DVLA has screwed me over. What now?

steviespain:
Just had “the phone call”
They have no record of me passing Class 2 and will not issue it until I can prove that I did.
FFS!!!

So what’s been on your licence since you had it ? .
Have you got the plastic licence now or are you still on the old style paper or brown book

When I passed the test it was in the days before plastic licences, and the HGV licence was a little cardboard booklet with a paper sheet stuck inside. Totally separate to your paper licence.
When I started to get the new style plastic ones my medical had already expired so Cat C would not have appeared on them. Never noticed either way tbh, I was doing other more exciting stuff anyway so I didn´t even think about it.

steviespain:
Well, if I am brutally honest, Sammy, this is about the worst kick in the teeth that I´ve ever had.
Broken bones? Pfft
Gettin 10 bikes stolen over 14 years? Pffft
Women walking out? Pfft, actually that was a GOOD day

On the verge, literally days away, of getting a 42k a year job, down to nothing. Worse than nothing, no job and not even a Class 2 licence any more. That´s a BAD day.

I´m not finished yet though. I´m just gonna have to get me begging bowl out to the family.
Family is full of airline pilots, lawyers, rich widows etc.
I hate asking them but I will, I have to to if I want to move on.

Thanks for the words mate, means alot

Oh mate - I understand your pain. I have suffered some set backs in life. And sometimes I just lost the energy. I’m not going to insult you and say it will be okay.

However if you can borrow the money (it’s not begging it’s a career development loan from someone who cares about you) then I’d ask Peter Smythes if they can offer a dicounted course as you already have experience. I did my class 1 (they do it for class 2 as well) over a weekend and test on monday morning. They even included a hotel room for free. They might be worth a call.

Getting my licence seemed expensive. But within a few weeks even part time it has paid for itself back.

The other thing about driving jobs is… that they come up all the time. Even if it takes a few weeks and that job goes you will get another one soon enough. Remember I got dumped from Hiab driving spectacularly (and fairly) and I’m broken. I told the agency all this… So tomorror I’m getting £19/hour to do some class 1 trunking as I can’t do anything more physical.

Eitherway Stevie. You seem like a top bloke to me. If you come up to Peter Smythes then you have to let me know and I’ll come along and say hello and buy you a beer.

Thanks sammy, my brotherfromanothermother, I like the way you write. I feel all warm and cozy now . When I do get up to Peters place, and I will, I´ll let you know

Right, family is a no go. Thye sem to think I should just go and stack shelves
And I quote:
“Do anything to earn some money”

Next stop, Bank on Monday. Overdraft or loan. See what they say.

One thing occurred to me…I got a driving conviction in the early 80s for having a knackered tyre. Where will that show up, anyone know? That´s proof of me having LGV back then.
I would have thought DVLA would have a record of that, no?

Peter Smythe do interest free loan of a grand with no credit check mate. However you don’t get any discounts if you use that. And you don’t get free accomodation.

Given you have your cpc (they will send card when you pass driving test) that might be worth a look. I’m not sure how much they charge - but you might only be looking at having to rase a 2/3 hundred quid. Just an idea mate.

No idea if they keep records of convictions - my driving points don’t show online as they are too old. But I presume they are kept somewhere. So it might be worth looking into that.

For what it’s worth I think you are worth more than shelf stacking. And a class 2 licence is a very secure way of garanteeing you can always earn £100 plus a day. You will find a way mate.

Did any current trading company copy your licence when you had the lost categories on it

ROG, I don´t believe I´v ever had Cat C on the plastic OR the paper licence. Before all the categories were amalgamated onto one licence it was a separate cardboard booklet thing for HGV.
And it´s so long ago that I actually worked as HGV that all the firms are either extinct and/or the guys I knew are all dead. Not kiddin
I´m currently trying to dig up the dirt on this old driving conviction of mine, knackered wheel on a skip wagon, that has got to be proof of me having a licence back in the day.

Sammy, I sent a reply to your PM, but it´s just sat in me Outbox and I dunno how to send it on it´s way. Or mebbe you DID get it, I dunno.
ANyways. Yes, that´d be great and AWESOME, carry on soldier. I get my Driving licence and tacho next week and I have my CPC already.

It was cool man, I was in the Artillery when all we had was bows and arrows
And I´m still alive, they ain´t

Heheh I got a shock when I saw sammys pic on Facebook, there´s no way someone that young should be driving a truck. Fisher Price yes, truck no.
Just kiddin sammy

If you been driving by law they must copy your licence then they should have checked as well also never give anything to DVLA before copying it

A few years ago my brother in law had his licence stolen contacted DVLA said they never had copy of him passing car ( he has only had 4 addresses in life now in his 50’s ) he had lost his licence so this was a replacement but due to brake in & the tidy up found it contacted DVLA again give number etc nope no record called in to police they looked at licence yep it looks genuine when they checked no record

This was only a few months after his mother had received a letter from DVLA for her husband to renew his licence ( age ) only he had beed dead for nearly 30 years she did inform them at the time when on the phone he did say this to them so asked for the letter to which he replied no will send you a copy

He thought he was going to have to do his test again but eventually this was sorted they had mixed him up with another ( Paul Smith ) but did take several months

When I had problems with DVLA medical section many years ago he to be a little economical

Get a copy of military service records:

Get a copy of military records of service: Overview - GOV.UK

Thank you, working on it now

That wont show your driving entilments :frowning:

EDIT scrap that, it will, but in my case didn’t match my DL, i;ll upload an image shortly after editing all personally details.

