. And mind you that life in Poland is still cheaper than here.

What’s up with you,you should have taken the ■■■■ job and used their lorry to visit other potential jobs, turning up in a rig shows you can drive, that’s a start. You are also on the road, ear to the ground finding out from other drivers who is hiring, what they are paying and I live in Plymouth and yes wages are lousy down here have been for ever.Try moving.

is it a surprise to any one that sponsor the local basket ball team :unamused:

This is actually very wise post: I did the same when I was working for McLellans Transport - from my day 6 there I carried a file with my CVs all the time

Afraid it’s true mate and i usually drive less than 2 miles per shift and spend 4 or 5 hours sat in the tea room
on the internet or reading the papers and drinking coffee. Have to say, it’s the strangest job i have ever had.

I am not a scrounger thanks, the benefits are there to make peoples life easier. If a lot of companies paid better wages there would be no need to claim the extra benefits would there. whether or not you have managed to find good paying jobs is neither here or there as not everyone is as lucky as you.
If i was to sit on my ■■■ & claim benefits you may be able to call me a scrounger but as i work you can’t really say that :unamused: :unamused:
I can only claim family tax credits etc if i’m working so aslong as im working whats the problem■■?.
Why should i struggle just because i’m on a low wage, if i wasn’t in titled to the benefits then they wouldn’t pay me.

Entitled, don’t you just hate that word. Why should my taxes be used to subsidise your bosses wage bill ?. If your working you should contribute not be claiming benefits. No wonder the country is bleeding skint. It’s all going to end you know, it has to the country can’t afford it any more or we will be in the same position as Greece.

& why should me & my family have to suffer because i have to keep turning down jobs due to bosses paying crap wages. I can’t help crap wages as i would rather work for anything rather then be on the dole. The benefits mean people like me don’t have to struggle on low wages or turn down job after job.
Can’t win with some people…if i turn down job after job & claim benefits i’m a srounger & if i take on a low paid job & get the wage topped up with benefits i’m also wrong. If i turn down job after job due to crap wages how am i supposed to feed my family :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I also pay tax & ni you know

I don’t set the wages!!
