New KFC delivery partner DHL does not deliver [Merged]

sammym:
I have done deliveries to KFC’s for one class 2 shift. And I will never do it again. I’m not surprised that DHL are struggling - I’d walk out of a job before I subjected myself to that regularly.

None of this was for DHL. But another company who were subcontracting to either them or bidvest. I’ll ignore the truck which didn’t have functional brakes, and that they tried not to pay me.

I’m no animal rights activist - but I defy anyone to go to Moy Park killing plants and feel okay morally about it. They are a disgrace. The worst part was having to drive past the two young girls protesting and wishing I could join them. Food hygiene is another joke - think me with my normal scabby gloves carrying the ‘fresh’ chicken.

The job was backbreaking - a box of chicken weighs upwards of 30kg and you have to lift them by hand - no equipment is provided. At some stores, they will have ‘wheels’ or dollies you can put them on. But generally, it was using the tail lift and then carrying them. Up to 10 to some stores.

Then when you get to the shop generally you are treated like dirt. People think you should be grateful that they open the doors for you in the back. Expect to stand and wait 30 mins for some Asain manager to sign your paperwork. They are on a total power trip. The job is the pants.

What was the need to point out the “Asian” part? What’s all this got to do with race?

DHL, Delivers Hours Late… or not at all in this case lol.

Day (and a) Half Late

Or when it was on the parcels:
Drop Hit (and) Loose it

Now that there’s a shortage at KFCs it stands for

Don’t Have Lunch :grimacing:

The logistics involved in operations like this are incredible, bound to be teething problems,if it’s a change of supplier and there’s no animosity with those that have lost the contract they’ll normally “ramp up” the change over when they start on say 50 stores then increase it week on week til they have all switched over,if it’s not then it’s literaly Bidveat deliver to them all Sunday then DHL Monday which involves a massive amount of work and rarely runs smoothly for the first couple of weeks.

Quite right mate, but regardless of their ethnicity… some managers are complete arses.

Now thats plain biased. Surely youre under-reporting the number of drivers who are arses too?
And some drivers do seem to go out their way to be silly and contrary, so shouldn`t they be recognised for all their efforts as well?

(And to ProudNewbie IMHO youre correct, the ethnicity of any manager is irrelevant, and shouldnt have been mentioned at all)

Franglais stop nit-picking and get back to your Ricard

Rugby is supposedly the problem. They are not sending the product out so other depots can deliver it

Agency have been calling me all weekend trying to get me to travel down there from Yorkshire for silly money, now i know why!

And i thought they needed their top driver on the job :grimacing:

Maybe DHL forgot they needed refrigerated trailers and have run out of those little blue ice blocks and cool bags for all the trucks.

Psst DHL, Morrisons sell bags of ice or just hijack one of the Ice Company trailers which are full of them.

If this is DHL fault that they lost plenty million of pound .Will do this contract without profit to many years.

Had my CV ready to hand in bearing in mind it’s two minutes walk from my front door. Kinda glad I never bothered now lol

Apply for a position in management, mate. Reckon there`ll be a couple of vacancies soon!

Unless he is a managers mate, not a chance, that’s how DHL works

So, the reverberations of this deal have been felt on the other side of the world, having a slot on national news in New Zealand . Closing some 600 shops of your 900 has got the Polynesian element of our little corner of the world, worried out of their collective mind that they might not be able to keep up their Global leading BMI and type 2 dyabetes by a jepodised state by the lack of “crunchy fried chicken”.

I seem to understand from this thread that recently the “logistic” supply chain has been awarded to yet again, the lowest bidder in the market place. Namely DHL. Who on the face of it, have ZB’ed it up Royaly.

At some point, some faceless corparate accountant should realise that these stratagies of going with the lowest tender are simply hurting there own bottom line, you can only cut the fat so much that eventually your into bone. But no, knives are still being sharpend as we speak and the net loss in this case is closing the largest chicken franchise in the world today at a loss running into telephone numbers. Yea, corperate leaders!!!

A wiser man than me, described that ANY civilisation is 24 hours or 3 meals away from revolution. Real change comes about when the general populice cannot get spicy chicken so it would seem.

I was around in Britain when a group of farmers and truck drivers simply parked in front of the gates of a few refineries and brought the country to it’s knees. Seemingly it doesnt take much to get everyones attention, so if your ■■■■■■ off with your lot and want better out of life.
JOIN FORCES AND DONT GIVE THE PUBLIC WHAT THEY WANT. The power is your hand. Or you can continue to cut the man in front of you’s throat and keep praying that there isnt a bigger man with a bigger knife stood behind you.

Today it is chicken, tomorrow it is a living wage.

Get up, Stand up.

Free publicity and everyone is taking about it, when they reopen they will probably sell out

Exactly. KFC come out of it looking good, DHL keep contract so they’re happy too. Whatever bit of money KFC lose will be reaped many fold.

Proof that there’s no such thing as bad publicity.

I was around too, in fact I was actually on the run down to Milford Haven. The “heroes” of that event protesting against high fuel costs soon turned to villains when it was rumoured that Tesco might end up running out of ready meals.

Nowt so fickle as the British public.

Nothing has been mentioned regarding the job loses at Bidvest during this pantomime.

Quote from BBC Article

"The GMB union said it had tried to warn KFC that switching from Bidvest to DHL was a mistake.
The change led to 255 job losses and the closure of a Bidvest depot, said Mick Rix, GMB national officer.

He said: "Bidvest are specialists - a food distribution firm with years of experience. DHL are scratching around for any work they can get, and undercut them.

“KFC are left with hundreds of restaurants closed while DHL try and run the whole operation out of one distribution centre.
Three weeks ago, KFC knew they had made a terrible mistake, but by then it was too late.”

The distribution network uses software developed by the firm Quick Service Logistics (QSL)." :unamused: :unamused:

DHL have run a much bigger contract in Nisa for the last 13 years delivering to 3 times the amount of stores per week than the KFC contract requires.
DHL also have run the Sainsburys operation out of Stoke for the last 10 years which again is considerably bigger than KFC,maybe Mick Rox should of done some research before making his statement.
It’s just teething problems that come with the size of a logistics supplier change overnight,it’ll be running as it should in no time.
As for job losses,■■■■ happens contracts end and for whatever reason tenders are won/lost…bet any money DHL are paying the same if not better than Bidvest in terms of drivers pay so that’ll say more about Bidvest losing the contract than DHL winning it.

I’m reading on the web this morning that the poor blameless sods who work in KFC are being laid off without pay or being asked to use their holidays. A bit strong when these people are only pulling average class 1 drivers rates…

May be it’s you who need to do some research :unamused:
Those are regional distribution centers (RDC’S) this is a completely different set up altogether.

They have to deliver to 900 branches from one single depot in Rugby, the northern most in Elgin, Scotland, and the Southern most in Penzance obliviously DHL have not thought this through.

Bidvest have a numerous depots conveniently located across the country, which means that drivers didn’t have to drive hundreds of miles to deliver to KFC stores across the UK.