As going that route, unless you have your records, will take some time, I applied for mine in 2010, got a copy in 2014, and a copy of medical records in 2015

■■■■, that´s a long time. I´ll probably be dead by then.

Yeah, animal, DVLA have a history of “losing” entitlements. in the 3 years after 2008 they lost 48 LGV record, and a shed load of others too, bikes cars, PCVs. A total of 125 went missing in that period.
Their stance was that among all the millions of other licences this small number weren´t worth bothering about.

Update:
Well, after faffing around for a few days, head down into the computer, trying to find out who to contact etc. It seems that the PDF (linked to above) is the way to get hold of me army records. It may take a bit of time, up to 4 months, but I´ll get em.
So, while reading that PDF I came a cross an email address on page 3…
Army Personnel Centre, Disclosures 2, Mail point 535, Kentigern House, 65 Brown Street,
Glasgow, G2 8EX
apc-sp-disclosures2@mod.uk

Banged an email out to them and got a reply saying send us a photo of your driving licence (this is just for ID purposes, nothing to do with driving or quals.
So, I did.

We can tell you what qualifications you gained whilst serving but it is unlikely there will be any certificates.

Well, it´s another avenue to explore anyway.
And it will take a long time, by the time I get an answer/result, I will have probably retaken Cat C anyway. I wonder if DVLA will reimburse me? No, me neither.

On the plus side, I was talking to my sis the other day and she was saying
“Just get a job, any job, earn some money, stack shelves, work in a kitchen, whatever.”

I thought about that for a while…about 10 seconds…then changed the subject.

Next day I said to her…
“Your law licence has been taken away from you because the Law Society has no record of you passing the tests.
But it´s ok you can still work as a secretary or something, you´ll still be earning money”

2 days later she offered to lend me the money to go for my Cat C again.
I LOVE my sister.

So you have no old driving licence, anywhere to show what your entitled to drive. I may be wrong, but if you have your driver number, that is connected to everthing.

That won’t help.

DVLA are saying they have no computerised records of his Cat C so his driver number isn’t showing entitlement. That’s why they asked for older paper version then no dispute as they issued it then

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yep, they are not saying they’ve ‘lost’ them, they’re saying that they don’t exist, and if they don’t exist then I didn’t pass the test. ■■■■■■■■
I thought that all my info was attached to my driver number, as well, but no apparently not.
Because I passed the test before the info was amalgamated all onto a plastic licence it must have been different.

Developments…

neuon2003 makes one, just ONE, post in 11 years and he gives me a link to a PDF doc which tells you how to get a copy of your qualifications gained while serving. What a effin star! Thanks man

Emailed.
Waiting…

Meanwhile…I´ve been talking to a good friend on FB who does CE work. He pointed me towards 4-5 FB pages for agency work. He introduced me, told em the problem, said I had a 7.5t licence, and the phone has not stopped ringing.
Currently waiting for confirmation of a start on Monday for either plant hire delivery or bread company. Both temp to perm. I quite like the plant hire idea, I like getting dirty.
But…■■■■, I´m not even jacked up with PPE or satnav yet!
So all is not lost.

Aaaaand back to the email…
Got a letter, yep proper letter, from Army Personnel Centre, Glasgow.
And I quote

After a thorough search of our records I can confirm that no driving certificates are held

Ahhh FFS! I thought, what a ■■■■■
And then I read on…

Please see below the qualifications recorded

Specialist Qualifications
DRIVER HEAVY GOODS VEHICLE CLASS 2 (INCLUDES 2A, 3, 3A)
EFFECTIVE DATE 17-DEC-1976

And this is signed by a real person, stamped, dated, mast headed, reference numbered up to the eyeballs.

Well, I opened and read this on a train, in rush hour, this morning. I let out a WooooHOOO! Amazing how Londoners can ignore even the most bizarre behaviour  Although the 9:30 to Epping Forest only had about 3 people on it I was expecting a severe glance, at least

So, gonna photocopy this sucka and send it off tomorrow, see whappen. I am NOT sure it will win the day as it is not a certificate, but hey, it´s the Army, no?

this is not the end, this not even the beginning of the end…but it´s a start.

Well done on getting that official info

Thanks ROG.
Check back in a minute, I´ll post it up …

EDIT: Nope, that was all blurry.
Better one further down the thread.
