Big john dont brag about being able to put your rates up when the price of fuel goes up,your customer may easy find some one else,…I would
I’m Big Jon’s Dad. Big Jon is a truck driver in Canada.
I am not bragging, just stating a different veiwpoint.
My customers are free to choose whoever they wish to do their work. They could choose you if they thought you were offering a better price for the same job. As things stand enough customers don’t choose to look elsewhere, leaving me with a waiting list of service customers.
If anyone fancies going into competition with me, for a fee, I will train them to do the work. I will be retiring in about 10 years so my business will be for sale if anyone is interested in a career change and wants to buy a readymade business.

We’re seeing exactly the results of that type of thinking now which is why the country is in the zb.Except that unlike the 1970’s we’ve now got the worst of all worlds in which the shopkeepers and the government still think that they’ve got carte blanche to charge whatever they like for their services and taxes while wage levels are kept well below the (true) rate of inflation in the economy so the result is stagnation and recession.
But I’m not surprised that you don’t want to allow any comparisons with the cost of fuel in the US because they know that if Brit levels of fuel costs, and the resulting inflation they cause, were applied to the US economy the place would sink and take the global economy down with it.
Sorry, old chap, I’m simply not getting into a class war debate with you. If you are so jealous of us “shopkeepers” that it eats you up, perhaps you chose the wrong career path.

Besides, there has NEVER been a fuel protest of this magnitude in the UK. This is going to make the previous fuel protests look tiny. You wait and see
Errrrrmmmmmm what happened at the last “Biggest Fuel Protest” just about 4 or 5 weeks ago, 1000’s were on Facebook saying they were going, at 1 point there was talk of it being cancelled because the police thought they might not cope but decided to let it go ahead, and all 9 protesters turned up and 3 of those were kids PMSL
Good luck to them but the above TRUE scenario shows, never brag about something going to be big until its over with

Not class war or jealousy it’s just that we’ve already seen what happened the last time that we let a shop keeper’s daughter run the economy,on the basis of zb’ing up the wealth creating industrial base,so that a few middle men and profiteers could make a few extra bob, which they did’nt even need,at the cost of the rest of the economy and it’s workers doing the real productive work.
hello all.
Reading the response in the sunday express today from the RHA regarding the proposed fuel protests it makes me wonder why hauliers bother to be members of it,The spokeswoman says it would be a lot better to lobby your MP than to take direct action,What planet is this woman on, What have hard pressed hauliers been doing all these years, enough is enough, lets have a little bit of discomfort of no grub in the shops. If the industry took a stand and stuck to it then maybe something will be achieved and remember its not just an haulage issue regarding the cost of fuel its also affecting the working man and woman. As for the RHA they are all OK while there are trucks on the road their coffers will be continued to be topped up irrespective of the price of juice.

totaly agree to much negativity within the industry
It would be interesting to hear from Bewick about the RHA. Did he join to get his jollies in Martinique or a few quid off his tyres. Did he join at all?
Many lorries had the RHA applique on the cabs, did they join just to be able to use their conditions of carriage?
RHA for the Road Haulier
FTA for the Freight Forwarders
TGWU or URTU for the Drivers

Apparently the Major members of the RHA get cheaper fuel? Tis a rumour I heard. Anyone heard anything similar?
Theres going to be bikers, hauliers, farmers and plain old members of the public taking part in this, numbers are up to about 1000 now!! This is going to be HUGE.

Yahoo news: Around 100 vehicles took part in a go-slow on motorway routes in North Wales and the North West of England before converging on the giant refinery at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire.

A spokesman for Shell, which runs Stanlow, said the site had not been blockaded by the demonstrators. He added: “The protest today has had no effect on operations.”

Actually I got caught up in it I had done a delivery to Aldi Middleton and pulled into the services on the M62 for my 45 and the truck park was heaving with police etc they had cordoned off a small section and there was 1 arctic unit about 15-20cars and the same amount of bikers,at first I didnt realise what was going on as they were just standing about talking and drinking coffee as my 45 was coming to a end things started to happen police cars started moving engines started and then the penny dropped when banners were opened demanding fuel cuts…jeez I started up moved out to get in fron of them …to late was stopped by Mr Plod and had to wait while they set off at least I had a ringside view as I was first in the queue behind them all…reckon they were outnumbered by the amount of Police…Hato all shepherding them along and so we crawled at roughly 20-25mph along the M62 joined the M6 heading south and they finally went on there merry way when they turned off onto the A56…cost me an hour but was getting paid for it and was saving the firm some fuel hey ho…
At least you could move, when France did a strike in the past, the whole country ground to a halt, non of this pc correct sissy go slow protest,if a truck went passed a blockade, you would get the tyres cut or the windscreen thrown in with a brick, they would set fire to the road with a pile of old tyres, many on here will back me up how the French carry out direct action, some did try go off the main routes,by the country lanes to get up for the ferry.
Most drivers would use it as some time off,and drive in to a blockade, and ring the boss to say they were stuck,a few days off with some beers or wine, camaradie with other foreign drivers was the order of the day,and you lot in the uk get a silly little ■■■■■■ that makes the local rag for the day,joe public aint interested.

So that is another one less, because I bet they counted you in their damp squib protest
Im still quite happy about the protest, its still raised a lot of awareness and Im sure the next one will be bigger again Im not expecting things to change overnight but there were several tankers held up for several hours at stanlow, regardless of what the newspapers said. The guys who were running the protest really bigged it up a bit much but it doesnt stop here, nobodys going home saying “Ah well we tried and failed”. This is just the start, theres a lot more in the pipeline.
