With sat navs and Google maps I haven’t used a map in a few years and i notice my memory has gone from having a very good memory to now having a very bad memory
I suppose part of it is not useing it as much as before if you were travelling long distance your time on the boat would be taken up studying maps and writing down junctions numbers and once you went there once it was always in your head, now not so much maybe because your not noticing your surroundings as much because your listening to a sat nav or Google maps

Many a session but that would be a lot of years ago there was always a good chance you would meet someone who had been before

Don’t worry it will come to you at some stage im sure there are a lot of people who know what the post means
theres a LOT of tosh spoken about memory loss these days and you might not remember things you saw an hour ago .But dont let that fool you, if something really important happens like you looked over and on the pavement was a man collapsed youll remember him and what he had on hours or weeks or years later .
I know exactly what the O.P. means. I remember things of little importance from forty years ago. Cant remember where I was last week.
I remember something on the radio about this, but I forget if it was any good…

standard practice for anything other than dover calais.

You are right, I’ve seen me use a sat nav for say the last few miles to places I’ve maybe been to once or twice, because I know I ain’t going to come up against a bridge or something, so never checked the map.
Then if another driver asks me directions later on for same place, I can’t remember the exact route.
It must be worse for those who rely totally on sat navs. 
Thankfully mine is ■■■■■ too, so by the time Iv read an entire thread Iv forgotten most of the posts, which is a blessing in disguise as if I’d remembered the specifics of said post by the likes of Rowley & arse snakey boy I’d be telling them what ■■■■■ half wits they are…
Look on the bright side. At least you can hide your own Easter eggs.
