the tanker driver was 100% to blame. the cyclist clearly was riding defensively IE checking all cross roads even though he had right of way the tanker simply didn’t see the cyclist and if he had killed him wouldn’t have known a thing about it till he finished his run and had to clean the gory bits up, scary isn’t it.
Looks to me like the tanker driver just didn’t see the Lycra clad mushroom headed moron on the childs toy. I doubt very much that there was any malice involved, but the guy was very lucky not to get hurt.
So, lessons to be learned…instead of spending your money on fancy head cams and skin tight clothes best left in the ■■■ department, save it up and buy a car.
Oh, and while we’re on the subject…as this country is in the finacial toilet at present, isn’t it about time that these two wheeled freeloaders were Taxed and Insured, it’s a rich revenue stream which has as yet been untapped.
Highlander:
Just been looking at the comments on that cyclists forum, and one of them posted this. The tanker drivers view of that junction.Could it be possible that the road sign hid the cyclist from view?
maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=g64+4la … 00862&z=20
That’s a very good point! It’s not unusual to find signs that are just the wrong height for us in trucks thereby obscuring other road users.

It makes a good reason for slowing down at junctions then.
Typical actions of a fuel tanker driver on bonus

Indeed! Have complained on here about tanker drivers chasing the money.
Wander OT slightly. It’s amazing how much road furniture you see thats supposed to improve safety, yet compromises it because no thoughts to trucks have been given.
The one that springs to my mind, is a traffic light camera on the B’ham New Road just off J2 of the M5, which when I’m in my Wagon is perfectly placed to obscure the traffic light your approaching!
Right I have looked at this video again…Why did the bike not look to his near side,he did have a couple of looks to his right, why was he not in the bike lane, when the bike entered the r ,about he did not look to his right maybe to check that another dope on a bike was flying round.I DO KNOW THE TANKER DRIVER WAS NEGLIGENT, BUT WHEN YOU TAKE TO THE ROAD ALWAYS ALLOW ANOTHER DRIVER TO MAKE A MISTAKE THAT WAY YOU CAN BE READY FOR IT. why didnt the stupid fool on the bike ask himself, I am going quick here I WONDER IF HE HAS NOTICED ME. By the way I do like firemen but not those who drive trucks then fiddle their hours out of greed.I think if ROG were to post he would blame both but explain it better

Try and say that to him on any of his YT videos and he will just bleet on about how he does pay tax for it ie his income tax. The guy’s a prick.

Because he knows that if he charges on through and someone pulls out, he can have a hissy fit for the camera and get all excited about the thought of putting the video up on youtube. I bet you anything he DID see the tanker in the corner of his eye and hoped that the driver wouldn’t see him. He probably planned on stopping just in time. Shame it backfired on him when the trailer nearly creamed him. Sorry but this guy simply goes out of his way to cause trouble. Maybe it turns him on, I dunno.
I blame the ■■■■■■ driver. The rule is give way to traffic on your right.Where I drive I sometimes meet idiots negotiating roundabouts with horses.I would do my utmost not to harm the noble animal, but the double barreled toffee nosed riders .

Neither do certain cars. VW Polo Blue motion, theres a Seat Ibiza thats the same, aswell as other cars. Why dont you start your focus on these aswell
If the car makes under 35g of co2 per km then its free road tax.
As for insurance, i have it through the CTC.
Or will you and other people that bleat on about cyclists paying road tax just ignore this?
I do cycle but I would object to pay road tax because most time I ride on the pavment, when I do go on the road I GIVE ALL ROAD USERS RESPECT, unlike the prick in the video
Bicycles are OK for children, if as an adult you choose to ride on the road, you ought to contibute. The argument that a bicycle causes little or no damage to the road is irrelevant as the tax charged on cars isn’t ring fenced to be used exclusively on the roads. As for insurance, you as a CTC member and therfore insured are in a huge minority. Grow up, cease being a danger to all other legitimate road users, get on the bus if your skint or preferably buy a car .
Steve-o:
Magnatom is a complete ■■■■■■ and goes out his way to cause trouble. Just watch his other videos. Half the time the incidents could be avoided but that doesn’t make good youtube videos, does it?
Agreed, he used to be on a bus drivers forum and he used to wind them up no end, he is a complete and utter ■■■■■

Ok, first off you talk rubbish in the first bit. Read what i say again.
VW Polo Blue Motion and some Seat Economic or whatever does not pay road tax, with a few other cars.
I have insurance.
I can afford a car, my bikes are worth alot of money. Im not skint.
I just dont want to be a fatty that pays a stupid amount to go to the gym, to not do much, to then drive back home
Now, if you feel like taking any of this is. The main bit to take in is:
VW POLO BLUE MOTION DOES NOT PAY ROAD TAX AS IT PRODUCES UNDER 35G OF CO2 PER KM. IF A CAR PRODUCES UNDER THIS THEN YOU DO NOT PAY TAX.
Alright?

They still have no option but to be insured

Well, they do. Any car driver does. What proves this is the amount of uninsured drivers on the road.
However, you are right, cyclist can still be uninsured. But it does go to show that the whole tax rubbish that gets bleated about.
I’m sure that it’s a lot more complicated than this, but as I see it the main reason for the reduced rate of taxation for the cars you quote is the ridiculous green guilt felt by the middle classes and propagated by this government. The fact still remains that cyclists ought to contribute by way of taxation, whats your problem whith that, are you just another free loader?
I’m not really bothered in the why’s and hows and who’s of at fault (I reckon both btw ) but:
Why the fudge was he filming his cycle ride?! What would be the point?
I mean ok sometimes I film a nice country road with a good view (suitably mounted camera of course) and If he was on a nice road I’d agree but it was just a standard bit of road near Glasgow somewhere?!
Sorry but I reckon he was out looking for a tussle.
Yeah I think it was just a case of the tanker driver not seeing the cyclist through inattention or the cyclist being in a blind spot on the wagon, probably the mirror or front post rather than an error of judgement.
The cyclist had right of way, end of story, give way to the right, simples. Doesn’t matter if he was going too fast, which he wasn’t or about his positioning on the roundabout or not slowing for the give way which as he could see there was nothing coming from the right, he didn’t have to. He avoided the tanker which if he wasn’t paying attention he would have been on the grille.
The cyclilst did nothing wrong and has as much rights on the road as any other user. Bet he needed to change his pants when he got where he was going. He was filming it so that if some ■■■■ drives in to him in a tanker he might be able to get some compo to pay for his wheelchair.
