I need to spend more time on this forum as it seems most drivers on here get top money for few hours [emoji849]

You can tell the liars, they like to tell everyone how much they’re on for how little work they do when no one has asked.

They’re the same ones that are on better money than everyone else in the waiting room, no matter what you say they’re better.

Liars always get found out one way or another, I’ll admit I’m not on top brass and I don’t drive a brand new lorry either, but I am treated as a human and not a number! A bit of respect goes along way I think…

Personally my pay looks good if you ignore the long hours, but I get to see the country and am happy doing the job.

Getting back to the OP, yes shorter houred contracts do exist in this country, but you are more likely to find shorter hours for decent, not fantastic, pay, on own account operators.

Zero hours suits me…last week booked 68 hours n one rest day, paid, actually worked 10 hours total £1423 top line,am I a liar? Lol plus £120 for food

Yes… Im on a Guaranteed 40 hours over 7 days… and there’s room for overtime if you want it. Basic is pretty crap mind but im semi retired so not particularly looking to slog my nuts off for the coin.

I was on a 39 hour contract when I worked for Wisemans.

Mind you the money was cack unless you got some overtime in and worked unsociable days/hours for the premiums.

The 40-45 hour week for top pay & good shifts is a utopia many drivers seem to spend much time chasing and never find it. Every driving job comes with a compromise or two.

The best way to potentially reach utopia is to take a good job, do a good job, bide your time and wait for that opportunity to get on the hours that suit you best. Most drivers though seem to want it all from day 1.

Yup, can’t see the need to invest some time and hard work on the wrong shift to get their feet under the table.

And too many who find the dogs danglers of jobs can’t help themselves taking the ■■■■ out of it in short order, sick notes, damage, can’t look after the equipment, more excuses than you could shake a stick at to avoid actually doing some work, then seem surprised when it all goes belly up.
Then they’ll be back here moaning about how hard done by they were :unamused:

But then every cloud has a silver lining, because the more of that sort that turn up makes the genuine people’s jobs ever safer :sunglasses:

At 12 hours per shift, 4 on 4 off works out at 42 hours per week on average over a year. Get on with the right firm and work nights, and the pay can easily take you into the low £30k’s.

We’re on 40 hour weeks minus breaks and still on a good wage, paid for any hours over 40. For this reason the long servers seem to stay on local runs. I prefer to go further and get overtime.

Fixed hour contracts are generally found on own account, the best jobs rarely have the best hourly rates they are nearly always unionized resulting in enhanced overtime rates and enhancements for nights weekends and bank holidays.

The issue is the dullard who thinks £13 or a fixed salary beats everything else, the days of good pay in the for profit sector are long gone unless you are specialised or extremely lucky, the best jobs need to worked at although this is never a problem as these places are generally staffed by those who moan groan and are unable to perform even the most basic tasks without constant supervision.

For me my current role is driving nirvana 42.5 hrs if I complete my hours in 4 days I can choose not to come in, easy work, hours when you want them everything paid for I could work in the same area for more money but that would mean working somewhere where people know what they are doing (management included) and with drivers who don’t constantly pi$$ and moan and wreck everything, in a word I’m to old to start working for a living.

Do they exist in this industry?

Srs question.

I’m on 40 hours.
Overtime thereafter at time + third.
Paid breaks.
Start at silly o’clock and get a premium on top.
Not massive amounts like some but it keeps the bailiffs away.

I’m on a 37 hour contract and I usually do around 45 hours a week

I am on a 40 hour week contract Monday to Friday plus guaranteed 8 hours overtime at time and a half if I work it or not. Take home around £435 per week. Class 2 general haulage with no nights out.
