This Leyland Atlantean No. 163 was one of the first Atlanteans to enter
the fleet of Wigan Corporation in 1969. The Leyland is seen here going
up Market Street in Wigan town centre on route 21 to Kitt Green.
The bodywork is by Northern Counties at Enfield Street, just 2 miles away.
The halfcab Leyland PD2 at the rear is one of several new to the Wigan
fleet between 1966 and 1967.

Wigan Corporation Leyland PD1 No. 34 is seen at Station Road in Wigan on route 10
to Worsley Mesnes. I think this picture will be from the late 1950s or early 1960s.
At the rear is the ABC Cinema, formerly “The Ritz”, I cant make out the name of the
film that is being shown, but some film buffs will recognise the names of Leslie Carron
and Mel Ferrer. The Vauxhall on the left has a “Company Of Veteran Motorists” badge.
I passed my PSV Driving Test on Leyland 34 in October 1966.

The film seems to be Lili which was released in the states in 1953 so possibly 1955 ?.

Good day out at the Kirby Stephen / Brough Easter rally today so a couple of photo’s of some of the bus’s on show and running between the two towns, ride’s were very popular and a good turnout.

P1010305.JPG

I had a ride on this Huddersfield Daimler CVG6LX on Saturday from Brough to Kirkby Stephen West Station which was driven hard especially approaching the steep hill at Wharton Hall lane end up to the station but in typical 6LX style it tackled the hill effortlessly romping up the hill in third gear, unlike many other buses I have ridden on during past Easter rallies at Kirkby Stephen where the drivers hung on too long in higher gears before changing down and loosing momentum or missed a gear altogether. The Ribble Tiger Cub saloon 452 I drove once or twice when working for Ribble at Carlisle in 1964 also a sister of the Harrington Cavalier bodied Leyland Leopard on express runs to Glasgow.
Cheers, Leyland 600.

Liverpool Corporation acquired a large number of AEC Regent buses in 1949.
AEC A747 was one of many that had body framework by Weymann, and the
rest of the bodywork completed at the Corporation`s Edge Lane Works and
depot. They had a large number of skilled coachbuilders from the pre-war
days when they built their own trams This bus on route 77A from Hunts Cross
to Lime Street in Liverpool city centre has the later cream paint work around
the windows, so it must be in the early 1960s.

Picture I found in an old box, not sure if this is of interest.

Dave, here’s your box put the right side up; first.

And now, I’ve just discovered that Belgian MOL, best known as a heavy haulage specialist, also produced buses! This one is powered by a 2-stroke GM V8 and an Allison automatic gearbox. It certainly produced a nice scream when accelerating!

Thank you, Is there a section on the forum which has guide on how to rotate and possibly resize pictures.

Thanks Dave.

Small article from 1964. (click on page twice.)

MOL Eagle Bus. Is that the same company that built Eagles for Continental Trailways in the US

There will be a bus routes recreation day, tomorrow Sunday 28 April, based on East Grinstead town centre. This will feature London Transport, Maidstone & District, East Kent, Brighton & Hove and other operators’ buses from the 1950s through to the 1970s. This is normally a very popular event with local families.

I don’t think so. Here’s a free and simple software you can use to rotate, resize and retouch your pictures. Best size is 800 x 600. I think the first version 7.0 should be enough for you:

Not the same company, but I guess MOL must have used an Eagle license to produce their buses.

Thanks Paul…

This bus is a Leyland Tiger Cub, of which I understand was one of only 2 built.
Its bodywork is by DAB, a company that I am not familiar with. I am informed
that Jim Stones of Leigh in Lancashire bought both of them. Jim Stones buses
are always turned out in immaculate condition, a credit to the company.

Ribble Leyland Leopard 619 is seen at the Ribble depot in Chorley, Lancashire.
