Greetings,All.
Ref. the lorry in the background,it looks like a Fordson as suggested, and IIRC it was the F7 model. It had the side valve V8 engine of 3.7 litres.I stand to be corrected though.

I wonder if that was the same engine Ford put in the V8 Pilot saloon car. Robert

It most likely would have been , in the early 50s there were a lot of Canadian Fords ( ex army ) around our way lime spreading and they had v8 engines , also ex army road rollers with the same engine . When they were supplying thousands of lorries to the forces it must have made sense to standardise production . Pilots went like stink , so the same engine was logical .

I loved the V8 Pilot. I remember some had a wonderful interior with a Bedford Cord cloth trim. I particularly recall a dark blue one with beige interior. Wonderful! And (for the period) they did go like stink|

When I look at moderns with acres if black plastic inside… And buyers seem to love it. I don´t get it at all.

Hiya
Possible but wasn’t the early Pilot engine (I had one in the 50s) splash
lubricated (later ones had an oil pump) and would the early engines
have been suitable for heavy vehicles, I do know from experience I
had to change an early Pilot engine due to the “splashing paddles”
having snapped off due to over revving the engine when cold due to
the oil in those days being very thick on start up, I did get the info
about the paddles damage being caused by thick oil from a recent
publication of Car Mechanics which was very popular in those days.

Almost certainly the same V8 side-valve engine which powered many Vedette and Simca cars in France, and also Ford-Simca (then Simca) trucks like these two army trucks.

Isn’t Portadown in the Republi of Ireland? Anyway, it looks to me that the text of a British ad’ was replaced by French. If ERF and Leyland trucks were definitely sold in France, I had never heard it about Foden, expecially with what looks like a model of the 1930s ou '40s.

Hi Froggy, Portadown is in County Armagh in Northern Ireland, I used to think that Portadown was in County Down.
Ex BBC Radio 2 presenter Gloria Hunniford is from Portadown. Cheers, Ray.

Two nostalgic scenes…seemed a more peaceful and less hectic life back then…

Removals day…bit different nowadays

To know his story, who was he, what was his life…looks like he either lived or worked in Auxerre in the war years, blacked out lights, gas driven motor…we’ll never know I guess…

What on Earth was initially this one? Certainly an ex-army truck, but wherefrom?

At least do we also know his truck was a charcoal gas powered Renault.

I guess the pictures were taken close to Aubenas, in Ardèche, and the Actros’s registration looks fake to me. Strange that its crane wasn’t removed to be sold.

This one triggered my attention too Paul! If the cab is anything to go by, I would say it’s a German design…?

That Scanny would have made a nice project… the Berliet looks like the one I’ve snapped years ago in Castets, posted it on here too, John made a comment about a proper restaurant near the coast IIRC…

And that Merc belongs there, according to some…
