£327 tramping 6 days

Was that just a starter pay and you get an increase after 3 or 6 months?

I thought Langdons would have payed more than that tbh.

I was moaning about low wages a few threads ago, but have to admit I earn more than that after tax per week plus £35 for a night out (if needed) for class II work.

That said, if I was unemployed I would have accepted that money.

It’s not Langdons (fridge work) it’s Langdon Transport, and no, that was what they paid all their drivers

Hello, I went for interview at Langdons-Transport in Plymouth today, seemed a nice bunch - run out on sunday return friday (no problem with that) I wanted the job, but £327 before tax (21.50 night out allowance)
Do you think I was wrong to say no chance ? :unamused:

is that basic  ,how many hours,id guess its basic,so as your tramping youd do a sight more hours than basic[probally 50]+ youd get family credits, family allowances[assuming you have kids]+ in most familes there 2 wages comming in,opposed to years ago.
id off asked one of the lads in yard crac, wages etc,im sure theyd of put you in picture, then made my decision

It wasn’t basic, it was everything - they work on you doing your 90 hours driving a fortnight and having your 45 hours off every week - everyone says it’s what they all pay in the south west

That is taking the ■■■■ on an altogether different scale! If you take your night out money off you’re picking up £198. So you must have a 33 hour week to comply with the minimum wage law. ■■■■■■■ shocking. :smiling_imp:

That’s why I said no, but I’m lucky to have been offered a job taking home 500 after tax  - some poor bloke will have to take the job though - shocking ! :unamused:

Last Saturday my agency booked me in on a shift at Morrisons which turned out to be non-existent. After sitting around for 2 hours they sent me home. The agency paid me 4 hours @ £10.50 hour for which i came out with around £33, take off my travel and it was no worth getting up for. They used to pay 8 hours minimum , is this the sign of things to come?

No this is a sign of what drivers will accept. If enough drivers said no then they would not get away with it.

Better then nowt! I got up one bank holiday for a shift on agency on a bank holiday Monday and my cards were there dated Tuesday…the stupid bint in the office made a mistake as she forgot about b/h and I didn’t get paid owt :unamused:
I left a week later, they couldn’t believe I wouldn’t work a weeks notice as they’d had me booked :unamused:

Could be worse then that. When I was on my first business administration work placement on apprenticeship actually all 3 of my work placements, I worked for nothing.

12 months running back and forth knottingley - eggborough - eggborough - knottingley. £10 a day alone in expenses. And I was working for a rather big glass manufacturer. The big glass factory you can hardly miss it! I never got my expenses paid for   Slave labour! Luckily it was once a week. Not every day or I would have told them to go fourth.

But that does seem crap money especially for tramping!! You could get more on days. and be at home with family

That’s definitely not enough. I had better last week for three days and one night away in a sprinter.

Don’t touch it even with a long stick unless you are really desperate…

the way i first read it £200 after pillage & ■■■■ by this government then add your £21.50 for night’s out , so £200 + £21.50 x 5 = £307.50 approx which is still crap for living in the cab for a week every week, Even for us up in the north west, incidentally i earned more than that working a 9 to 5 in a local factory back in the 80’s but according to this the deductions are less
ListenToTaxman - UK PAYE Salary Tax Calculator 2022 - 2023 £267.79 + n/o = £ 375.00 not much better

But when you live in the real works with a family it doesn’t get much worse then turning up to a day at work and not getting paid when you could of made it somewhere else :unamused:
Don’t patronise me pip squeak :unamused:

I do agree with you on that, I’d be ■■■■■■ off if I worked for nothing like you did. especially if I had things to pay for. Luckily I didn’t. I wasn’t patronising you I was just saying it could be worse  it always could be.

And I’m hardly little at a tad over 6 foot 3 :grimacing: :grimacing:

Hang on, think this through. They pay £327 max per week. You can only work 48 hours per week? Ok, average. So they don’t pay anymore then you don’t work anymore. It appears you aint going to be doing any less. I’d probably do it, never use POA and only use break when legally required , do your hours and then just get off !!! Just meet any phone call of …no, you can work this or that hours…with yes but i aint paid for it. £327 equates to £6.81 per hour for 48 hours. Minimum wage is £5.93, if that is what they are offering them the hourly total of 55 hours per week might be problematic.

Mike, do you really think they would keep any driver that did what you suggest

here you go fill your boots

No mate, you’re right. But if i was desperate and had nothing to lose then i’d do it. Whats the worst that could happen, you’d lose a tribunal?

well if thats what they all pay in the southwest how have you suddenly got a job paying 500 p.w take home

I was wondering that very point myself. If all that was taxable, then you are looking at around £33,000pa. Can’t see that down that way.
