Nine lorries and if the two on the opposite carriageway are what I think they are, all but two are British made, the Daf could’ve been assembled in Leyland too. All in a livery too, no plain white with a sticker on the door. How times have changed…

Morning Mark,
Yes all liveried up, all British assembled, apart from the Scania, as I think it is a Strato bringing up the rear? They might all have Fuller gearboxes as well? Again apart from the Scania.
It is strange seeing Daveys being overtook as they never used to hang around! Cheer’s Pete

I think you must all be looking at a different photograph to me.

A UK assembled MAN F90 or Merc SK? I don’t think so. I can’t see the tanker on the other side clearly enough, but it seems to be one of Patterson’s, suggesting it’s probably a Volvo either F7 or FL10, although maybe they did have a few DAFs now I think f it. The block motor on the other side in Tarmac colours is a 1635 they had quite a few in the late 80s, maybe the rear cab windows are putting you off but they were a factory option and the top bunk was deleted if specd.

newmercman:
Did you fly Chris ?

No,not as aircrew but went up in Shackletons,Hastings and Argosys when they were on air test or when we were on exercise at RAF Changi Singapore and RAF Scampton. Also flew in a USAF C-133 Cargomaster from Mildenhall to RAF Cottesmore and return, long distance.

Yes you are right, it’s a MAN, I thought it was an 85 Daf for some reason, looking at it again it’s clearly a MAN, it’s even got MAN written on the front in big letters lol, I’m on my way to specsavers right away!.

The Tarmac flat going the other way looks too square for a Merc, I was thinking 401 Seddon Atki and the red unit pulling the tank could be anything, so I took a liberty and assumed it was British built. You say Patterson’s of Batley and an FL, but weren’t they white with red signwrighting?

Sounds more fun than driving a lorry mate.

Thank you for all the comments,

That ERF chinese six was pretty rare in the 80’s from memory Pete.

Nice to see the AWD tarmac tipper. Heres a leyland featured in a Tarmac advert !

Morning Dean,
Bostocks ran some Atkinson Raiders and Searchers at the same time,
Thanks for the Tarmac advert, from a time when all the motors were registered in Wolverhampton and a lot of the bodies were made by A Comer in Bilston, Cheer’s Pete

Unusual to see a Chinese Six nowadays Pete, that one of Corbetts, pulling a drag as well.

Hay & straw dealers, Chris. Chinese six was ideal with the weight of a couple of hay bales over the cab.

Oh aye,I should have thought of that ROF,I suppose it would have been built to a special order, unless it was originally a 4-wheeler or a 3 axled unit.

Morning Chris and ROF,
From my fading memory those ERF’s were a factory build, I think one still survives parked up? Cheer’s Pete

I had thought that Bernard would have kept one in preservation or even in use- he had a few ERFs like that one and they were still up to modern loads and traffic and always kept looking immaculate.

Morning Chris,Dean and ROF,
Thanks for the photo of Lawson’s 88 Dean, I think ROF has gone for a lie down!
I’m sure that Corbett’s still own one of those Chinese 6 ERFs, he is running 8 legger and drag Scanias now, saw one yesterday on the A41at Whitchurch, I’m on the road for a few days so no pics, Cheers Pete
