New KFC delivery partner DHL does not deliver [Merged]

DHL have run a much bigger contract in Nisa for the last 13 years delivering to 3 times the amount of stores per week than the KFC contract requires.
DHL also have run the Sainsburys operation out of Stoke for the last 10 years which again is considerably bigger than KFC,maybe Mick Rox should of done some research before making his statement.

May be it’s you who need to do some research :unamused:
Those are regional distribution centers (RDC’S) this is a completely different set up altogether.

They have to deliver to 900 branches from one single depot in Rugby, the northern most in Elgin, Scotland, and the Southern most in Penzance obliviously DHL have not thought this through.

Ignore what the bitter union bloke tells you,DHL are NOT using one depot to serve the whole country they have outbases within other warehouses around the country…FACT.
I know this from someone who has been heavily involved on the DHL side.

I don’t know whether this is true or not, but I can tell you that a statement does not become automatically true simply because a poster writes FACT in uppercase letters after it.

To be fair, they totally screwed up Nisa when they transferred from the former Newport Lane site down to where they are now by the A500 in Stoke and it took them months to get on stream.

As for Sainsbury’s Stoke, we’ll, it’s not regarded as “The worst Sainsbury’s in the country” for nothing (until recently it even had that as its Facebook check in!) it’s a joke of a place, hours and hours of waiting compared to most other Sainsbury’s sites around the U.K. where they have you turned around in a fraction of the time.

Booze up & brewery springs to mind when you mention DHL to me!

What if it wrote it in red and really big letters and added a load of exclamation marks?

And that’s a FACT!

Well not everyone on here believes what they read in the web/in the paper…I’m surprised you felt the need to say it and that’s a FACT! :grimacing:

Going back to the original post…KFC must have wanted to change arrangements for a reason…late deliveries, wrong orders, etc… and i always believe in the FACT !!..If it aint broke…dont try and fix it…so now they have a new delivery system in place…that is not delivering, and causing 600 out of 900 outlets forced to close…FACT…they have staff who are forced to take holidays…when maybe they were saving them for the summer…of which they will have to take unpaid leave…many staff have lost their jobs altogether, not only from the outlets, but the warehouse/transport companies previously holding the contract. I have seen many companies changing their providers over the years, but i have yet to see one who hasnt done it at reduced cost…so i suspect DHL offered their services at a lower price than Bidvest…and its all gone ■■■■ up…because someone hasnt done their homework…otherwise…deliveries would not have been affected in the way it has …FACT !! ■■ …is it or isnt it.

I know one FACT! A mate of mind who used to work for Bidvest in their Taunton depot is now out of work because of this change.

If anyone’s missing their KFC fix, we’ve got lots and lots and lots of trailers plugged in on electric that have returned untipped from Rugby and are waiting for whatever comes next.

200+ jobs lost in Taunton,200+ jobs gained in Rugby…swings and roundabouts.

Landfill…

Or Dogfood.

Or, up until quite recently, Jamies Italian.

DHL WILL have offered their services at a lower price, they are losing contracts left, right and centre. The union guy is right in saying that they are scratching round for ANY work they can get, I know DHL have lost a few big contracts, so any work they can get to keep them going they will.

Something that is exclusively cool. Asain is a word that only the uber cool can relate to/understand.
Most people will simply not understand this word and be utterly dismissive of it, mocking those that are in the know.

Never heard of it H…but i have heard of ASIAN…which means a person from ASIA.

Why must there be something going wrong for them to change? These contracts typically have a fixed length (5 years typically). As the contract comes to its end, potential contractors bid for the business and the client chooses the one they think has the best deal (price will figure heavily, but it certainly won’t be the only deciding factor).

I’ve been driving for the same firm now for almost 10 years, and have seen two changes of contract (and thus have been employed by three different employers - one of them DHL as it happens). Our business is a bit more specialised than KFC (medical supplies/fluids to both hospitals and patients) yet both times the contract changed over, the “teething problems” were nowhere near as extensive as this fiasco. Can you imagine having the majority of hospitals in the country closing down due to non-delivery of essential intravenous fluids etc?

If DHL won the contract because they undercut Bidvest then it’s quite likely that they thought they could run the operation more cheaply by “streamlining” it, and this would almost certainly mean they thought they could do it by either using less labour or cheaper labour, since they will be paying pretty much the same for trucks, diesel, electricity etc.

I could foresee this being good long term for Bidvest as anyone suggesting they moght switch contract in future, they just mention KFC. Cue very worried client a.d keep contract.

As for people losing jobs, were they agency or is this costing bidvest in redundency too?

Not really been a " Winner, winner , chicken dinner " this contract with DHL
