Last Saturday my agency booked me in on a shift at Morrisons which turned out to be non-existent. After sitting around for 2 hours they sent me home. The agency paid me 4 hours @ £10.50 hour for which i came out with around £33, take off my travel and it was no worth getting up for. They used to pay 8 hours minimum , is this the sign of things to come?
Hell fire, when I was on agency it was10 hours.
Is this a serious wage ? 327 week ? I was making 395 a week on Fed Ex in 1994, has money dropped so much ? I was also earning 500 minimum a week in 1999. what the hell has happened FFS ?
It’s typical of the crap money on offer down here in the West Country.
Give the government a chance to improve things.
Cameron has only been PM for less than 12 months.
IT WAS POSTED IN 2011 FFS!!!
Wonder what the wage survey will reveal…?..
Franglais:
Wonder what the wage survey will reveal…?..
As drivers regularly exaggerate how much they get paid, the survey could well indicate a highly paid profession - employers will then be looking to cut wages. a shot-in-the-foot comes to mind.
Poorly paid workers often add to their pay when asked, very well-paid individuals usually downplay their earnings - I wonder what the median is.

Im sure you
re correct. The survey is a brave effort, but it`s a self selecting sample, so lower paid may not participate. And of course some may put in false data, but it does seem to be as good as a voluntary survey can expect to be. And being confidential and online, as opposed to in the pub at closing time may make it less susceptible to bragging.
And I keep seeing there is a driver shortage over there, it’s no wonder with pay rates like these, must be just young cab happy kids and immigrants taking these jobs.
Bang on the money Pat. Mainly the immigrants, but also a few of the all flash no cash brigade. I was talking to a guy at truckfest, who had a truck his boss had spent 25k on, and he let it slip he was on £100 a day before tax. I wouldn’t get out of bed for that, and it’s ■■■■■ like him who leave me a hard task to justify why I’m into blinged up trucks, because they don’t believe me when I tell them my wages are amongst the best in the container game

It’s not Langdons (fridge work) it’s Langdon Transport, and no, that was what they paid all their drivers
I would imagine they don’t have any drivers left!

Dodgy Dave’s Selfservatives may have only been in office in name for 12mths but he and cronies have been running the show with the dims coalition for 5 years before that , Before that New Labour AKA Tory lite ,They all care about nothing other than themselves ,and Dodgy wants the uk to remain in the EU for this cheap labour to keep wages low, So there’s no chance of any reversal happening unless we leave the EU

My very first driving job was a 4 on 4 off 7.5t job for £300 per week salary and I thought that was accepting peanuts to get a foot on the ladder. £327 for class 1 over 6 day is just shocking on a whole new level, even 5 years ago. No wonder wages are so buggered if drivers were/are accepting that.
With inflation so low, wages have hardly budged since 2011 anyways - so these wages appear even more crap if they are still that now - which appears likely… The night out money hasn’t gone up really either has it?

Mate.
…as you rightly say, and on reflection, he has only been PM around 12 months, if you ignore the Coalition govt.
Thing is though, I was being ironic, by replying to an o/p from 2011,… from a 2011 perspective. !
So even though you were right in a way, it is still.a bit of a WOOOOSH moment.
I’ll try much harder next time.
The wage being offered is disgusting, they are trying to make it look reasonable with the nights out…no one has thought yet that come holiday time, you will have 2 weeks off in the summer, with a paltry wage minus tax and insurance, I would be surprised if you could afford a holiday, let alone take one !
I don’t care where in the country anyone is, a loaf of bread costs the same, so the rates shouldn’t reflect where the company is based, no wonder this industry is in trouble, how can they justify such low rates, imagine an owner driver, looking for a back load from the west country to London or the south, do you think he could do that job for low rates, better than someone who lives in the west, no of course not, its better to run back empty than waste time loading and unloading.
All wage rates should be quoted as £ ■■■…nights out are on top, to give a driver home comforts whilst he is away, but I am surprised how many drivers tell you theyre on £500 a week take home for 6 days work, without disclosing that nights out are included. but, some hauliers pay a decent wage ( one recently in Northfleet guaranteed £600 take home for mon - fri ) on average the job doesn’t pay near enough what a driver is worth, considering what he has to put up with on a daily basis, and the amount of hours he has to put in, but its not going to change is it ?

Well if on the dole, i still wouldn’t consider getting out of bed for that low amount of money it’s a ■■■■ take
Hello, I went for interview at Langdons-Transport in Plymouth today, seemed a nice bunch - run out on sunday return friday (no problem with that) I wanted the job, but £327 before tax (21.50 night out allowance)
Do you think I was wrong to say no chance ?
If you can afford to turn it down - then you were right. At the moment, I would probably take a similar offer, but I am severely in the ■■■■
You don’t have to take any work that undervalues you (in YOUR opinion) unless you are desperate. And you don’t have to worry about what others think of you, either
I was lucky to have been offered a better paid job yesterday, but it’s tramping on nights, so I thought I’d see what they were offering ! I would have to travel fifty miles to get there and wouldn’t be able to afford it ! I just wondered if many of us mugs earnt this little for what we go through
