Part of the A1 will be closed this weekend as a result of major resurfacing work.
The northbound carriageway will be shut between junction 50 (Leeming Bar) and Catterick North from 8pm on Saturday, November 26, until 6am on Monday, November 27.
During this time, traffic will be directed off the A1 at junction 49 and will re-join at junction 60.
The southbound carriageway will remain open.
The closure is a result of contractors working on behalf of Highways England, who will be laying more than 1,100 tonnes of new road surface as they reconstruct the northbound carriageway.
The £380 million Highways England project, which began in 2014, will replace the existing dual carriageway with a new three lane motorway which will open next year.
Highways England project manager Tom Howard said: “Our contractors will be replacing the existing carriageway with a new road surface which is why it is essential we close this section of the A1.
“We are advising people to plan their journeys, and would like to thank drivers for their patience.
“When the whole project is complete, the section of the A1 between Leeming and Barton will be upgraded to a three-lane motorway, tackling congestion and improving journey times.”
Drivers who intend to travel northbound on the A1 during the closure are being advised to check the latest traffic conditions before they set off.
Clearly signed diversions will be in place and drivers are advised to allow for an extra 30 minutes to their journey time.
Once completed, the A1 Leeming to Barton scheme will create a continuous motorway-standard route between London and Newcastle (including the M1 and A1M). It will also improve journey times and increase safety.
