So, who's had a pay rise then?

peterm:
I got a $5.00 a fortnight rise on my age pension this week, does that make you jealous?

I hope I one day get to see retirement. . . With the way the world seems to be going and the age for retirement going up now and then, makes me wonder if and when and at what age I’ll get to retire. I still got another 40 odd years left in me yet!

Reef:
Technically I’ve had three pay reductions in the last year and a half and all because of the percentage rising of this work place pension contribution thing.

But surely you’ve had a pay rise in that time ?

Geoffo:
Spoke to a mate of mine whose had a pay rise.

He’s now going to be earning £50.000 a year 4 on 4 off days.

Not bad I’m guessing

I think I may have met your mate…is he called Walter by any chance ?

Nope not yet.

Pay rise? Can some one please explain what that means. As I’ve never heard of one

I bet many haulage firms will now go to salaried pay to rip drivers off ,but the same drivers will continue polishing tanks and paying for upgrades on the wonder bosses trucks

Ignoring the clowns of which you speak, which in many cases are one of the reasons a lot of us do not get pay raises. :smiling_imp: (think about it :bulb: )
…I can’t see why some drivers prefer salary, unless of course if it’s some exceptional rate that is.

If you get paid by the hour you know exactly where you are, and you obviously get extra for those longer days.

On salary you can sure as hell bet that most firms will plan you for longer days, get their last drop of blood out of you just to maximise on what they pay…I often have this argument with a mate, asking him why he goes for maxing out when he could get the same rate for 13 hour max days every day, but it’s like talking to a brick wall.
To ensure drivers comply they get the ‘‘percentage of truck earnings bonus’’ dog [zb] quoted to them :unamused: …, although those truck earnings are never revealed to their drivers… :unamused:

To answer your question, from my lot it’s a resounding true to form ‘‘No’’
So not me.

Personally, I quite like being salaried as its 4 on 4 off and I can rely on a set amount being in the bank each week rather than having “bad” weeks where I only worked on 3 days.

Work is set and is always the same and give or take the odd hour here and there if I have a particularly bad tip it’s generally always 9/10 hour shifts.

Doubt I’d fancy it if I was Mon-Fri mind you.

When I first started on General work, when ever a pay rise was mentioned to the Bosss the answer was invariably always the same "I pay the going RHA rates" who predictably tried to keep inline with BRS rates, for fear of losing Drivers. The only difference with most Companies was T&Cs pay rates where the same
RHA / TA handbooks for back loading,or NFC handbook for depot info, NFC was the parent company of BRS

Make that 60 odd years.

No idea if they’re hiring.

Andrew G:-
Nice one. How’s your health BTW??

Not Walter. Might be a Walter that works there too. Who knows.

Everyone who is on PAYE and hasn’t opted out of the workplace pension has had a 1% rise as the employers minimum contribution has risen from 2% to 3%.

Got a 6.1% rise last year so not expecting one this year. Hopefully next year the revocation of the Swedish Derogation of the AWR will kick in and then I’ll be due a 45% rise.

I only get pay rises by moving companies, but then I always hear a month later that the previous company have had a pay rise :unamused:

We have just had a 4.8% rise, but this is for last year as well. The useless union took 14 months to negotiate this.

I feel bad in your nice reply, I was trying to make a reference to Mr Mitty btw…it seems just too good to be true given the saturated cheap driver labour market, it doesn’t make good business sense to pay such high wages on such terms without it being highly specialised/ dangerous compared to the norm. I have a pet peave that some smug drivers like to make other hard working guys feel like dirt by stating they earn so much more for doing nothing…when in fact the reality is different.

Rsg. No malice intended. Yes there’s drivers out there that tell Porky Pies, but I’ve seen my mates wage slips from before the pay rise, so I believe what he’s telling me now.

Similar at our place but ours was only 10 months in the making, think all that interest our companies have made on us !!

A pet peave?..Why even give them a second thought?
It’s just their insecurity about themselves, that makes them lie and boast, just to make them feel (and pretend to be) happy with their sad little lives.
I just enjoy winding these guys up just to see how far they go, until the penny drops, and they finally realise I’m taking the ■■■■.
I only do it out of smugness safe in the knowledge that I’m actually lifting 800 a week for 50 hours, when they are low life and really working for ■■■■ all. :sunglasses:

Newbie started trucking only 5 weeks ago. But when I started was told there will be a review for everyone in April. So fingers crossed. Been in catering all my working life (30+ yrs) and wage rises were very rarely spoken off. You negotiated your salary when you started a job and that would be it for the time you were with that company. So its a novelty to me.

WE got ours in jan

Been at my company now for a couple of years and we seem to get a rise every January , well an increase in the basic rate anyway anything over 48 hours is overtime but that rate hasn’t increased since I’ve been here :unamused:
Sign of the times I guess , so the time and a half overtime rate is being slowly eroded !
The basic rate is still pretty good for the area that’s the only upside tho .

Only rise I’ll get isn’t a pay rise. But the amount we can earn tax free has gone up apparently from 1st April.
So.when tac code changes I’ll be at a guess £5 week better of…so not technically a pay rise but all I ever get
