A1 Blyth to M18 night time closures from next week

National Highways are planning on resurfacing the A1 in both directions, and implementing night time closures

A1M Tickhill to Wadworth resurfacing

We’re resurfacing the road on A1M between Blyth (J34) to Wadworth (J35) in both directions.

We plan to start work on Monday 15 August and aim to complete October 2022. We’ll be working overnight between 8pm and 6am, Monday to Friday.

To carry out this work safely, the following full closures will be in place between 8pm and 6am:
• A1M northbound between Blyth (J34) and Wadworth (J35) for around 4 weeks.
• A1M southbound between Wadworth (J35) and Blyth (J34) for around 5 weeks.

During all the closures a fully signed diversion will be in place, and this has been agreed in advance with the police and local authority.

Residents of Bawtry will be getting upset. Police and Highways Agency may have an idea for a diversion but that’ll be the one that seasoned drivers will be using just like going Thirsk-Northallerton-Darlington was when Leeming Bar to Scotch Corner was being upgraded to motorway. HA and Police wanted you to go all the way up the A19 to above Middlesborough, take the A689 over to the A1 and come back down which added over an hour. Locals got so fed up at the stream of night trunkers going through Northallerton for months it made the papers and they complained to their local MP.

My question is, if its going to take 2 bloody months why not put 3 or 4 times the men and machines on it and do it in a week max ?

Or shut it for the weekend and do the lot in the 50 hours or so.

If they put more men and machines on fewer jobs it leads to less disruption for all, and cheaper as you would require less muppets to close/block off roads.

Rant over, off to see nursey for more medication.

The fact that the M1 isn’t the default alternative to that closure.
Or even preferable to using the A1, along its length, shows what a basket case that the M1 now is and says more about that.
