Len sold the Foden to Roy of Patroy transport Sheerness ( he run the transport office for Hays transport Sheerness), I am sorry to say I finished her off on the M2 London bound A249 slip road the very next day after picking her up from Len yard, came up the slip road and indicated to join the slow lane and a lorry coming along in said lane started to move to lane two but failed to see a car up the side of his cab , car hits centre barrier and comes across both lanes hit my o/s front wheel taking out the axle and putting me into the parapet wall. The car ended up in the wall a long way in front of me. The other lorry had no damage as he missed me and the car. The Foden was a right off and Roy made a few bob from the insurance and run no more motors till the end of Hays Sheerness.
I don’t think Dennis Smith knew I had one.

I learnt from a reliable source this evening that Clive Bull who ran CSB out of a yard in Sandwich, died a couple of years ago. I worked for him for about 18 months driving Stralises with tilts, euroliners and box trailers the length and breadth of Europe and even a trip to Morocco. He was a perfectionist but he was a good employer. I am saddened by this news. Robert
Just some more photos

I might be getting mixed up here Robert, but was it Clive Bull that used to trade as GTI - with brown coloured tilts, back in the late 70’s / early 80’s?
Cheers, Keith

You’re probably right Keith. I don’t know what they were called before CSB. I think they did Middle-East at one time and they always had tilts I think. Robert
Wasn’t it Gilman or something like that who had the brown tilts?

You could well be right - but as I recall, Gillman were around during the 90’s, and were from Ashford. The GTI I’m thinking of were a few years before, and from the Canterbury / East Kent area, though I’m not really sure - just my memory playing tricks on me probably.
How it used to be.
Just loaded for Spicers paper Battersea
Covent Garden to Southfleet, empty fruit boxes.

LV Transport, Northfleet, Kent
Two Everard drivers from Greenhithe, Kent on their way to Scotland.
John Downes is one of them, he went on to work for Reed Transport and L.V Transport where he retired.
They used to take a tent and camp beside the A74 swell as other truck roads, where they used to cook their own food instead of sleeping in the Transport houses.
John Downes is sadly no longer with us.
Driver Dave Patrick as seen at Northfleet Carnival with LV lorry, sadly no longer with us.

What fantastic photos. I just love the last one showing the two drivers sitting outside their tent. Definitely epitomises the saying ‘freedom of the open road’.
I found this on Paul Gees thread. This was new to Francis Davis of Faversham and seen later in its life with Mark Farwell. According to DVLA this was taken off the road on 6/8/2004
The late Phil Purdon at Everards Wharf, Greenhithe.
